Giants released Plaxico Burress

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Giants released Plaxico Burress

Post by SkinsSince96 »

Giants released Plaxico Burress.

Giants GM Jerry Reese: "We hung in there as long as we could in hopes that there could be a resolution other than the one made today." The result isn't surprising. Speaking on NFL Network, Giants play-by-play man Bob Papa thought Burress' latest legal delay was not the deciding factor. He reports that Burress did not show the Giants he was willing to change his behavior. It couldn't hurt that Burress was filing a grievance against the team and was facing likely jail time and a league suspension. That will probably keep Burress out of the league in 2009. Domenik Hixon, Steve Smith, and Mario Manningham will all step up their playing time.

Another big name WR hits the open market. The legal problems will be a big concern for any team that wants him though.

I wonder if the Giants are going to trade for a WR now? Hopefully they dont get Boldin.

Who would of thought when Burress caught the GW TD for the Giants vs the Pats last year in the Super Bowl that he would be released a little more than one year later.

Another fine talent that went to waste. That guy left millions of dollars on the table, because of his behavior.

he left a lot of money on the table because he wanted a fresh start... not because of his behavior.

Plaxico Burress-WR-Giants Apr. 3 - 8:27 pm et

Plaxico Burress reportedly turned down an offer from the Giants that would have allowed him the opportunity to earn all of the money left on his deal.
Burress had four years left on his deal, and the Giants offered him a chance to earn a total of $29.5 million in salary and bonuses in the form of a new contract. Plax obviously wanted to get out of New York pretty badly if he turned down the Giants' offer when they were going out of their way to accommodate him.
Source: Newark Star-Ledger

What exactly was his "behavior" anyway? He's not only a high status athlete with a superbowl ring... he's 6'5'' in a club. He's a target.

Yes, it showed bad judgment to have a gun tucked into his sweatpants... but why are people so paranoid about guns? I have 8 guns... what's so wrong with a guy carrying a gun? I don't see how justice is served by giving Plax any jail time... probation seems more appropriate. IMO he should play every game of 2009.

He has had firearm issues in Fl.

Bad judgment is a under statement, if you can't pull out a gun without shooting yourself you shouldn't be allowed to have it anywhere, let alone in a nightclub (which is against the law even for those that can handle what the are carrying)

Burress didnt have a permit to carry the gun in New York either. It was a Florida permit that was expired.

Burress knew that he would do jail time if he was ever caught carrying a gun in NY - I repeat, he knew what he was doing! Burress was told this before the season because he asked if the permit from Florida would 'cover' him carrying a gun in NY and he was told the facts are that if you do that you will have to spend time in jail - that is the way the law is in NY

Now, I'm not against him playing every game in 2009 but I also want him to be treated like anyone else who abuses the law and I hope he has a nice time in jail because I understand it is not a nice place to be
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Your behavior: legal.

Plaxico's behavior: Illegal and mind-blowingly stupid.

Sounds like to me he's got some off field anger issues. I would like his talent on the team, but not with all of this. I would have wanted to take him if the NYC club charge was isolated, but I don't know if I want that kinda character here in DC b/c his off field antics can affect his ability to dress on Sundays.
...any given Sunday....

Off field anger? What? I agree he has some mental issues but I really don't think its anger.

I actually think if anything, he's insecure about his identity. I mean, he went into a club with a piece like he was some thug gangsta....and then shoots himself...the ultimate embarrassment for that type of image.

I can't help to think the guy learned his lesson from that...too bad it had to be the hard way and it may be harder if he does jail time...but the judge should just laugh at his ass and send him out..he's done enough to punish himself as it is.
