Looks like a solid move. I also remember back in 2006 when we played the Jags that Leftwich was a Skins fan growing up in the DC area. He tore us up in that game.
He also tore us up last year when Big Ben left the game with a injury in the Steeler game.
Byron Leftwich paid a visit to the Washington Redskins Friday and the two sides are talking about a contract.
Leftwich does not yet have an offer from the Steelers, where he was the backup quarterback last season after an injury to Charlie Batch in the preseason.

I agree thats what I think also.
I wouldnt be shocked though if we trade Campbell for a 2nd round pick and draft Sanchez now.
I do think if the Skins do that its a slap in the face to Campbell who they just sat down and had a meeting with.
I wouldnt put it past Snyder though.

I really hope this does not set into motion a chain of events that flows a little like this:
sign leftwich
cambell traded for pick
#13 and that pick move us up to get Sanchez
release collins in camp
go into season with our qb's as
Leftwich
Sanchez
Brennan
and we have not addressed SLB, LDE, or OT until the third round
I am afraid this is the thought process, but hoping it is not

I really hope not. Im also afraid of this and it wouldnt shock me at all if it happened.

Leftwich, 29, worked out for the club and is seen solely as a possible younger and cheaper replacement to veteran No. 2 QB, Todd Collins, 37. The Redskins informed Leftwich that he would not be competing with Jason Campbell during their meeting with him, according to NFL sources, and made it clear that if signed, he would be there to play only if Campbell was injured or was ineffective during a start.

this is a good upate to that news
I very much welcome that fact that if true this puts to rest the scenario outlined before....back to drafting "best player at OT, DE, OLB" (not best player available)
I could see us trading Campbell for a pick and still getting a good OT

This scenario would be fine if the pick we trade Campbell for is a late first round pick that could be used to get Oher. I think we'll get Sanchez at #13 because of his inexperience and Oher could be had at #16 or #17.
At any rate, the move to get Leftwich is worth huge support. I still think the guy can be a star in the NFL. I also think he's better than any QB we have now. except maybe Collins. Pleases send your protests of this opinion to my agent.

what happened to the love for Campbell as our QB and how good a QB he was going to be this year and for the near future?
As CLL pointed out - the writing is on the wall here as far as Campbell's future is concerned - he might be here for this year but if we get any decent offers for him he's out of here.
I do not think this FO thinks as much of Collins as some here (coughRaycough) and are looking at a possible backup but I wonder if it is not a better idea to look to our future QB with next year's crop - we really need a future HOF at RT or a future HOF DE with that 13th pick.
Vinny understands and he better produce. I really hope Snyder is looking to add draft picks here because, in my opinion, he can trade almost anyone on this team if he can pick up a couple of second round picks this year
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I cannot believe that anyone except maybe you and maybe Leftwich's agent would think that
and now we have another guy jumping on and off the QB carousel - what makes you think you can get a first round pick for Campbell - a QB that you have been totally trashing here is suddenly going to get us a first round pick
I would be happy if we can get a second round pick for this guy - he's a good QB but he's not considered a very good QB and is certainly not getting us a first round pick.
I'm sorry but the word is out now that we do not think Campbell is going to get it done here
I also do not think they are bringing in Leftwich to be any more than a back-up - IMO I would rather give Brennan the ball than Leftwich - we are a couple of years away from having a great offense again and Leftwich is not going to survive very long behind a line like we had last year.

Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

Id be shocked if Oher lasted to 16 or 17. Alot of mocks have him slipping but I dont see it. I honestly dont see any of the top 4 OT getting past 13 and all of them might be gone after the top 10.

Two teams that were originally expected to take tackles, probably won't now...Jacksonville (as they signed Tra Thomas), and San Francisco (as they signed Marvel Smith). That clears up the OT logjam a bit.

If a team sees a franchise OT on the board they take them. Tra Thomas is a stopgap that doesnt mean Jacksonville wont take a OT. Marvel Smith is a solid tackle but im still not positive that they wouldnt take a OT if someone like Oher or Andre Smith is there at 10. I see what your saying but theres plenty of teams that would take tackles between 1-15.

yeah collins sucks!!!!!!!!! see ya.....i love some leftwitch...dude competes and is not afraid to rip it down the field......
I think the Haynesworth deal is actually going to benefit our OFFENSE the most....more short field situations, turnovers and the like and this team will get alot more scoring opportunities.......That'l make soup look better and should he go down i feel lots better with leftwitch running the show then tired old huge vet min contract 6 start Todd collins
With a QB lineup of JC, BL, and CB we will have to draft OLine. JC and BL are practically carbon copies of each other. I'm not sure I understand this signing since Snyderrato tried to trade JC and BL takes the same time, if not longer, to release the ball. It is an obvious indication Collins is gone. No problem with this. I would take Byron any day over Collins. I also think this is an indication JC will not be traded and a QB will not be drafted. Why would you draft a QB with no experience, trade JC for an additional pick, and then have Leftwich, a similar player to JC, start? Makes no sense. 2009 QB lineup: JC, Leftwich, and Colt. We will draft best available OT, LB.
dad23hogjrs wrote:this would crowd the qb depth chart.
one of 3 things if he gets signed
we plan on moving JC we plan on releasing collins we plan on releasing colt because zorn thinks he has no future
I would have to go with releasing Collins.. he's going to be 38 in November and was really only on the team because he knew Al Saunders' offense.
Releasing Collins to pick up Leftwich would be a good move. We should give JC at least 8 games next year to see if he is the answer at QB. 4 QB's would be too much and releasing Brennan would be stupid because I think he at least has potential to be good.

Todd Collins sucks??? I wouldnt go that far. I agree Leftwich would be a upgrade but id show some respect for a QB who led us to the playoffs in 2007. The only knock id put on Collins is that hes 37 years old.
