Draftees that have been caught...

NFLDraftBible.com reports that Florida WR Percy Harvin, Illinois CB Vontae Davis, and UTEP K Jose Martinez all tested positive for marijuana at February's Combine. Also BJ Raji was already said to have tested positive early yesterday.

The website also claims that USC OLBs Brian Cushing and Clay Matthews tested positive for steroids. Information like this is sometimes circulated by teams in hopes players' stocks will fall and no other reputable sources have picked up the reports to this point, so take this cautiously. Harvin, Raji, Davis, Matthews, and Cushing are all projected first-round picks.

What a bunch of idiots. How can you take the chance of a lifetime and get high right before your combine workout? The steroids thing is surprising. It really didn't affect Luis Castillo's stock.

If they tested positive in February, which was overa a month ago, wouldn't it have come out by now? Are there other sources verifying this? One article does not make it all true.

exactly - let the kids do what they want - they fully uinderstand the meaning of living in a free country - it's not like it's going to affect their ability to play :wink:

to my knowledge, nobody has actually proved that the use of steroids or pot has any side effects - duh!

we of course do not know the full story here but if a kid with the talent to play in the NFL decides to use pot and take a chance on a future with the NFL then he should be allowed to do that - we all have seen countless cases of kids being told the ramifications of their decisions regarding drug use - it makes you wonder why a team would pay someone millions of dollars when they are so stupid that they cannot just say no to drugs?

I will say that if the kids did in fact do this despite what they knew then they will hopefully enjoy watching this great game - not going to happen of course because we really will not hold them back from pursuing their destiny :roll:

it could be said that the 'stupid' ones really are the other guys that could have taken steroids and drugs to both improve their ability and also have a good time but chose not to :wink:

I'm not sure if you meant this to be funny, but the side effects of steroid use are well documented in peer-reviewed medical literature, despite what body builders or steroid sellers may wish you to believe.

I am not anti kids doing anything like drugs or steroids - i'm just a little mystified as to what is really wrong with getting caught for doing something that most kids try - and why even test them if there is no real punishment?

I have nothing against them doing it at all and especially as there really is no punishment per se except perhaps in the area of their potential draft position which could affect their contract - but hey, I'll bet they might even continue to do it later too :lol:

The NFL has released a statement emphasizing that none of the 32 teams has or even the league office have been informed of the drug test results from the Combine.

Thank you. This was just a dumb thing to do. Everyone got on Andre Smith for screwing up the biggest job interview of his life and what these guys did was like smoking pot before the biggest interview of their life. This could cost them millions of dollars. Just stupid.

Its not that NFL teams care that these players did it in college, the teams dont want to draft somebody that did it recently and is gonna be smoking weed during the off season instead of staying in shape or doing something constructive. They don't want to pay someone millions of dollars who might get caught for possession of marijuana or get suspended for a positive drug test.

We all know that these kids know that they are going to be tested - now we also know that they know that if they are tested and the test is positive that it is likely to cost them millions of dollars - why would you risk that opportunity after all you have done. why?

after we have that answer we can get into the character issues but not until that question is fully explained.

After all you have done to put yourself in a position to attain financial security for everyone who has helped you along the way - why?

The NFL hasnt released the test results from the combine so as far as we know right now its all false.

I have no clue why players take these risks though. I remember the Skins back in 2001 were thinking about taking Fred Smoot with there first rd pick. Reports arose that Smoot had done weed. We still ended up getting him but in the 2nd rd.

I think it hurts some players more than others. Castillo for the Chargers was popped for roids and actually went higher than most people thought on draft day going in the 1st round.

Honestly any player who risks a chance at the millions that comes with being drafted high is a idiot.

that is all I'm saying - look at what Burress did - now here's a guy that admitted he just kept screwing up :shock:

- apparently last year alone he was fined for being late 100 times - now that is just stupid - the fines obviously did not work and in the end he probably cost his team big time - in my opinion the Giants made an even bigger mistake by keeping him after all that and it finally bit them.

any team that brings in a player that is a risk deserves what they get - we only have 5 picks and cannot afford any "idiots" - let them go to the good teams :twisted:

any kid that risks everything because he thinks he's "worth the risk" and nobody can make him stop because he's 'special' - deserves to not play in the NFL - I know that will not happen but it should :wink:

Well I know for sure that Raji has been proven because NFLN announced that he failed the drug test and he admitted to doing it but as for the others I guess its still alleged.

The whole MJ thing is getting really stupid...and I'm talking about the testing for it. Really, no one cares if an athlete smokes MJ nowadays except the Cigarette companies who made MJ illegal in the first place.

If its steroids or other banned performance enhancing drugs I understand the stink that needs to be made of it, but MJ? Give me an effing break. And I'm not a pothead btw...just so you think I'm being defensive about it for that reason.

That's what people said about Randy Moss...he was an idiot, but fell into the right situation with the pats. Burress shot himself and if he gets any stupider he's going to be dead. I say he's worth the risk. I think he's learned his lesson.

SI.com has now removed its report about Boston College DT B.J. Raji's alleged failed drug test.

The league hasn't released its list of players that tested positive for drugs or steroids at the Scouting Combine and Raji could still be on it, but for now at least SI.com's Tony Pauline is looking like a false rumor monger.

The difference is that we KNOW what Smith did. The other players are only ACCUSED by unreliable sources.

Actually, one of the reasons that football players in college smoke weed (instead of drinking like most college kids do) is because it doesn't affect their bodies the way that beer and liquor do.
