D-Mac on WHFS

Post by ii7-V7 »

D-Mac called into the Sports Junkies this AM. I missed the first part but it didn't seem like there were talking football then anyway.

He was asked primarily about the differences between Spurrier's and Gibb's style/practices etc., and then about the differences between P-Ram and Brunell.

When asked about Gibbs v.s. Spurrier D-Mac said that Gibb's was more of a teacher, where as Spurrier expected you to know the playbook. He also hinted that Gibb's playbook was more complicated. D-Mac wasn't going to bash Spurrier even though the DJ's did left and right. He aslo called Gibb's the teams, "Zen Budhist Guru."

When asked about the difference between Brunell and Ramsey D-Mac basically said that the only way that he could tell them apart was by the way the ball curved. He said that Brunell had the Veteran Experience and that Ramsey had the rifle arm. He also hyped up Tim Hassleback. D-Mac seemed to insinuate that Hassleback even stood a shot as the starter, to which the Junkies just laughed. Then D-mac said, "I feel good no matter who is back there." D-Mac was at the park when he called at 7:30am. He was getting ready to go lift weights and then he was going to passing camp.

interesting about hassleback. after the second mini-camp, gibbs said he was surprised by some of the performances of players who you wouldn't expect to start. i read in a report that hassleback was the best qb of the three in that last mini-camp (washington post i think). of course, patrick is just getting healthy, and bruenell has nothing to prove.

but hassleback impressed me last year - the way he came in and jumped right on the field without the benifit of camps, practices and so on. what a gamer.

who knows? it's a mega long shot, but maybe hassleback can compete for the starting role? i doubt it. but it's a clean slate with gibbs.

I hear ya' . . . but, I'd have given you the same odds that Gibbs would never coach in the NFL again, much less the Skins.

Who knows. Everybody loves an underdog and the 2nd string QB. Remember Babe Laughenberg (sp?) - he looked like a starter in camp too every year. We'll have to fire up this debate - just for fun - when camp starts and we can see all three guys on the field.

At least we have three legit qb's this year!

ha! true. i thought hasselback did a fine job last year as a starter considering the circumstances (steve spurrier). though i would definitely rate him # 3 behind brunell and ramsey, i would still feel comfortable with him behind center.

I don't care what Dmac or anyone else says about Hassleback. He screwed up that Dallas game way to much for me to want him on this team. He's gotta do something extremely extroadinary in training camp and/or preseason games for me to forgive and forget.

I understand he was under Coach Spurrier. But under Spurrier he put up very good numbers against Miami at Miami. IT WAS HIS FIRST REAL GAME TOO!!!!! It wasn't anything like three or four plays he ran against Dallas. It was three quarters if I'm not mistaken. He also threw well against the Giants at the meadowlands under bad weather. So I have a hard time blaming Spurrier for the way his quarterback threw in that Dallas game.

If you all like that guy Hassleback then more power to you. I just can't see how anyone can screw up a game that bad after being so good.

Ramsey was certainly hoping for a quick recovery from surgery since Hasselbeck did so well.

Tim-ay has more mobility than patrick, and, really, neither QB has proven himself yet so the backup role is up for grabs. Of course, it may come down to money; you can't have a high priced third stringer.
Back and better than ever!

I live north of Baltimore, so all I ever hear on the radio or TV is about the Ravens. This show is the only show I get that ever talks about the Redskins. Still, they aren't really much of a sport show, its your typical shock-jock radio with a smattering of sports. But when the season rolls around they do a fair job of representing the skins. I was listening to them when I heard about Joe Gibbs' return.

I'm very sorry to hear that. Living in Annapolis, we're really on the fringe but tend to get more Baltimore stuff (the worst is when I hear someone say "we" with reference to the Ravens, I have to roll down the window and spit). But I've also noticed that coverage of football here tends to be a little more dependent on who is doing better, since there are so many bandwagon fans this far south of Baltimore and this far west of DC.

Needless to say, I expect burgundy and gold to come out a lot more in the next few years. . .
