Lions, Jaguars, 49ers get new uniforms for 2009 season

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Lions, Jaguars, 49ers get new uniforms for 2009 season

Post by Jake »

New Lions uniforms, logo coming out soon?

by Tom Kowalski
Tuesday March 10, 2009, 9:00 AM

The Detroit Lions have been very secretive about their plans for the draft and free agency, but they're being just as coy about their plans to change the team uniforms and logo.

However, veteran defensive tackle Grady Jackson, during a radio interview Monday night, let something out of the bag.

Jackson, who recently signed as a free agent and probably didn't realize the Lions wanted to keep their new uniforms and logo a secret for awhile, made a comment about how he liked the Lions' new look, including a remark that he liked the "new colors.'' This morning, I contacted a Lions official who wouldn't say a word about the possibility of new uniforms or logo but it appears unlikely the team would change its colors.

Meanwhile, the Lions' official online store is having a blowout sale to clear out all of their remaining gear with the old logo. Some items are marked down 80 percent. With the old stuff gone, the Lions are going to need to stock those empty shelves with new merchandise. The question now is: How soon will they unveil it?

The Lions have a news conference scheduled for this afternoon with coach Jim Schwartz, but I was told it has nothing to do with the uniforms and logo.

Yes, yes, post the "Hello Kitty" and Cowardly Lion pictures here. lol

This seems legit, though. Grady Jackson slipped and said he liked the new colors. There was a fan contest and here is the winner's drawing:

More like Oiler blue, actually. I would have accepted Charger blue, as well. :P

I know the Lions suck, but it's sad to see a team that's had the same look for so long finally change.

More teams should keep their classic colors to avoid the atrocious uniforms out there like the Titans, Ravens and such.

While I agree that the classic looks keep tradition alive; I understand why the Lions are doing it, they don't want to keep their recent tradition of losing alive. They're trying to change their culture completely and they may or may not succeed, but you've got to respect their efforts. A uniform change doesn't have much to do with performance, but evidently in their minds a complete overhaul, including their uniforms, was needed.

That logo aint gon score points... They should have kept the tradition, this is disgusting.

If this works, maybe we should follow suit and see if a new logo makes our offense better.

I've been thinking about that very thing in a roundabout way. I wonder what Obama's position on our name and logo would be?
Smart money? He considers it racist, and it's probably racist that I think so.

I agree with changing the uniform.

You have to start change somewhere. All though I do not like the new design they came up with. They have to start changing. If that start is with the uniform then fine.

Well, if you know anything about the history of our name and logo, they are obviously not racist.

Agreed. Hopefully, our Commander-In-Chief sees things the same way.

Couldn't hurt. And, maybe they might just win a game this year. I agree about the Buccaneers comment. What did they do for most of their History wearing Dreamsicle colors?? Not a whole hell of a lot. And while they are at it. Change their name. LOL.
