I'm a bit more optimstic about it. We still have our draft, 2nd tier FA, and JC & JZ in their 2nd year together. No need to be a downer quite yet.

I'm with you on this vet. I'm not saying I'm "for" it exactly, but it seems like the best teams that win SB's have monster D's and with our great D last year and this directly addressing the biggest hole it could be all that much better at stuffing the other team's O's. With a year together the hurdle for our O's improvement we would need would be lower.

On the other hand, with Hall unsigned and Springs aging I'm concerned about the secondary and if our O doesn't improve at all even a better D then last year's #4 can't win games. It's a roll of the dice.

Hall is signed bro. I believe that this addresses what we needed on D this year to put us over the top. This is SHORT TERM assessment. We can't assess long term until we see what repurcussions result for Hall and AH big $$$ signing.

WOW just way too much money for one player and with a team that has a history of underachieving FA's. So much for the..."Danny has learned". Is he banking on a uncapped season?? I hope he knows more than we do...This move will limit our ability to sign our own guy shild they have some success...Campbell will be in a contract year and if Kelly and Thomas pan out like some here think they will...
When will Snyder learn????

Unfortunately your right about the $$$$ man, but I think Hall has proven himself a good DB since he came here (obviously better IMO than Los & Smoot), AH I'm gonna have to take a wait & see approach but I hope the big dude continues what he did from the titans.

All we can do my people is just continue to be good fans

I understand that the Redskins have some very talented cap guys in the FO. We've never not been able to sign a big-name FA that we wanted.

But where we HAVE suffered because of big signings is getting quality depth. I've said all along that the biggest downside to Haynesworth isn't his price; it's that he's likely to be sitting on the sidelines quite a bit next year (and the year after, and the year after).

I'm not too worried about out depth on the D-line, since last year's starters now become our backups. But I am worried about quality depth for our offense. What happens when one or two offensive linemen are hurt? What happens when Moss goes down?

I agree with Warmother's reaction earlier in the thread:
Warmother wrote:Well I think it's to much money, but all we can do now is hope for the best. I hope Haynesworth stay's healthy and earns every dime.

OK, I didn't want this deal to happen. All I can do now, though, is hope for the best. And the best with Haynesworth could be pretty awesome.

We need to address LB as well..I'm sure its being looked at for the draft...with Big Al in the middle we need ballhawk LB's. Rock cannot be depended on..Fletch is aging and MW is gone

That's a fair concern. But if you look at the roster, there is some o-line depth. If they select a starting OT in the draft, Jansen and Heyer are still decent depth at OT. They have a few younger guys at OG, including Rinehart, Devon Clark and Will Montgomery, who does have playing experience. Perhaps quality of depth at OG is arguable, but at least there is some depth.

I agree with you about the risks if Moss goes down. As of now, Moss, ARE, Thomas and Kelly are our only legit WR's. We still may need another WR anyway, and a value guy like Bobby Engram might be brought in, if he's affordable, of course.

I'm not so worried about our receiving corps depth as I am our o-line starters. I realize it's the beginning of FA and off-season, but we've pursued and shored up our strong point from last year. Now, let's see what's in store for the offense.

Yep, I kept reading and saw that, then got stuck on a WORK call, yuck!

I'm glad to see that we have Hall though, like you said this addresses what we need on D. Springs has been a good Skin, but with the salary and that we just can't count on him and now with Hall on board it's certainly time to move him. I'd love him to stay for backup money, but obviously can't count on that. Man, the O has to get a LITTLE better though.

Now that we have spent YANKEE money on our DEf that leaves us to draft the Best OL with the 13th pick. A. Smith could slip to 13 if not him it will be Oher. The only other position that we need to fill is OLB.

I still see LB as our lowest priority. There wasn't a glaring hole there, but a need. I wouldn't be upset if we used this whole draft on o-lineman.

I think that LB is a pretty big need. As of right now we have no starting OLB to replace Washington. Blades did an admirable job in that role in limited duty but he doesn't have the coverage skills to play there full time. Also, Rocky was very inconsistent last season. Oline is obviously a much much bigger concern, but something needs to be done about our linebackers as well.

HAIL TO THE REDSKINS HAIL VICTORY BRAVES ON THE WARPATH FIGHT FOR OLD D.C.!!!

I'm extatic we got Hall too not just cause he gets int's but because now I don't have to read all the whiners going "we should've used the money on hall"

Sometimes this board borders on TheComplainers.Net, now you'll hear me complain about lots of things but getting a STUD DT won't be one of them.

IF Haynesworth and Griffin absorb bodies like we hope, we could prolly promote someone already on the squad. They'll make guys look better and allow them to play better.

Well Haynesworth is a Redskin now. Just hope he earns every penny. The cap will be managed that is the for the front office to worry about. We also got Hall. Now we need to patch up the O line and get us an OLB.

I am not sold on this deal and quite frankly it worries me. I think its just too much money for a player that isn't a quarterback. Again, we win the offseason superbowl, but will we be any better than last year? I sure hope so. Its just disappointing that the FO cannot take tips from the other good teams and build the team the right way. Snyder needs to go.

It's a done deal, so no need to cry over spilt milk now. Embrace it b/c it's the only thing we can do. Hope for hte best, expect the worst, and you'll fall somewhere in the middle.

Well a lot of people didnt want this to happen but its happened now so we better root for him to do good. I think he will. This defense will be great if he can stay healthy with Griffin/Daniels in the middle.

for anyone saying that haynesworth is a waste of money, and that we already have the #4 ranked defense... here are my two points...

1. how many of those games in the second half of the season did we lose when our #4 ranked defense couldn't stop the run and teams like dallas, and pitt, and baltimore, etc... ran the ball down our throats chewing up the whole forth quarter and keeping our offense from attempting to win the game.

2. every teams offense looks a hell of alot better when they start on the opponents 18 yard line. we forced no turnovers and never had a short field to work with. we had zero defensive TD's. NFL QB's are too good to have time to throw. they don't make mistakes when they have all day. this signing has such a trickle down effect. first, haynesworth will require all sorts of attention... so jason taylor and a.carter will be THAT much better. that means more pressure on QB's which leads to more bad passes... now out DB's look better cause it is alot easier to cover when QB's are just chucking it up to save their life. now, the short field makes our offense look better. i mean, this was a huge sigining IMO.

Vinny just said in a live on-air interview on the NFLN that they did include a "work-out" clause in his contract so that he keeps himself in the best shape possible to limit potential injuries.

I think CLL already mentioned it, but I don't think LB is as much of a need now as it was before this signing. AH will take so much physical pounding off our LB's and free them up to roam w/o having to shed blockers so often. I do think we could use a LB but I'm just of the mindset it's not a huge importance, atleast not before o-line that is.
