IMHO he hasn't proven himself worthy just yet. He has yet to complete an entire season which isn't entirely his fault. Last season he got injured which I blame on him, mostly. I believe he deserves most of the blame because he lacks any sort of pocket presence and holds onto the ball too long. At the start of the season the blocking was pretty pathetic but it improved. Eventually Ramsey was taking all those shots due to his ability to feel "danger". Ramsey does not side step or anything, he just stands there. I don't know if its him or if was something to do with Spurrier systems that had him scared to move. I like Ramsey I believe he has potential but I don't know if he's starter quality yet. Everything that Ramsey lacks Brunell has except for youth. Don't get me wrong I hope Ramsey picks up the slack and becomes the starter, he's a great guy.

Ramsey had to stand there, Spurrier would just call another pass play so he might as well find the open receiver..

I don't think Joe will give it to either one of them, and so if Brunell outperforms Patrick and gets the nod... all it means is that we are rock solid at QB. And vice versa.

I've seen Patrick run -- it ain't pretty. But I hope that his seemingly quicksand feet were more a result of pop Warner blocking schemes... and post concussion syndrome :hmm:

How long do any of you think Brunnell has left in his tank.

1. If he gets good protection

2. If he gets killed like Ramsey did last year

How long will any QB last if they get killed like ramsey did last year? Even a 25-year old kid couldn't hold up to the rigor.

But is it really all that relevant?

The clown show left town with SOS, and anyone who doesn't know that the Redskins blocking issues were scheme-related, doesn't know diddly. 5 guys just can't block 8, and a FB should never be left to block an all-pro DE by himself. That most definitely will not be a problem with the Gibbs' offense.

How long can Brunell last? Who knows... Rich Gannon wasn't a pro bowler until he was what? 36? I think Brunell has about 3-4 years of decent football left in him... and more importantly, 1-2 years of that will be STRICTLY mentoring and backing up the stud tough guy gunslinger that they call Ramsey.

Hey, if it doesn't work out, we'll grab a baseball player masquerading as a football player, I hear they're able to chuck passes in 15mph winds with no pads on...

ROTFALMAO

I like Brunell. But I truly think the Redskins OWE it to Ramsey to at least give him a fair chance to compete for the starting job. He took it for the team last season.

Both QBs should get a fair shake and the best guy is our starter come September.

Also, I think Ramsey's contract escalates depending on how much he starts, so we have financial incentive to start Brunell if all else is equal.

... but do we have to get completely outclassed too? Cause if so, that extra game doesn't seem to mean all that much.

I guess we're digressing a little, sorry folks.

As I said, I'd like to see Brunell hang around for 3-4 years because that's what I think he can be efeective for. If Ramsey beats him out and all of them are as the backup then so be it, but it's no skin off my nose if Brunell EARNS the gig and plays for 2004 and maybe even some of 2005...

I think both QBs will be very capable of leading this team and I don't think many teams can TRULY say that. There will not be much to choose between them and that sort of competition alone should improve both of their performances.

I´m going with Ramsey, with Gibbs on board Ramsey could be one of the best QB´s in the league in this season, there´s a huge difference between Gibbs and Spurrier, let´s don´t forget Ramsey threw for 14 td´s in 10 or 11 games under Spurrier, the redskins need to take advantage with his potential.
Remember back in the 1990 season, Troy Aikman with the cowboys in his second season was one win away from leading the team into the playoffs after a 1-15 season, a year later they went to the divisional playoffs and then 3 superbowl rings.
I mention this because I think Ramsey has greater talent than Aikman had, Aikman was so succesful because he started in his first season in which he also had e.smith and m.irvin, the redskins have c.portis and l.coles, I really didn´t like the signing of Brunell, GO THE RAM AND BEAT BRUNELL.

no it was spurriors system not enough blockers i agree with boss hog the scheme was not working in the nfl. ramsey should have to compete but if he is better or the same he should get thenod regardless of the brunell price tag

I think that we should count ourselves lucky to be having this argument considering where we were last season.

Honestly - having two starting quality QBs on the team is great. I think if PRam doesn't wise up, he will get whupped by the much more experienced Brunell and will lose the job. If PRam learns to read faster, throw easier on the short routes and dump the ball then he may just beat Brunell and will win the job. Either way folks, we win :)

Of course - we could go back to the Shuler/Frerotte era ::grin::

we don't owe any player a starting job. this is the nfl and the best player gets the job. bet that gibbs will chose on merit. i just have a hunch that brunell will be hungry to show what he can do.

Gibbs knows what he's doing. He will start the guy that he feels is the best option to getting us some wins. I trust him a lot.
