Maybe Haynesworth can play OL for us to and protect the QB...but who needs to repair a depleated OL when we can get a "stud" DL for 15-16 million a year.

Guys, I know it's tough not to mention the Haynesworth rumor, but this thread is about Angelo Crowell, so let's try to stay on topic. It just makes it difficult and confusing for everyone when Haynesworth is being discussed in multiple threads.

Thanks and just a friendly reminder.

You're quite right so who is Crowell, I have heard of him? Any info

My brother is a die hard Buffalo fan who cried when we signed Fletcher. All the games I have seen Crowell in he is a very good OLB. Buffalo let him go as kind of an "FU" because he waited until preseason to get surgery done. Also the same reason they put him on IR. I think he would work out well in replacing Marcus Washington

What in the world are you talking about?? Landry is a safety and Haynesworth is a 300-plus DT. That is a stupid comparison.

If we had a run stuffer on the DL we would'nt be counting on Landry to bring down Jacobs at full steam, thats the point.

If you're 'relying' on a safety to stop the RB, you have many problems.

Gibbs4life, I thought with all your posts to this forum, you were supposed to be an expert?

Angelo Crowell was drafted in 03 or 04. I followed him when he played at UVA. He was Germane Crowell's brother (WR at UVA). A very solid LB who is a tackling machine, but after starting for 2 years at strong-side for the Bills, he spent all of 2008 on IR. He could step right in at Marcus W. vacated spot. Oh, but that's right, not only will we not have enough money to sign Crowell or any other free agent, but we will have to release 3 or 4 players to make room for "never played a full season" Haynesworth for 15MIL. Smart move Danny!

If we do indeed sign him to the mega dollars required, our (already top heavy) team will get worse. Our defense, which is already the strength of our team, may get better. But it wasn't our defense losing games last year. So do you think Haynesworth is good enough to keep all of our opponents below 12 points a game this year? Because our offense will not be better with only 4 picks in the draft and an offensive line that will be even older and more fragile than last year. But hey, just listen to Gibbs4life. Because he posts more than most of the rest of us, he has somehow become an expert in these matters. So in a year or two, when we're worse than we are now and we can't dump Haynesworth because of a bloated contract, we'll revisit this thread and see what Gibbs4 life has to defend his "expertise".

Which would you rather have, Haynesworth minus Springs, J. Taylor and Doughty

OR

Crowell, Stacy Andrews + Springs, Taylor and Doughty? They would cost roughly the same thing.

OR

Crowell, Andrews, Clabo, Shaun Cody minus Springs, Taylor and Doughty?

Hmm, improve youth and depth on O-line, LB and D-line? or sign Haynesworth?

Landry learned his lesson last year about running at Jacobs. If anyone is stopping BJ, it's Horton.

Landry still made that tackle. And I still don't think Landry's going to shy away from a tackle. Just tackle Jacobs smarter next time.

Derek Brooks is 36.

Takeo Spikes is 32 and has had a few serious injuries in his 11th year. Too many miles on both IMO.

I'd absolutely rather have Haynesworth than Crowell, Andrews, Springs, Taylor, and Doughty.

Crowell is coming off an injury. I like Springs a lot but he's hurt way too much. I want no part of Taylor or Doughty, anyway.

Haynesworth was the best defensive player in the NFL last season. I'm not saying he's worth $100M but I'd certainly rather have him than that cluster of mediocrity you just mentioned. If we signed Haynesworth and drafted Orakpo, we could actually (gulp) have a good defensive line for the first time in what? A decade?

You also need to figure that 1 playmaker sucks up the salary of 5 mediocre players, you're going to have 4 subpar replacements of the previously mediocre talent.

Fair enough. If it weren't for the money, I'd be inclined to agree with you. But maybe I should have added, "Haynesworth and no other free agents for the next 3 years OR Crowell, Andrews, Clabo and some wiggle room next year and the year after." See, we've already pushed aging player contracts into the future (Jansen, ARE, Carter, Samuels, Griffin) so that they have guaranteed money. Add Haynesworth to that and you basically put the team in a straight jacket. Plus, Haynesworth has never played more than 13 games, never played more than 2/3 of the defensive snaps, has off the field problems, and when is the last time a seemingly undisciplined 330# guy took 100mil and came into camp in good shape ready to work hard. Are you kidding me? He'll be 20 pounds overweight and taking even more plays off than usual! BAd, bad, bad deal, in every way, the money, the player, the effect it would have on the team, the future of the team, bad, bad, bad deal.

Winning the NFC Easta doesn't really matter. Ask the Giants and the Cowboys how that worked for them.
