Chris Samuels..
Is supposed to make $6.025M at the end of the season is that too much for someone we were going to trade?

If Chris comes on to be a premier LT, most teams in the league make that a very well paid position.
Secondly, I wouldn't put too much stock in the idea that we were going to trade him. I know most of the ideas that floated up before the draft were rather silly, and were debated (at least by myself) as a way to pass the ever slower moving clock waiting for the draft...
Most of the trade talks before the draft, other than Trotter were smoke screens and positioning talk to see what we could stir up on the trade day.
Like I said - if Samuels can do what we know he is capable of, he will be a stud under Buges... otherwise, he gets cut or traded next year when the cap hit actually allows us to save more than we lose.
At this juncture, with the accelerated signing bonus, we would lose money rather than gain any.

We are NOT trading Samuels. And you posted a reason that we won't... because of his salary. He's not restructuring this year because when he improves this year, he will want to be paid like one of the best tackles in the league. This is his contract year, so he'll get a lot of suitors in the FA market if he ever gets there. Search all posts regarding Chris Samuels in April and you will read all about this stuff.
P.S. Remember Jon Jansen's contract year in 2002? He didn't make it as a FA because we locked him up with a nice contract that December. I predict (hope) that this will happen with Chris.

Whoops. Was corrected and now realize that this year is not Chris' contract year. Nevertheless, he will improve greatly with Bugel leading the way. No questions asked.

Jake, are you a little biased here ? Can you objectively step back and say, "Hey. This guy is so good, he could've blocked for Donnie Warren." ?
Naw, you can't...No more than I can accept anybody saying that Monk wasn't all that.
Hey, BTW...Great Interview with Tydus Winans. I have his rookie card.
He's another off the field success story that will never be featured in a "Where Are They Now" on FOX, simply because he didn't smoke crack or kill anybody. It's a shame, and you did him up nicely. Looking forward to your next work.

Thanks for the congrats on the interview with Tydus. Tydus is a great person and has is very happy without football.
Also TC, yes I am biased!
I would say that Chris is so good, that he would have to have Donnie, he's that good! Sorry DEHog.

Williams, I'm more than sure, had his say in the war room. In the end, they were content to give the picks to Joe Bugel.
I think you'll see a fairly active team after the last week of this month. We're gonna get the help you're sure we need, and try them out.
Who knows for sure who will be cut, right ?
Have some faith, man.
Oh, and Jake ? The pleasure is all mine. Keep honing your craft. There's a gift there that not everybody has. Take it from an old writer, for whatever its worth.

You got that right! Man, I could have played under Spurrier's regime. Everyone acted like 16 year olds under him.

Chris knows this is his year to step up, and I think he will. If (or, should I say 'when', Jake) he does, he'll be ready to sit down and negotiate a contract that will pay him what he's worth.
I really think that last year was an aberration for Samuels, and his first three years were more reflective of what he can do in this league.
If he DOESN'T step up this year, and logs two mediocre years in a row at LT, I won't be surprised to see the Redskins cut and run from his contract--especially if the 'new blood' gels under Bugel.
Bottom line-- Samuels will earn his pay this year, and be with the 'Skins long-term.

I'm sure most of you are probably NOT gonna like the point I bring up, but it falls in line to what I always say about our boy, #56. He and CS were drafted 2 & 3 overall, no? Both have "struggled" recently (okay, poor coaching -- at least in CS's case [remember, LA SWORE by our last D coordinator after Marvin rolled out on us]), correct?. Perhaps that draft class was not as strong (DO NOT READ AS "NOT AS GOOD") for the Skins as originally thought. If CS (and LA, for that matter) struggles again this year, I'll be the first to jump on the Molinaro bandwagon that bumps CS outta town. He (CS) IS geting paid too much moeny for porr production.
Now, from that draft class, who is doing better than our "studs"? (I'll let you draft buffs chew on that one)

Back and better than ever!

Well injuries have prevented Courtney Brown from doing too, too much in Cleveland, so he hasn't been much of a success story. He did actually take consecutive pay cuts to stay with the team also, so that bears mentioning... not restructures... pay cuts... but the #1 pick certainly hasn't enjoyed the accolades that his PSU counterpart LA has.
Of that class... I can think of a few guys that have been good players to date...
Brian Urlacher, Shaun Alexander, Jamal Lewis, Julian Peterson, Corey Simon, Shaun Ellis, John Abraham, Darren Howard.
People use so many ways to define 'successful' that it'd be hard to say who's been 'more successful' than Samuels and Arrington have...
I think that the first 4 names on that list have certainly been as successful though...
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

I would have to say most of those names have been successful - I can't see any that haven't performed.
I still say the schemes and the lack of discipline - remember that Lewis was still under Spurrier, and I don't imagine that did much for Lewis' ability to control what went on in the defense. If Lewis went to Spurrier for a problem child, for example, he probably got poo pooed....
Think about Bruce Smith and his whining - true he went to the owner - but Spurrier could have backed up Edwards and told Smith to sit down and shut up and asked the owner to not interfere.
Who knows how much beeyatching was going on with LA being down in the three point stance or other problems that Lewis didn't get help on.

Yeah, it's unfortunate Marvin didn't have a good time here. I remember George Michael asking him on the news how he liked Washington (the organization), and he said "It's no Utopia".
I'm glad he moved on to better things.
I think CS and LA have done a lot to becomes household names in the NFL (marketability, popularity), but they have yet to really lead their team to victory. In fairness, it is a game played by more than 2 people, and coaching nees to be top priority. Good thing we've addressed THAT issue well this year, huh.
