You know, if they're gonna screw with my hair, the least they can do is get my address right and give me the last name of McLovin.

I already knew. When I applied for a license in NC, there was a guy in NY State, where I haven't lived since 1995, with the same birthday and last name as me and my middle name as his first name. To get a license in NC I had to prove I wasn't him. They did NOTHING, I had to prove I wasn't him. It was a real pain. They advised me to keep the documentation forever since I'll probably have it every time I move to a different state, and I've lived in 8 states over the last 16 years. I hate government.

What are the chances? I'm still not sure I believe it's a different person.

Yep, been through that.
My ID expired. Not my license (because I can't get one, being legally blind and all) my freakin' ID expired.
My bank refused to cash my paycheck. So, I went to the DMV to "renew" my ID. They wouldn't accept my old ID (as it was a pre-9/11 ID), so I gathered up my birth certificate, social security card and had my dad drive me back down to the DMV.
They still wouldn't accept it. I misplaced my high school diploma, and knew I couldn't get another without (you guessed it) some form of ID.
I called up a friend of mine with the police department (because a criminal background check is accepted) but even he couldn't give me a copy without my ID.
Now if I had had a green card, or passport, it would've been no problem, but I was born here, and had never left the country, so I had no passport. Funny how it would be easier to get an ID if I were a foreign terrorist, but not so much if I was born and raised here!
My friend with the police actually suggested I go and get a fake one made from the hispanic guys down in old town (jokingly of course)!
I finally had to solicit my high school records (which were nothing more than an attendance history, with no real identifiers like social security number or anything) from a lady who was nice enough to "forgive" the fact that I had no ID.
I can understand why a driver's license expires, you should be looked at every so often if you are going to be driving a 2,000 pound vehicle on the highways and byways, but why, other than to be a pain in the rectum, does an ID EVER expire?
I mean, it's not like the people at my bank didn't know me, it's not like the Cop I was dealing with (who is a sworn officer) couldn't say "yes, he is who he says he is."
It's not like they (at the DMV) couldn't have taken my dad's info (compared it to his name on the birth certificate) and said, "y'know, maybe this guy is telling the truth."
No, they needed to see my attendance records from high school (which were HANDWRITTEN by the way) in order for me to ultimately prove I was who I said I was.
And after all that, they still got my picture wrong in the database!
Jerks!

No, OK, that's funny. As someone else said I just looked at the topic. There really is a national license database and my story was true. I'm denying I look like a baboon, and since you can't see me on the Internet, that's called "plausible deniability."
