^Thank You. All I was trying to point out was that at the link I provided it was already broken down as to what we might do and what we might have to play with.

As far as the price to keep or let go it's in the link Dancing Bear provided:

http://www.thewarpath.net/WarpathRedskinsCap.htm

click on release fee at the bottom and it shows what 2009 will cost to keep and what it will cost to release.

Agreed. Some think I would argue anything with anyone. Here is an example. Argue cap with 1nik? Pass...

No doubt.

1niksder, glad you're back. We missed ya! Thanks much.

That link seemed to confuse DB a little. Which is why I only posted the bottom line. I think I answered his question whit my last post, still confused on the $18M though.

..Okay, I finally figured it out. i was including salary and/or roster bonus money in trying to calculate cap hits or dead money, and those don't count. Thanks to all who cleared this up for me. I was not trying to argue with anyone, just trying to get a handle on it. Based on what I am seeing, and HOPEFULLY understanding this whole salary cap, release fees etc, I would do the following:
Release:
Springs- Save $6M
MWashington-Save $4.5M
Griffin-$3.1M

Do Not re-sign
JTaylor, projected '09 salary at $8.5M

..and finally, do something with Randle El's ugly contract.

I just wanted to make sure you understood what you were looking at. I think you've got it. If you have any questions feel free to ask them my contact info is on the cap page on the main site, or you can post it in a thread. We are here to help - Though we don't mind a good debate every now and then

Have you all seen the Redskins Insider....lol:

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redski ... insinsider

I like that a lot of the people are saying lets just call it what it is Rebuilding and blow this thing up and get younger. lol.

I could only see this happening if they let all the high priced people who they can let go, go. Then look to recent graduates of a college who were not picked up for cheap, look to the CFL for cheap players, or put out an all call to this years non drafted rookies...come one come all....we need OL/DL. Of course on the cheap.

They won't be that drastic but with no cap in 2010 it the perfect time to "pay the piper" for past sins.

Just letting these guys go:
Carter, Andre
Daniels, Phillip
Griffin, Cornelius
Jansen, Jon
Randle-El, Antwaan
Springs, Shawn
Taylor, Jason
Thrash, James
Washington, Marcus
Collins, Todd

Would add $27,641,731 in dead cap but the same players currently take up $53,457,000 in 2009 cap money so the would actually save the team $25,815,269 in cap space this year. As of today the dead cap is $6,718,009

The only guy I'd keep off of that list, 1nik, is Andre Carter. Marcus Washington is another, but he is very quickly going the route of Cornelius Griffin; still, I'd like to see him get one more year.

I would LOVE to see the Skins cut the rest of those guys. Talk about trimming the fat. One or two would cause me some nostalgic sadness, though (Jansen, Thrash).

Carter will more than likely be around another year because cutting him would add $226,000 to the cap but MW is a slowly being replaced, he missed 4-5 games this year and Blades finnished the year with more tackles. Not to mention the $4,500,583 in cap space he'd free up

27,641,731 in dead cap  Wow that's over 20% of the cap...but we'd be in good shape for 2010 if they do have a cap.

I don't have a problem with Carter. He worked his butt off every year. I have issues with the ones that are injured every year, still get paid, and refuse to take a pay cut. I find it funny how Taylor mentioned he should be taking a pay cut or giving some back due to his lack of production but let the team try to bring him back for less and supposedly he would rather try the free agent market to see what he could get or possibly go to a warmer place? Taylor's an idiot.

Springs and Jansen need to go. unfortunatly both will probably cost to much to let go. Since Springs is good for about 8 games of each season then I would pick 8 games I had to have him for and bench him for the others.

I just can't wait for 2010. I'm truly tired of hearing how we are in CAP hell every year. If next year is truly the last CAP year I'll take another 8-8 so long as the team takes major steps in getting younger when the CAP goes bye bye.

Carter is not a bad player, but he's not a tide turner without help. If we pick up a stud DT, I can guarantee you his stats will improve.
...any given Sunday....

A DT will be as much help as getting someone to play the other End position, preferably someone that won't be moving from DE to OLB or playing on the left on some plays and the right on others. Even better would be a every down DE to play opposite him that would be available EVERY down.

I totally agree, but we have limited money and if we pick up a good DT, we have serviceable players in Wilson, Buzbee, Jackson that can play over there. We don't have 1 DT that I can say "he's a threat." We get get a threat at DT and our ends become a lot better.

In your example, I DO miss a healthy Daniels. He fit perfectly on the strong side.

The problem is that there aren't really any "threat" DTs available in free agency outside of Haynesworth. This draft class, outside of a few top talents like BJ Raji, is also pretty weak at DT.

Hey, I just heard a rumor that there's no cap in 2010...

was that harsh?

Jeremy, don't be like that. It's not personal, what he wrote. What he's saying is, it's been a very hot topic for a while. The NFL opted out of the CBA in '08. There is no provision for 2010, so at this time...it's possible that there will be no cap that year. Most believe that it will get worked out as soon as Upshaw's replacement is named and gets settled. Others, like Kevin Mawae, who is the President of the NFLPA, say there will be no new Executive Director named until after the new CBA is in place...which will benefit players with 6 or more years as far as being free agents.
It's very complicated, and more than 'niks can get into without starting all over again from the beginning.
It took the loss of a brother for me to realize that we, as members of the Hogs.net family, can't nitpick on each other too much. You never know- you may be talking to somebody who's just had the worst day of their life and they're here to get away from it all...like I did when I lost a child.
Look around with the search feature, J. You'll find everything you need to know, and you'll have fresh questions...and 'niks will have the answers for you.

SOMETHING MAGICAL IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!"
