So, after we develop one of our OWN draft picks, a top ten draft pick for that matter, and right after he's matured and been coached up in the system to the point that he's had his best season to date, an excellent season mind you... now you want to trade him????

 Yet these very same people who are suggesting this trade are the very same ones who endlessly bash Snyder and Cerrato for not building through the draft and developing their own players. Brilliant.

I am on record as thinking that we will have Hall, Rogers and Landry playing with us this season.

I am also hoping that Landry will develop into the type of leader of our defense that he is capable of - this is a "player" and IMHO a future great player for our team.

We might see some interest in Rogers but I would be very surprised if anyone will be able to get him away from us.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I'm not as worried about his inability to catch as his ability to get burnt. We had another corner that had paddles for hands and still managed to be a HOF corner, Mr. Green of course. Green was an excellent cover corner that as far as I remember hardly ever got beat deep. Rogers on the other hand gets beat and can't catch. Don't get me wrong Rogers isn't a bad corner just because he get's beat every now and then, I'm just saying he won't be missed for a second rounder.

The biggest downside to getting rid of Rogers, in my mind, is that we'll have to use $9 million in cap space for Springs next year, plus we'll need his replacement for half of the season, in addition to Roger's replacement. That's two new CBs we'll need, that much less cap space, with only a 2nd round pick to show for it. :|

Well if this makes things a little clearer, Modells in Annapolis is selling Rogers, Jansen, and Marcus Washington jerseys for $20 while the other Skins jerseys are now 25% off ($60).

Usually that's an indication of things to come.

I was on the trade a pick for Rodgers boat myself. Thank God for these blogs because they've taught me that's a bad move. We got CR for another year on contract and he's not that bad of a player. If he leaves after next year then we could possibly get a draft pick for him regardless from what I've read. Anyone with more draft knowledge feel free to chime in it you know something that I don't.

If Hall doesn't bite then we're down a guy. Carlos should stay. The real question is over Springs or Hall. Besides if we need picks then Moss would make the most sense. We get more than one pick for him and it wouldn't bite us as hard with the cap. We've got a lot of depth on WR even though it isn't that good. If you just want to win next year and not build the team this wouldn't make sense. If you want more picks for this year and next and want a youth movement it does.

IMO the Skins would be best served if they cut Washington and brought him back on the cheap as a back-up. We could do this with a few players. That's a win win for everybody. We have veteran depth with younger guys taking snaps.

Hall may be too expensive and so would Springs. We could release Springs or get him to restructure his contract. Win win again for us. We free up cap room and if they don't return so be it. I'm not sold on Hall either way but I do know he'll be expensive. He does want to play here and that's a good thing for us and him. We'll get the most from him if he does stay and he's young. If he doesn't we didn't spend a lot of money that we could've used to get two other reliable FAs without the big name. Dansby might be too expensive now and I'm not sold on Haynesworth either. There are other reliable guys that wouldn't be too expensive and buy us some time until we can draft some quality players.

The Skins could do this with a couple of players like Jansen. Heyer didn't prove he could do it but that still leaves us with a gaping hole at RT. Taylor will probably be released simply because of Cap. If we do sign Hall then Taylor will probably be gone.

Green was the NFL's fastest man in his 30s ('91 being his last year) and was still running 4.2 40m in his late 30s. The fact that he could catch anyone from behind (called "catch-up speed" by some) in his late 30s help this.

To compare Rogers to Green is like comparing Spaghettios to Olive Garden. It just ain't right.

Since we're talking about Rogers and possible changes in the secondary, I hope Landry really improves next season... he's just not yet become a play maker.

With Springs, and Hall as corners we need Landry to really step up and make some plays.

Green didn't have bad hands. Where are you getting that from? He had at least one INT every season of his career, except the last one.

I got that from watching the games, and I remember the guys in the booth were always talking about it. He was a great corner that was going to be around the ball if it was thrown to his side, so he is bound to catch one every now and then. So that stat isn't a very good example.

I also watched the games, and don't remember announcers ever talking about it, not that announcers' opinions are worth anything anyway. And his INT streak is indeed relevant, as he set an NFL record for that particular stat.

His interception streak was due to his longevity and durability. This by no means meant that he had good hands. I do not know a starting corner in the league that is going to play a full season and not record a single interception, therefore his interception streak is more of a testament to his longevity not pass catching ability.

My bad didn't mean to turn this topic into a D. Green discussion

Well there are over 50 players tied at 112th in the NFL in interceptions with 1 a piece. I think that pretty much covers it.

Green MAY have dropped half of his catch-able INTs (AND THAT IS A STRETCH!), but C Rog drops about 9 out of every 10 catch-able INTs.

Green's hand may not have been great, but I never remember him being called Darrell "hands of stone" Green, like Carlos. There are bad hands and then there are pathetic hands. Rogers falls into the pathetic category.

That being said, he shouldn't go anywhere! He would be an excellent nickel back.

I'm with you JSPB22. I watched almost his entire career and I don't recall bad hands either. I'm not saying he was Jerry Rice, but I sure don't remember him looking like he's trying to catch a pea in mid air with chop sticks like Rogers does.
