Whether you take up the Redskins or not, Smacky (hey, it's a personal decision), I hope you stick around. Welcome aboard. :)

Let me get this straight......

Smacky's a fairweather fan looking to jump ship on his team, right? Well then, skip the naked initiation and sign him up! He'll fit right in on this board. Welcome Smacky! You'll like it here. Listen....for starters.....say stuff like Danny boy sucks and Vinny's a puppet over and over. Also, no matter who we draft, you have to always know better and never agree with any move or decision by a coach. Be critical of everything and never ever be positive. And finally, if you do head to smack, you need to brush up on deviant sexual terms and definitions if you want to hang. Good luck.

Usually you jump ship when your team is sucking it up. My old team went 10-6 and was the number #3 seed in the NFC.

I am not here to lecture on the DOs and DONTs of fans.

But if anybody was really interested to join the Skins as their fan, I would study their history, their traditions, their ups and downs and the whole atmosphere, including my fellow fans, and the atmosphere at the Stadium.

Fans come in all shapes and styles. You will find great knowledgeable fans and stupid fans following each team in the NFL. But the balance tilts on the side of plain stupidity (e.g., Cowboys) and stupidity and aggression (e.g., Philadelphia).

If losing and mediocrity are the main factors encouraging your move, you came to the wrong place. We are not the flavour of the year. The Patriots won over thousands of fans who wish to "win now" over the last couple of years.

You came to a hard-core Skins site. To us, it does not matter win or lose, creepy owner and incompetent Front Office, great or bad coaches, young or old players. We will -always- be fans of the Skins because at least in ONE moment in time the Skins became part of us and us part of them even if a very small part. It is a bond for life.

So, do not be surprised that you get all kinds of responses here. We are biased. We know it and that is the way we love it. Call it masochism if you must. It did not look like that when things started in the late 60's for me as a young child but it surely seems to me like that now.

If I do move to the DC area, I'd like to be able to watch the home team without having to spend $250.00/year for the Sunday Ticket, of which usually 2 or 3 games are on National Television, so the pay per view costs are getting out of hand. Add in the $125.00 for the upgrade to Superfan (HD is better to watch the game) and I'd rather watch the home team for free and take that money and attend a game in person.

This isn't the easiest thing to do...after 34 years of cheering for the Vikings I am having a hard time with this. But, I haven't been a resident of Minnesota for over 6 years now, the ties are starting to slip away.

Plus, the Vikings will be moving out of state after their 2011 lease with the Metrodome expires. The way I see it, I'll beat them to the punch.
I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it.

This is speculation because many things can still happen. The way I see it, you are an NFL fan cheering for the home team of whatever city you are in. No law forbids that from happening. But many people would not consider that true LOYALTY.

Besides, Bud Grant was one of the greatest coaches in the NFL. Sure, they lost a bunch of SB games but they were a great team. Your team is one good QB away from dominance in the NFC North. I am not a fan of Childress but he is learning his way as a head coach.

While I grew up in DC, I haven't lived there since 1971. I will always be a Redskins fan. Always. Some ties just don't slip away. I live in Maine, now, have no attachment whatsoever to the Patriots, and never will.

I've lived in Little Rock, Arkansas for the past 6 years. Before moving down here, I could care less about the SEC or Arkansas for that matter. Now, I enjoy reading the Sunday paper to see how the recruiting is going, listen to the local sports talk radio to hear about the Razorbacks, etc.

If you have moved around the States as much as I have, you try to assimilate to the local area, it gives you a sense of belonging. (I've moved 4 times in the past 11 years)

I don't expect you to know this (no offense) but Bud Grant was the product of an awesome General Manager (Jim Finks). Back in the day, if you drafted and traded well, you were set for years and years (no free agency).

Forgive me, I'm trying to figure out how to insert url's; however, if you Wikipedia Jim Finks, it'll explain his greatness.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Finks

welcome to the board and if you feel this way just ask yourself how much money and dedication have i had with this team and find some reasoning to stick it it out with your vikings......i know it,s hard but you can do it we as skins fan had success and now we have a little bit of everything in between but that come with the territory and we as fans remain on the warpath to more success and trophies hopefully...so remain loyal to your team cause like the burgundy and gold once it,s in your blood it,s there to stay....

There's places like that in the US? I need to find a new place to live. And when I move away from DC Metro, I'm going to have to find a new career, too.

After reading Smacky's posts, I'm inclined to say that this is either GF come home in Jim Marshall's unique way, or Fios' alter-ego. Of the two, only Fios would moderate himself, and then complain about it.
Nobody writes like this but those two. Many of us try, but nobody but GF and Fios could come up with "I'm against picketing, but don't know how to show it."
What I mean is, with apologies to Spongebob, I smell the smelly smell of something that smells smelly.

Maybe it's the WalMart-related thread started in Smack.
