I know, I know.....but
Alright we all know the Skins reputation (never draft pay people lots o' money) but seriously I would not be mad if we backed up the armored car for Haynesworth, Suggs, and even a nice little chip for Sproles. All these guys would add a lot of what we need to defense and Sproles is exactly the complement we need for Portis (LIKE EXACTLY) especially with his return skills. That would free us up to draft a lot of depth on the O-Line. Either way I am sure we could free up some cap room and then we could keep building around those guys because they are all young (Sproles: 25, Suggs: 26, Haynesworth: 27). The other fact is that these signings would not be like the Lloyd signing (based on potential) or the Bruce Smith (past his prime) and these guys are better and more proven than....(Archuleta and ARE). The only thing I would say is do not over pay for Sproles but we would have to dump or trade Betts. What do you all think ? Break the bank for any of these guys? All of these guys? 2 out of 3? And don't act like we do not know how to restructure every contract to sign people for boat loads of money either!!

As I've posted innumerable times, I'm totally against signing Haynesworth. If he would be reasonably priced, then sure, but rumors are that he's seeking 10 million a year. I.e., franchise quarterback money.
I like him now...I think he's great. However, he's only really been great the past two years...both of which were contract years for him. One of the knocks coming out of college was that he was lazy...so I wonder once he gets his huge payday (and it will be huge), if he'll stop working. It's a completely legitimate question (remember Sean Gilbert?).
He's also not ...ever...started a full season in the NFL. He plays on average 77% of games; i.e., his average season lasts 11 games. Completely injury prone, and there's no reason to think that he will get healthier as he ages. In fact, it'll be quite the opposite.
In no way should the Redskins get involved in a bidding war for big bucks for a part-time player.
I do like Suggs, a lot, but I don't think DE is as much a weakness as DT. And Suggs, if the Ravens let him go (very doubtful) will cost a ton also.

The other thing is, that Suggs will need to convert from OLB to DE... it's not a seamless transition.
Personally, if the Redskins just shop for smart depth this offseason I'll be happy.

Wow, our fans would rather go into the season with the same 8-8 team plus another Cerrato draft special. I'm sorry but Free Agents are not inherently evil, a guy like Haynesworth would really help the Dline and Suggs might actually get some sacks, How many sacks did we have last season?
So let me get this straight, we'd rather sign no-one. And when we do draft, we can't expect the picks to actually produce anything on the field. We're screwed.

You asked about 3 specific players. Just because people would prefer we not sign those 3 specific players, does not automatically mean that we'd like to sign NO ONE. You've set up your own strawman there.
For example, I'd prefer we sign a FA offensive linemen. However, again, you didn't offer that as an example. You just said Sproles, Suggs, and Haynesworth.
Again, for the money he'd ask, part-time player Haynesworth isn't worth it. Suggs will be franchised or signed by the Ravens to a long-term contract. And Sproles would be great, but RB isn't exactly a pressing need on the team like OL or DL is. Or even LB.

I don't understand the question. What players would you revive the Redskins reputation for????

The reputation being referred to is that of our team targeting and acquiring a big-name free agent, presumably giving up too much for said free agent. Since last year we are not seen as doing so (despite Jason Taylor) that would mean such a move this offseason would "revive" the afformentioned reputation.
Bottom line is we play in the toughest division in football and our Oline is old as dirt. Not just old but getting dominated. At least the over the hill gang was productive.

Umm, In case you didn't get the memo, the Skins don't develope anyone. They always look at predeveloped players. When we bring in draftees and try to develpe them they get picked off our practice squad or let go.

Chrisey, Jon Jansen, Chris Samuels, Ladell Betts, Sean Taylor, Laron Landry, Carlos Rodgers, Rocky McIntosh... thats to name a few players we drafted and are good contributers or even pro bowlers
Becuase a few is all we have and for everone one of those names I can name two FA that we brought in...Take a look at Indy, Philly, NY, Pitt,TEnn, S.D. and see how they fill their rosters??

my thought exactly - why do some here think just because you don't follow their line of thinking that you're not thinking straight?
We do need a combination of a very good draft and a couple of free agents BUT I for one am also really against paying a lot for a "injury waiting to happen player" like Haynesworth - this FO has to find players who fit and who do not cost us a lot of money - that is what good organizations do

We also do not just need the flavor of the week

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I'll take that challenge, name the 16 free agents
