Tuesday's recognition of Albert Haynesworth as one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL could come at a steep price for the Tennessee Titans.
When Haynesworth was named to the Pro Bowl on Tuesday, it triggered a clause in his contract guaranteeing he can become an unrestricted free agent after this season.
The Titans had agreed to four conditions under which they would agree not to place the franchise player tag on Haynesworth. A second straight Pro Bowl appearance was one of those four triggers.
That doesn't mean Haynesworth is automatically out the door: The Titans still have exclusive negotiating rights with him until Feb. 27. But he's free to talk to other teams after that date.
Haynesworth's agent, Chad Speck, said now is not the time to discuss his client's future, according to The (Nashville) Tennessean.
"I am just excited for Albert that he made the Pro Bowl and he is certainly deserving of it,'' Speck said, according to the report. "Right now I know he is clearly focused on trying to get healthy and making it back for the playoff run. I think the contract stuff will take care of itself at the end of the season.''
Haynesworth made his case for a spot in the Pro Bowl with a team-high 8.5 sacks and 75 tackles this season. He sprained his knee on Sunday and will miss the Titans' final two regular-season games, but is expected to return for the playoffs.
Haynesworth, 27, would likely draw great interest in the free-agent market. The 6-foot-6, 320-pound defensive tackle has 91 tackles and 14.5 sacks in the past two years. In seven NFL seasons, all in Tennessee, he has 271 career tackles -- 199 of them solo -- and 24 sacks
I see some seriously significant drawbacks to him.
(1) he is due monster money offers from all sorts of teams; and
(2) haynesworth is always injured. Of his 7 NFL seasons, he's only lasted 16 games one year (his rookie year); Since that rookie year, he's played in 74 of 96 possible games (77% of games). As a comparison, it seems like Griffin is always injured and missing games...yet Haynesworth misses more games due to injury than Griffin has with the Skins (he's played in 69 of 78 games as a Redskin...88% of games).
And as Haynesworth gets older, it's not like he'll get more healthy...
It's a sketchy move to invest huge money into him, when you know he's virtually a part-time player.

Peppers isn't going anywhere. He went to UNC and loves it in Charlotte.

Maybe... but there's a caveat... when you have a monster DE who requires constant attention from the OL, who is playing next to you, it does create matchup problems on the inside.
We don't have that end.

If you all get a chance and the nfl network replays the game watch fred beat his one on one matchups as well as a few double teams. The fact of the matter is that with a few draft picks and min talent at DT or DE we will have to use FA top get younger and faster. It is not to that will must do this in a year but with the talent out there and the cost to get it, combine with our draft picks we the chance to bcome younger and faster with passion sooner rather then later. Also I have stated before I would give Canty/ DE a good look at LDE.

Not sure where you heard that, but Peppers is on the fast track out of Charlotte and can't wait.
Taylor and Landry will take no Prisoners!! - I just can't bring myself to delete it!
Peppers wants to play in a 3-4 folks, he's said he's open to other systems but prefers a 3-4. Also, having another end is NOT going to fix the team's lack of a solid DT. Threads like this one make me question whether Redskins fans would be patient enough to wait for the team to truly rebuild itself.

It's always frustrating in the immediate gratification world we live in to always "wait for next year." It would be a little tough to swallow, but I would be willing to accept that from JZ, provided that's what they say they're going to do. We've seen what improvements can be made in 1-3 years, so there need to be results in the next 2 years.
...any given Sunday....
RIP #21 Sean Taylor. You will be loved and adored by Redskins fans forever!!!!!
GSPODS:
The National Anthem sucks.
What a useless piece of propagandist rhetoric that is.
Haynesworth is looking to cash in with the Titans as much as possible. He’s reportedy seeking a six-year contract that would make him the highest-paid defensive player in the league.
“Not unless they give me a 100 percent guaranteed contract,” Haynesworth said when asked if he would be open to possibly taking less money to re-sign with Tennessee. “You want to try and make as much as you can because if you have a career-ending injury you are out … and the team sure as heck is not going to pay you. It’s not like baseball or basketball. You want to get as much as possible.
