I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic. Saying that ey's franchise records for a TE don't really count for a lot because the franchise has had some either (a) pretty pathetic tight ends (like Asher and Alexander), or (b) were TEs who were primarily blockers (like Warren).

I don't agree with that assessment. If you put ey on the right team, I think he could be a HOFer. He's certainly a candidate for MVP of this team.

Our line is good enough for a Qb to play well under. JC is just not getting it done.

He is not a GREAT TE.

He is not the clutch player he should have become when we needed him the most. EVERY TIME he drops or fumbles a ball, we lose. I can remember some critical times at the worst possible situation in third downs.

He CAN get to be our clutch player and to be fair it might be the QB. But he is not an MVP let alone a HOFer. Ican count quite a few TEs better than him at this time (Gates, D. Clark, Gonzalez, etc).

Yeah he does, but they're not all going to the Hall of Fame. There's a difference between being a good, even great player...and being a hall of fame player. You know that. Tony Gonzales will go to the Hall of Fame. There have been a total of SEVEN TEs in the Hall of Fame, with the most recent being Ozzie Newsome in 1990. It's just not a position where a ton of people get elected to.

Everyone said Walt Harris wasn't a starting caliber DB when he was here.... Look at when he did in SanFran. I've learned that there are too many issues with this team to accurately gauge anybody.

Actually I would rather have him at the weak side. But, Washington is getting old so he would be needed at the strong side. He could also be used as a defensive end as well. He did register 10 sacks when he played on the line.
This is of course if Lavar decided to play again and got back in shape. Which it seems he is not. Still a Lavar supporter and always will be.

Anyhow back to the subject. We have seen Jason Campbell for two years in a row now. So far not so good. He started to show progress then fell short in the end of the season. He has had a fair shot so far. We can play the blame game all we want to. Make excuses there are many.
The bottom line is he has been sub par.

I just want to see Colt get a real shot during training camp. I am confident he will too.

Zorn hand picked Colt in the draft. Campbell is Gibbs pick. So Zorn is giving Campbell a fair shot for now. If Campbell still does not get it together by next year he has to hit the bench.

Campbell also has the luxury of having a good running game. Yet he still fails. Six more games with at least a 4-2 record. That should be fair enough. All the while prepping Brennan , just in case.

This is true. I was really surprised about Walt Harris when he went to San Fran. Lloyd isn't excelling, but he's doing a lot better than he did here as well. I'll always support the Maroon & Black, but there's a question mark in the back of my mind sometimes now about who's fault is where...

C'mon guys - really good to great players and especially Hall of Fame players find a way to get it done. Being "on the right team at the right time" helps but really great players make a difference.

I think ey is very good but it would surprise me a lot if he makes it into the HoF. He's just not quite the complete TE - I am a ey fan and I think we are a lot better with him but he's not the complete package that a Gates or Gonzalez is. Plus, this is a very difficult position to get into the HoF and while ey has many more years I will be pleasantly surprised if he gets in.

Back to Brennan for a second - I know that I'm prejudiced but I certainly hope for Zorn and whoever is QB's sake, that we also see Thomas and Kelly get it all together this year as well.

I don't mean to nitpick your post, but I've seen several posts from people talking about how productive ey and Davis can be at the same time. Honestly I think that that is a load of nonsense and is the very reason why drafting Davis wasn't a smart move. There were a few teams that had decent contribution from two tight ends this past season. New Orleans had Billy Miller catch 45 passes for 579 and Shockey (who missed games) had 50 catches and 483 yards. For Miami Fassano had 34 catches and 454 yards and Martin had 31 catches for 450 yards. None of those four players (at this point) are anywhere near the player that ey is. So I'm wondering how people expect both Davis and ey to be productive in the same offense? Sure we could reduce ey's touches but how does that help the offense? ey is arguably our most reliable receiving threat so reducing his PT and giving Davis more plays makes no sense at all.

You cater your game plan around your strengths. If we have two top-teir TEs and don't use them to their strengths, then what good is that? Instead of running 3 WR, 1 TE, we can run 2 TE, 2 WR. What is the difference as long as we're running the best 4 receivers on the field? Oh, because there are 3 better receivers(excluding ey, whi is our best receiver IMO) on the skins roster RIGHT NOW PERFORMING... right?

Thanks Vet - I agree - I think that we should be tailoring the offense to suit the players you have - Davis offers a different TE threat to the opponent than ey - picking another TE the same as ey might have been a mistake BUT selecting a TE like Davis that (hopefully when combined with Thomas & Kelly) provides for more weapons to our scoring machine is a big plus - we should be so lucky that next year (Thomas, Kelly and Davis) show the NFC East why there were so many people in the NFL that thought (in March) we were very lucky to get these 3 guys.

I am a very biased supporter but I really think these 3 will have big year's with us - hopefully our game planning and QB can take better advantage of that and our great running back this year - we have to find a way to score more points to help this great defense we have had for the past few years
