Redskins CB Carlos Rogers said he wondered whether he has played his last game in Washington. Like many top picks in his 2005 draft class, Rogers faces losing unrestricted free agency after the 2009 season, becoming a restricted free agent instead, and would like to sign a long-term contract.
Asked if he thinks Sunday's game may have been his last with the Redskins, Rogers, who was the team's No. 3 cornerback down the stretch, said: "You think about that, of course. It's coming up on my last season [of his contract]. I've always said I'm not a backup. I'm not a backup to nobody. I'm a starter in this league, and I think everybody knows that because there are a lot of teams that would give their right arm to have me on their team. That's my mind-set, whether it's here or anyplace else." . . .
I don't really understand why Rogers would be on his way out. The starting corners would be Hall and Springs?
Why wouldn't they try to wrap up Hall and Rogers? Two young guys who have both performed pretty well. Is this a money issue?

why was the the third CB?
i would like to keep him and hall as starters, smoot as 3rd db......springs can go
2-2|0-4|1-2|0-0
home: 3-2
road: 0-6
Since 2000 the Redskins have scored 40 pts 2 times!!!!
12/30/01 @ NO 40-10 W
10/23/05 vs SF 52-17 W
Two 40pt games in a decade?? serious?? cant make up that sad fact!!
He should just be patient and think about the situation. He should know that the chances are that Springs wont be back next year and that would put him at the number two corner. So he'll be back and he'll be happy once Springs is gone
Why is there always such a big rush to sign players before their contracts are over? I can understand if a player has outperformed his rookie contract and you want to get him before his value rises too high...so you throw him a bone and renegotiate a year early and possibly recoup some back end savings. But for Rogers, the market will not be extremely heavy right now. I would make him earn the money in a contract year and make him show us what he can do...or if he can do it. Same for Campbell. Make them both show you why you should pay them...as Rod Tidwell says "Show me the money".
I notice we now have 2 threads on this I'll post here as it was the first.
As we all know, this source is not that reliable - I will let this develop a little more as I'm sure the facts are a little distorted and if this could be portrayed in any way to make the Redskins seem to be making a mistake, this group will find it
btw - the Redskins FO do not need any help from these idiots
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
I like Rogers a lot, but the more I read about and remember Shawn Springs, the more excited I get about a possible full season.
Springs is a tough, smart leader of the team, he's an excellent tackler and can help play run support. Last season he made 62 tackles! 4 interceptions, he even forced a fumble.
Springs is definitely descending in his abilities, but he probably has at least two good seasons left in him. Maybe three.
"Guess [Ryan Kerrigan] really does have a good motor. And is relentless. And never quits on a play. And just keeps coming. And probably eats Wheaties and drinks Apple Pie smoothies and shaves with Valvoline." -Dan Steinberg DC Sports Bog
Springs is a shut down corner. He is sooo much better than Rogers, even hurt and old!
Rogers has had a few solid games in his career. But he is by no means a top CB in the NFL.
How many times was he on the victim end of a big play in the last 4 years?
I would much rather have an injury prone shut down guy than an average guy who can't catch a ball thrown right into his chest by the opposing QB.
just my $0.02
So you would rather have a guy for 1 maybe 2 years that isn't going to get any better, is always hurt, than a young guy who is good and has a lot more potential than Springs and has stayed healthy all year even after a serious surgery? At least Rogers put himself in position to get 5-8 interceptions this year and stayed on the field. And you have to think that he will eventually get better at catching. That was even a nice catch vs. the 49ers.
That's exactly the way we've gotten here in the first place: let your young guys go and keep the aging veterans. Makes no sense to me.
Sprins will get hurt, so you're basically looking at drafting a young unproven CB in this draft or seeking one in FA. Why do this if you have your guys right now and know your D?
This isn't just the front office being morons. Greg Blatche demoted Rogers. You think Blatche did that for any reason other than Springs is a much, much better player than Rogers?
Yes, Rogers is younger than Springs. But he's been in the league for four years now. There isn't going to be quantum leap in abilities. Capitalize on his good half season, and trade him while you can. I know a lot of people think this is business as usual for the front office, but actually it would be a welcome departure. Sell high (trading Rogers), buy low (signing Hall), play the best guy (keeping Springs).
Hoping Springs stays healthy is the same mistake we made with Phillip Daniels. Then we traded for a retired football player turned dancer. Its not a good strategy. Rogers and Hall would own.
I say keep Rogers. He's young. He's getting a hold on things. And with Hall there, (which I think he will be) Carlos will be playing with a chip on his shoulder. There is no better incentive in this world than sweet revenge. If you make these guys play for there jobs then they'll do better.
Springs is good but he can't be counted on to make a full season. He didn't make one this year or last year. He's always hurt. I like all of them. Springs knows that his best chance in staying in the NFL is with Washington and moving down to Safety. If he can't, oh well. It's not like he's not rich.
Rogers should stay. If we find someone better, sign him and trade Carlos. Until then we should ride him until his wheels fall of.
They're not going to completely overhaul the team anyway. So I'd not be too surprised if they're all back next year.
*Springs is making a lot more than Rogers. They'd be stupid to get rid of a young guy that they're paying next to nothing that can play for the whole season. Oh yeah, I almost forgot.
How about we trade Vinny? We might get a Buffalo Nickel for him.
From the scuttle-butte that I'm hearing ole Vinny is going to have to prove himself too. Friends or not, Money is Money!

well said.
Rogers has only slightly improved over the last 2 years. I doubt he will learn to catch. He gets burned frequently. He was demoted, as SSIII insightfully noted.
Rogers seems to half-ass it much of the time when he is on the field. I would take a player who can shut down a player like T.O. over a guy who says he is one of the best, a starter in the NFL, but has done ZERO to prove it.
I am happy he came back from an injury, and I kept an open mind about him this season. But lets face it folks, he has not been as advertised.
A hurt Springs is better than a healthy Rogers any day.

They're are other options here. You're right Rogers did demoted. If he wants to get all upset then he should've played better. The Secondary isn't my concern it's both our aging lines. I'd like to see Hall back just so I can see what he can do for a full season. Didn't we pick up another Corner last year?
No one is going to offer anything close to what we used to get ROgers. We picked up Rogers in the first round. I do not see a team giving up a first round or second round pick.
Heck who are teams going to give us for him? A major D tackle , Linbacker? I do not think so. A first round pick or second round pick? Yeah keep dreaming! The Redskins always get ripped in trade deals. Well at least since Cerrato has been doing the deals.
Rogers bounced back from a major injury , turned in a good season and now we are talking about letting him go?
Here is the main reason we should keep him and let go of Springs.
Springs is old and will be out in a season or two. Why cut a solid corner and go looking for a new one? We already have problems at the Oline and Dline. We do not need to open another hole in the depth chart!
Keep Rogers , trade or cut Springs and focus on picking up some Defensive line and OFfensive line help. That should be the main focus of this front office.
Offensive line and defensive line help. Why add more problems?
Just think about it. Going into the draft with only a couple of positions to fill. Let go of Rogers and now we go to the draft with yet another need position. We also have a good saftey in Landry and an outstanding corner in Hall! Secondary should not be our focus at all!
IF we let go of Rogers best believe we are going to draft another corner in this upcoming draft to prepare for when we let Rogers go. Another pick that could be used to draft the Defensive lineman this team has been needing for so long.
