This makes no sense to me

Post by spudstr04 »

Based on "conversations with people inside Redskins park," beat writer Jason LaCanfora believes Shawn Springs and DeAngelo Hall will be the starting corners next season and Carlos Rogers will be elsewhere.

LaCanfora hears that Hall may re-sign for somewhere around six-years, $48-million, which would make Rogers a trade candidate. Rogers had an amazing start to the season after recovering from ACL and MCL surgeries, but the 'Skins preferred Hall's playmaking upside down the stretch. Rogers may bring a second or third round pick in return.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/2008/12/2008_positional_review_-_corne.html?wprss=redskinsinsider

Why not cut Springs and save money? A lot of the "experts" said that Rogers deserved to be a pro-bowler. I know that he dropped somewhere between 5-7 Ints, but I would much rather see a younger trio of Hall-Rogers-Smoot, than take a chance on Springs' health.

If we could get a second rounder for him though, I could see the front office biting. I just hope we would use that pick to draft a good back-up DB. Tryon showed that he couldn't cover and Kareem Moore is more of a safety.

If they do this, this further backs up my argument to blow this thing up and get rid of Vinny and Zorn. What GM and HC in their right might would make this move. Springs is basically done and he's costing us money. I appreciate deeply what he has done for us while he was here but he's older and injured too much for us to let Rogers go. Springs is probably not going to restructure his deal so we need to let him go. Keep that Secondary young and if you need to, find another CB in like the 10th round or something from Nichols State or Florida A&M.

This is way right now with the people that appear to be out there now at both HC and GM, Danny should blow it up and bring in a seasoned GM and HC.

How about bring Casserly back and then making a run at Spagnulo, Schwartz and a feeler out to Cowher and Shanahan??? What would it hurt? Danny's got enough money from fleecing fans and marketing so he should just take his lumps as an owner and start over with a quality GM and either one of the hot assistants or Cowher/Shanahan....

I'll reserve judgement until if/when it happenas but on the suface this has Snyder written all over it and would prove my point that's it Snyder not Vinny calling the shots.
Your kidding yourself Roy if you think any of them want to come gere and work for Snyder we found that out last year...Sorry to say the Skins HC has lost alot of it's appeal...very sad!!

You are probably right Hog but I think that it is still a viable job if you get the GM and HC that have experience and don't take no crap from owners.

It's all about pedigree too. Do you think that Snyder would mettle with a Parcells, Cowher or Shanahan? Or even an experienced GM like Pioli or even Casserly??

Yes and no...
Parcells is the one guy who tells the owner how it will be before he takes the jog and gets the owner to agree to it!! If not he doesn't take the job ie Atlanta last year.

Cowher is trying...notice he didn't even go for the interview with the Jets because they weren't willing to give him the controll he wants.

I think it's a hard sell to get Snyder to give up control??

Wow, Rogers would be the right choice to stay because he is actually on the field. Springs will only play 8 games next season and everyone knows it. That would be a very dumb move for this team to make.

I'm with DEhog, I'll reserve my outrage until something actually happens.

LaCanfora is the same guy who had sources tell him the 'Skins planned a press conference to announce the hiring of Steve Mariucci last year.

Letting Rogers go and keeping Springs is a bad idea. Not because Springs isn't a great corner, he is and our defense is definitely better when he is in there. The down side to Springs is that he has been injured for almost one half of a season for the last 2 - 3 years. Rogers may not be an interception machine but he is a good corner, better than most out there. I would rather see Hall, Rogers and Smoot as our top 3 corners with Horton and Landry as the safeties. We have one of the best defensive backfields going.

I know this goes without saying, but this is true, and it wouldn't surprise me, this will further prove that our FO has no idea what they are doing.

This would be a disappointing start to the offseason, if true. I wish I could say I'd never expect Snyder / Cerrato to do something like this, but. . .

Well, if true, I'd be right there with you... consider, however, that this report comes from Jason LaCanfora... the inside source is probably the guy who delivers uniforms for the maintenance crew...

I'm a big front office apologist but I don't get this move either, I love Carlos Rogers.

Of course, it's all speculation, and we might want to move Rogers while his value is at an all-time high...

Still, as much as I like Shawn Springs he only played 9 games, and he's expensive.

At least we have Smoot for depth. Hopefully if this story is true we can get a decent haul for Rogers.

(I'm really encouraged that it looks like we're getting Hall back, I was really excited by the way he played this season, he's a great athelete.)

This will never happen, because no team (other than the Skins) would give anything higher than a third for Rogers. And for that I don't think the team would move him!

Springs is still this teams best CB, when healthy, but at this stage can you count on Springs for a full season?

Count me in with the "wait & see" group  I have very little faith in "reports" - especially with this team's rapport with the local media

I thought Rogers still had another year to go? I wonder if they might be thinking of getting something for Rogers??

I am also hopeful that we can keep Hall and I think we would have an awsome secondary if we could have both Hall and Rogers there for the next year and try using Springs as the FS and while Landry could play FS he would be used a lot more as a SS and bring him closer to the line in more packages and thus have Hall, Springs and Rogers in the backfield.

we shall see
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I'm on board. I've never been impressed with Rogers, and would rather have Springs for the eight games he'll be healthy than Rogers for the whole season.

Rogers' value will probably never be higher, thanks to a good first half that I think was probably a fluke. He's our third best cornerback - why not cash him in for a draft pick rather than a let a superior, if injury-prone, player walk away for nothing?

Injury prone doesn't describe Springs. Its more like Injury time bomb.

I'm starting to warm up to it I guess.

Remember Shawn Springs' first season where he had like 6 sacks and was just a monster? He's still a well above average player IMO but I'd kill for that kind of production.

People do overpay for decent corners and if we could flip Rogers for some picks, or even for an established player straight up it might be a good move.

At least Springs is injury prone because he sacrifices his body for the team. It's not like he gets turf toe every other week like Deon Sanders. :P

Anyone who doesn't think Rogers is a good Corner is in thinking clearly. Losing Rogers is would come back and hunt us for at least four seasons. Hall is a good corner but, he is not lock down and not better than Rogers. He once was but now they are about the same. Remember D. Jackson beat D. Hall but, dropped a few balls one was TD. One of his Int's Romo just throw behind TO. Rogers has been consistent all season look at the stats.

If this happens I will hate Vinny even more. It makes no sense to keep a 34 year old player over a only 4 year player, who I think is a really good corner and could be great if he could catch all the int's that hit him in the hands. This would just be stupid... Sign Hall and Rogers to long term contracts..that would be the smart move, but when has Vinny ever made a smart move

Man I just hate the fact we have had good players and we let them go to become better players somewhere else. Rogers is not part of the problem and I'm willing to bet that the redskins if they trade Rogers it will be to miami for the pick we give for taylor. If that happens I will be come a dallas fan.

This is why I keep saying blow it up and get a real GM and a real HC to rebuild. Why should this even be a topic of conversation? Why does Carlos feel that way? He shouldn't have the feeling he is on the hot-seat when he's been the best CB we had all season, despite the dropped Int's....

the thing is he will have to be traded and one pick will not do because no will give more than a third and sixth for Rogers so I think he will be here.
