So for example, we replace our entire O and D lines and draft a couple of stud receivers to replace the boobs we did last year who need to LEARN to play receiver wasting the entire first year. Oh, and with a 6th rounder we pick a HOF bound QB, like the Pats did with Brady so we can cut JC. I bet those idiots you refer to, Dan the Man and My Cousin Vinnie screw THAT great idea up though. In the first 4 rounds I would look at DE, DT, OG and OT I would see if I could trade Betts (Portis makes too much) to someone who would pick up his salary for a 3rd or 4th. I would look for RB with this pick….never again would I give a RB a big contract…RB’s are the one position that seems to contribute right away and there shelf life is short…I’d have two headed monster with him and Portis. I would make a decision on Springs he either moves to FS (if he can) or we cut him, Landry to SS with Horton and Doughty giving us depth. In the late rounds I’d look at LBers and K
Assuming we clear enough cap room to sign Hall I’d look to trade Los or Smoot for a pick. And look to fill one maybe two needs via free agency…I much prefer to add depth via free agency…I want my starters to be home grown, playing for a contract and be coach buy our staff. With the 7th round pick I'd pick C Nick Richmond from Del State

there's not much speculating to do with 3 draft picks this year.. lets see we need .. DL, OL , LB .. and we need about at least 2 of each to really add some young depth .. but we will most likely trade our 3rd and 6th rounder along with next years 1st to move up and take Crabtree out of Texas Tech.. because thats an area of need in Matt Millon's mind.. im sorry I mean Vinny's mind

exactly.. and we have one 6th round pick after those 2.. right once we make progress we take a step back.. and that is why weve had the fewest draft picks by far since the year 2000 and thats why we are at best every year a 6-10 to 10-6 team

You're asking for too much. First of all not too many people here follow collegiate sports or have the ability to scout players. DEHogs answer was valid enough. It's not like the FO is focusing on the lines and are simply striking out. They're not addressing them at all, that's the darn problem.

Now, you're "contest" won't even work if they again fail to draft anybody at these positions of need. What if I pick a few guys and the Skins don't pick similar positions for us to compare and contrast against? Oh, it's possible it could happen!



It is "easier" to draft quality guys like the Ravens are able to do. The issue is that we don't have a similiar system in place. I read an ESPN article that stated that the Redskins (among other teams) hire outside companies to do a bulk of their scouting/information gathering....

That's a stark contrast to the Ravens who develop/groom employees from within the organization to move into their scouting dept. They do this because having been raised in the organization these employees are knowledgeable of the character and other traits that fit the schemes and the emotional make up of the team.

All of that was in the ESPN article that I read but I doubt anyone here read it because "we" are all anti-anyone that is negative of a mediocre, tire spinning, inept franchise.


So all of that being said... It's NOT easy to find talent... But it can be EASIER and MORE SUCCESFUL than our FO makes it... If Danny had the common sense to pour his (undying fan support) money into the correct channels and not just for huge contracts. Pump that money into a similar FO structure as the Ravens but he won't do that because he's too stubborn.

I mean, really, don't be mad at us cus they suck, have sucked and will most likely continue to suck. If they hadn't sucked for so long we wouldn't be complaining.

In the recent rants about "we should have gotten this guy," I wanted to eliminate the the people who like to research a <almost> full year's play and then say, "God, we should have gotten Royal instead of Kelly. Royal's performed so much better! God, the front office is stupid!!!!" With this hindsight "duh" factor, any tool can figure out who's performed AFTER they've performed. I wanted to get a few realistic mock drafts from these hindsighters so they can break their arms patting themselves on the back. After all, if it's so easy, shouldn't they be able to do it?

YEEEEEA!!!! Draft talk that's what i'm talking about. Now on to the topic at hand, Zorn is my choice for the next three years as head coach. He toke the job on short notice and did well for the first half of the season, then his old players ( o-line) broke down an so did the season. With less than average talent and depth we were able to be more than meets thee eye.

THE REDSKINS 09 DRAFT AND OFFSEASON (AKA THE TRANSFORMERS)

It is clear to everyone that " WE MUST REBUILD" to do that and build a winner history shows that you start with o-line and d-line. We need to get younger and more talented at both, to do this should start with the strongest of your needs in the draft. This year that is the o-line in all three postions ( OG,OT and OC). The problem is with just four picks we have to trade for more picks or go with the safest pick at one of the three postions.
I believe our weakest postion on the o-line is OG bottom line. There are more talented OT but #60 will not be traded and # 74 is really a RT, so will be fine.
But Pete and Randy can not and not start next year. Here are some first round choices. We have too pick at least two OG.

Late picks

Rey Feinga OG
Paul Fanaika OG
Kraig Urbik OG

The drop off in talent after the first rounds at OT doesn't allow us to pick one in the later rounds, plus we need LB's. I will hit you all later wife callin.

Looking at the standings, if we can finish 8-8, we'll probably have a pick in between 13-16. We might be able to trade down like last year, but if we were drafting out of need, then we should take either the best O-Lineman. D-Lineman, with our 1st round and 3rd round picks. Find a serviceable back-up LB with the late round pick.


Here are my picks:
Round 1: Greg Hardy DE Ole Miss
Round 3: Anthony Parker OT/OG
Round 5: Ray Feinga OG BYU
Round 6: Michael Tauiliili LB Duke

I looked up some info on each of my mock picks.

Hardy missed Ole Miss' first three games of the season while recovering from a foot injury, but he returned for game four against Vanderbilt, and the Rebels have to be thrilled about that. After all, the absence of the SEC's 2007 sack leader (Hardy had 10) is no small loss. Hardy also recorded 64 total tackles (18.5 of which were for a loss) in picking up First Team All-SEC honors from both the coaches and the AP. He also started nine games as a freshman in 2006, so he has the experience to step in and make an impact at the next level right away even if he decides to leave school early. More importantly, Hardy has the necessary blend of size and speed to thrive at defensive end on Sundays. He is 6'4 and 265 pounds and can run under 4.7 in the 40-yard-dash. Obviously the only real drawback to Hardy at the moment that could cause NFL scouts to shy away is durability concerns. If Hardy can stay healthy the rest of his junior season and post similarly strong numbers, he could be tempted to pack his bags by being a sure first-round pick in next April's draft.

Parker has a lot of things going for him, but also a lot of things going against him. First the good: he started 12 games as a sophomore in 2006 and all 14 of Tennessee's games as a junior last season. Parker has been used at right guard and left guard. Paving the way for an extremely successful rushing attack in Knoxville last year, Parker was name a consensus First-Team All-SEC performer by both the coaches and the media. He is not huge compared to linemen nowadays (6'3 and 300 pounds), but he can run under 5.0 in the 40-yard dash. Now for the bad: the Volunteers are enduring a brutal 2008 campaign so everyone's stock is suffering. Minor injury concerns also surround Parker. He missed the Outback Bowl in his sophomore season with a knee injury and he had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee during this pre-season. Nonetheless, he has hardly missed any playing time. And last for the ugly: character questions could come up, as Parker was arrested this January for disorderly conduct when police officers tried to disperse a crowd. Despite all that, Parker should be off the board no later than the third round if he can stay healthy, out of trouble, and end this trying season on a positive note.

OG Ray Feinga from BYU was selected All-Mountain West First Team for the 2008 college football season. He is 6'5'' & 335 lbs. He helped BYU lead the MWC and rank No. 7 nationally in passing offense (308.9 yards/game). Helped BYU lead the MWC and rank No. 18 nationally in total offense (444.8 yards/game). Helped BYU rank second in the MWC and No. 19 in the nation in scoring offense (35.3 ppg). Helped BYU lead the MWC and rank No. 11 nationally in first downs (292). Helped BYU lead the MWC and rank No. 3 nationally in third-down conversions (55.9 percent). Helped BYU lead the MWC and rank No. 10 (tied) in fourth-down conversions (70 percent). Has started all 12 games at guard for BYU this season.

I am a Duke fan. I love this Tauiliili kid. Every time I watched or listened to Duke, I heard his name. He is a ball-hawk. He is a little undersized at 5'11'' and 235 Lbs, but so is London Fletcher. He was selected All-ACC Conference First Team and All-American Third Team. He finished with a ACC Conference high - 140 tackles. He also had 4 interceptions, 13 tackles for loss, and 3 forced fumbles. There might be a chance that we can pick him up with a late 7th round compensatory draft pick, but I think this kid is gonna be special in the NFL and is worth the 6th round gamble. He played mostly Inside LB in his college career, but he has moved around and can play some OLB.

Yea I'd like to see more of him...I was struggling between C, LB and S at that pick...I just think a D should be very strong up the middle...we need a big nasty run stopper, Flecther show no signs of his age I'm riding him until someone can beat him out. I just think LaRon is so much better at SS this kid from SC is a big playmaker.
I liked Kenny Phillips from the U and think he would have loved to come to D.C. and play in Sean's spot...would it have inspired him, or would it have been to much pressure...we'll never know but he had played well in NY.

Funny... after I posted this I was reading that Vinny said he would turn our 3-4 picks into 5-6 picks so I'm guessing he leaning towards trading the #1

Assuming there are no trades, here are the guys to watch by round, and I'm trying to be realistic considering we won't pick THAT early in rounds.

Round 1- likely to be there (Granted, all projections will change immensely before draft day)

1. Michael Oher OT 6'5" 330 MISSISSIPPI- He's a big, tremendous run blocker with solid pass blocking skills. He could keep bull rushers out of the backfield and restore a good run attack to the strong side.

2. Gerald McCoy DT 6'4" 295 Oklahoma- Prototypical upfield 4-3 tackle. Can get in the backfield and hold up against the run. Could be the first DT off the board.

3. B.J Rahi DT 6'1" 334 Boston College- Very stout DT, holds up well against the run and can also collapse the pocket and get to the QB.

Those who could climb or fall to our spot and be worth a look-

Climbers-

Tyson Jackson 6'4" 295 DE LSU- Huge, Bull Rushing DE, convert to DT?

Brian Cushing 6'3" 253 OLB USC - Big, athletic linebacker to play SAM

Terrence Cody DT 6'4" 375 Alabama- "Mount Cody" Huge run stuffer type. Opinions have him going ahead or behind where we will be drafting. Ideal for 3-4 but we could use him perhaps.

I think many of you know Darrius Heyward Bey of Maryland, I don't think they will go WR but he is explosive with reasonable height and hands.

Fallers-

Brian Orakpo 6' 3" DE Texas- pass rush extraordinare, Convert to LB? He could possibly fall to us.

Eugene Monroe 6' 5" 310 OT Virginia- Quick with a massive frame, a pass blocking specialist who could dominate against the run if he played with better leverage. Also could add weight to frame.

Round 3- likely to be there

Herman Johnson OG LSU 6'7" 391 Good run blocker, hard to get around in the passing game. He's not great in space but good for his size. Could stand to lose a few pounds IMO.

Also Levitre of Oregon State is a possibility here at guard. He is 330ish and very athletic for a Guard.

Clay Matthews OLB USC 6'4" 242 Another big USC linebacker, Not as explosive as his counterpart Cushing, but could bring pressure from the SAM position in the NFL, as well as hold up against the run. It may be a stretch to think he'll be around but it could be close.

Michael Bennett DE 6'3" 265 Texas A&M Reasonably explosive for a DE and not small either. Brother is Martellus Bennett of the Pukes. A bit of a riser who broke out this year.

Rounds 5-7 Too early to tell at this point. Personally, I would love to see them take a kicker like Succop from SC, who has a big leg and is reasonably accurate. Maybe a big WR like 6'6" Ramses Barden out of Cal Poly to help in the Red Zone. He had 18 td's this year. Should be some decent guards from round 5 on.
