I've said before and say again....this guy in my new FAVORITE on this team. Now I'm hunting for my next Jersey #30.
Here's what Laron said about the goal line stand:
Here’s how he broke down the final play in tonight’s game, when he put himself in perfect position to prevent a potential game-tying touchdown. “That’s how you’ve gotta play it, because they had to get a touchdown,” he said. “They couldn’t throw another checkdown, because it would’ve run the time out, so I knew they weren’t going to Westbrook. They needed a touchdown, so I just played the goalline. I saw him turn his shoulder for the dig route, and I just broke down on it. That’s it.”
And, as far as his enormous hits in tonight’s game … he claimed that he wasn’t sure they were that big at all.
“If I get fined for it, then I say it’s a big hit. All my hits have to be a fine in order for it to be a big hit,” he explained. “If I hit somebody, and Wednesday or Thursday when I’m sitting down at my locker and the FedEx package comes to me, then I know I’ve done my job. I’m gonna be waiting Wednesday and Thursday for my FedEx package, and I’ll let you know.”
I have been impressed by Landry. He has become one of the best Safeties, maybe the best, in the NFL,
I am really looking forward to the development of Chris Horton. Between the two of them, the Redskins should have the best safety tandem in the NFL history for years to come.

The Skins had the best saftey tandem last year.
With Horton comming on they will have an elite saftey team.
I hope our starting DBs next year are Landry, Horton, Rodgers & Hall, with Smoot in the nickle.
i really like him, would love to see him get mre pics.....cause i think he will be like ed reed with the ball in his hands....and score tds!
2-2|0-4|1-2|0-0

Since 2000 the Redskins have scored 40 pts 2 times!!!!

I don't think he's that good. He'll be darned nice but I don't think he has the runners vision that Ed has. If he does, he hasn't shown it yet.
I like his game I really think it is quit unique
he has good skills his visions great I Really like his skills.
His overall effect on the the field is key though, the skins don't really have a dominator on D, but they play great team Defense.
I love watching and waiting to see what the hecks going on.
god blessed us with # 59 ... go skins

I think he's better at SS ...this is the first game we've heard his name??
I want a big playmaking SS and LaRon to move back to SS

He completely took Deshawn Jackson out of the game, and really helped make Deangelo Hall's job a lot easier... That one hit messed up his head for the entire game. There is an excellent chance that Deshawn Jackson will never really show up for a Redskins game again. Laron Landry is in his head for a long time to come.
When you see that kind of game from a good receiver, you know you are looking at the work of a top tier Safety. Nice work, Laron!

This is an excellent point. We all know what a threat D. Jackson is. But after a few licks and bruises from LL, he just wasn't the same. I think Jackson went in for some xrays during the game.....OUCH....!!!

You remember that the big hits Sean Taylor would inflict on T.O.? TO was totally ineffective when ST was on the field.

I also really like Landry but I also think that he will be more of an asset if we have him playing Strong Safety - this guy is incredibly talented and I think we would be better served to have him playing closer to the line in 2009
I understand that our secondary this year needed him back there but we have Hall now (Hall needs to get paid big bucks to ensure he is leading our CBs next year) and we either make Springs the FS or find someone to play back there - Landry is too good a SS to have him playing in our secondary
This guy has fantastic ability and we need him playing SS where he has a lot more opportunity to b e devastating.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

You don't hear Landry's name a lot because he plays so deep and lets Horton reek havoc near the line. It's a lot like it was with Taylor, who started to make more plays when he got more comfortable in the defense. I'm hoping Laron can stay at free and realize when he's got the green light to go make a play as he gets more comfortable with the system. I think that will happen. If you notice, the skins don't give up a lot of deep passes. A lot of that is because we have had nasty Free Safeties lately.

We've had this discussion before about LL as FS. You don't hear his name b/c he's an intimidating factor at center field. Case in point, the OP of this thread. I don't care if I hear his name but 1x for the whole season. He's back there doing his job intimidating the Jacksons and QBs of the game. That's what I FS SHOULD do and I think Landry and his 4.3 speed needs to be there. If Kareem comes around like people say, there's nothing wrong with playing 3 safeties. The more successful packages you can employ, the harder it is for the opposing offense to game plan.
...any given Sunday....
RIP #21 Sean Taylor. You will be loved and adored by Redskins fans forever!!!!!

I not buying that Vet...The FS should be your playmaker...Horton made more plays than Landry...This if Landry had been there!
You hear Reed, Dawking, Sanders, Polomolu, I this Landry could be our and would be talked about in the same breathe as Bob Sanders

The difference with our team and those teams you've pointed out is that they have a pass rush to make the QB make mistakes, giving the FS more opportunity. We don't have a pass rush, which gives LL less opportunity. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but those guys mentioned have been in their position for more than a year. Many people believe LL will continue to get better at his position, just like ST improved at his.

I'm not completely disagreeing with you either. I just like his headhunting out there knocking receivers out of their underoos with supersonic speed* as opposed to filling a gap.
I still fantasize about getting another true exceptional safety and having two 'interchangeable' safeties like Area 51. I don't think Horton can play FS well enough for that to work. Maybe Moore can sttep up? He looked pretty good from the little I've seen him lately. Even likes to hit a little bit.
