I think there may need to be some personnel changes with our offensive line BUT not all the blame for our offensive line problems is due to poor play from the players as much as I think the run blocking and pass protection schemes have not suited our players and the game planning.

We will see some changes as we are getting a little old with these guys but the biggest change needs to come from our offensive schemes suiting all of the players - yes we need better execution from the players but the run blocking and the pass protection schemes are just not getting CP the holes he needs and giving Campbell the time he needs.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

This is ludicrous. The coaching and pass blocking schemes have been applied to most of these players for several years, now. There has not been a big problem with run blocking... CP is among the rushing leaders, and you don't do that based on your skill alone. You have to get help. Pass blocking, otoh, is attrocious. The problem is that their skills are deteriorating. Jansen is not able to step with authority. Samuels has really not been 100%. Most of our sacks have resulted from our tackles getting burned off their outside shoulder, while our guards are giving ground in the middle. Not good.

where is the pick for "all 5"?
2-2|0-4|1-2|0-0
home: 3-2
road: 0-6

Since 2000 the Redskins have scored 40 pts 2 times!!!!
12/30/01 @ NO 40-10 W
10/23/05 vs SF 52-17 W
Two 40pt games in a decade?? serious?? cant make up that sad fact!!

Maybe I should have been more specific in that the run blocking in the last few games seems to me to be not as good as it was earlier because I have noticed that the defensive players have been more effective in stopping the run and it seems to me that we have not made the adjustments to our blocking schemes.

Totally agree that the pass blocking is much more of a problem but again this is due as much to the players as the schemes that they are being coached to execute.

Ludicrous to you maybe ...

Ludicrous works. I'd suggest that the run blocking has deteriorated as well... the linemen are beat up... Heyer pass blocks better than Jansen, but Jansen run blocks better than Heyer. Jansen, I fear, is cooked. Additionally, we have faced several teams in the past few weeks that are exceptional run defenses... beyond that, teams have figured out just how anemic our passing game is, resulting in even more ability to stack against the run... that's a huge problem. Add Portis' nagging injuries, the loss of Samuels, Campbells glacial release, and we're pretty much done...

Thank God for Cincinatti!

I agree - hopefully the team plays well and we get a chance to give a few of our starters a rest and see what some of the backups can do

We just seem to play down to some of these "lesser" teams levels - we need to win these last 3 and go from there - we have a number of issues to address and both lines need to get younger and faster.

Honestly none of these guys remind me of the hogs.

I just dont have the same confidence as you would have in the Hogs.

No disrespect to the current guys. But, please they should not be mentioned in the same breath.

When I think Hogs I think Domination. The other team knowing whats coming and they cant do a darn thing about it.

None of these guys make me think that.

If you're talking now, Samuels (if he wasn't hurt) has been an anchor for us and Jansen and Thomas while their times are running out have been great for us as well. It's not necessary to ignore what they have done and disrespect them in order to advocate their time is up and it's time for change. Rabach and Kendall have helped out too, though I agree comparison to the Hogs is a stretch for them.

I mean no disrespect to these guys at all. In fact I dont blame them at all for the current problems. I actually blame Jason Campbell. I think Campbell holds on to the ball way too long. I also think he has lost his confidence.

Back to the subject, these current lineman have been nicknamed the dirtbags. Samuels and Jansen have been holding it down for a long time.
Thomas came a little later but still is a good player. When healthy he can be a pro bowler. Jansen is coming back from an injury last year and I dont think he is 100 percent. I think he is more like eighty percent of his old self. He should be fine after a hard off season training program.

There will never be another set of the Hogs. We might get another set of great lineman but never the Hogs again.

But , I do consider all of us here Hogs by blood relation to the Redskins.

Well I guess the Criteria has to be defined for becoming a Hog? Ten years of domination? Multiple pro Bowls? Whos to say?

Buges? The original Hogs? Us as fans?

:D Yeah!

For me I picture Jacoby with Blood on his jersey from the opposing defenders. I picture him mashing a guy into the grass. Grimm pulling and putting snot bubbles into the defender.

Just thinking of how the Bills defensive line felt in the Superbowl. How the Hogs Dominated the Broncos in the 87 SuperBowl. The run Timmy Smith had! You look at the Hogs on that play and you can clearly see Holes the size of New Jersey. That is what I think of when you think Hogs.

Realistically everyone here who has seen the Hogs knows. Just kinda wishful thinking with the current squad. :D

One outstanding tackle and guard would shore up this line. Along with hard off season training with the current squad.

Jansen should bounce back fine next year. I think Thomas has had a decent season. Samuels will be coming off of injury. Rhineheart was the guy I wanted to see get in there this year. Rabach I am not too sure about. He seems to have a mean streak. Heyer I think is coming into his own.

Overall we need a great blocking tight end. The Hogs of old always had outstanding blocking from there tightends.

This may be the worse analysis of anything I've ever read. Jansen's had three bad years in a row and is clearly through, Rhineheart has failed even to be activated, Rabach has become a liability, Samuels has slipped,
Thomas has become an average player and Heyer has never been able to handle superior players.

The only completely sound position on the team is tight end, where we have one of the best pass catching TE's in the league, an excellent blocking TE, and a talented rookie.

What makes you think Fred Davis is talented?

We have seen little to nothing of him this year.

Right now he's a project.

My first two sentences pointed out what I think this line needed.

Adding one good tackle and guard along with a hard off season training program for the current guys.

Jansen and Thomas have both been injured the past couple seasons. Which is why I think next season if they have a good off season training program in they may come back fine. Samuels has slipped a bit. He has been in the league for a while now.

I was trying to be positive. And no we do not have good blocking tight ends. Are you a kidding me. Cooley is an awsome player but cant block that well.

I am sure the coaches would do some tweeking, but as an approach I think what you're proposing makes sense, Herohamo. Those advocating blowing up the line are naive. You're proposing we take some measured steps. The minor disagreement I have is I think they probably did the right thing letting Rhineheart study and learn this year, but like you I hope to see him start playing next year. He was a third rounder, which means he's a great prospect but not to the ready to go level of a first rounder. Third rounders on the line probably do well when they really start playing the second year.

I think Yoder's the blocking TE in question.

I'm not speculating one wy or the other. I KNOW that Cooley's not the blocking TE, although I think he got better from last year. I wouldn't be surprised if they are reversed next year.

Maybe you haven't seen him block but I distinctly remember hearing in the preseason that blocking was his weakness since he's more of a catching TE. Once the preseason games got rolling people were shocked and surprised at how much better he was at blocking than previously assumed. If you want further evidence talk to Jansenfan who specifically watched him in the preseason and agrees with me that his blocking is surprisingly good.

That's why I asked in all seriousness. I hadn't seen him play much (and I discount preseason action a lot...I don't put stock in what players do in it, as I can easily recall that Spurrier preseason we killed everyone (Danny Wuerrfle was the greatest QB alive), and then the real season came around and we stunk...). Interesting.
