Bengals/Redskins Postmortem
Wow, ugly... discuss/vent but keep the language under control.
"Guess [Ryan Kerrigan] really does have a good motor. And is relentless. And never quits on a play. And just keeps coming. And probably eats Wheaties and drinks Apple Pie smoothies and shaves with Valvoline." -Dan Steinberg DC Sports Bog
New week, new opponent, same 10 point offense, same choking 4th quarter defense, same end result. If I didn't know better I'd swear I was watching the same game every week. I can't bear to watch these losers anymore. How 'bout we flush the entire team and just start all over again. The result couldn't be any worse than what we have now. The Redskins are an embarrassment to their great heritige and the NFL.

If Snyder is a fan then he should sell the team because we need an owner, not a fan. He has continually made bad decisions overall and I'm tired of seeing my favorite team struggle because of the position the front office has put them in. Please sell the team to an owner who can make football decisions or who is smart enough to know who to hire to make football decsions.
There is not a head coach worth hiring who wants to be told who his OC and DC are going to be. Essentially what you're saying is that..."we're smarter than you, we'll hire you to make playcalls but not to hire your own staff". Does that make sense to anyone???? I sure don't see it.

Is Jason Campbell really worth it? He looked very mediocre.
Look at it this way.
We gave Denver a 3rd round pick in 2005 and a 1st and a 4th in 2006.
These players turned out to be (in order):
CB- Karl Paymah (Career backup, decent nickelback great special teams player.)
*Worth noting is that Kirk Morison was still available and was taken two picks later
LB Manny Lawson (Star linebacker.)
*This pick was traded by Denver to San Fransisco
WR Brandon Marshall (Star WR, one of the best young players in the game even if he is a bit of a headcase.)
Jason Campbell cost us three picks that amounted to two pro bowl type players and a special teams ace...
Has he been a bit worth it? I don't think so. He's been a very average QB with obvious flaws that may keep him from ever becoming above average.
The kind of trade that brought us Jason Campbell is the reason why we are where we are. Mired in mediocrity since the days of Gibbs' first tenure.

Snyder wasn't out there missing throws and failing on the goal-line, players have to be held accountable like O-Line, Campbell, and Smoot played like dirt and Marcus Washington wasn't even in the game so we've got backups starting on D but its all on the offense again.
At this point, I'm ok with Colt Brennan getting an opportunity.

You're right Snyder was not out there, but he is ultimately responsible for the product on the field. Maybe if we had some quality depth on the O-line instead of drafting 3 pass catchers who really haven't made much of an impact. If you think aobut it the greatest WR in the world isn't going to be effective if his QB doesn't have time to throw, as Randy Moss when he was in Oakland. It starts at the top and works it's way down. 10 years of Dan Snyder and 10 years of mostly bad decisions.

I think
- Campbell is a good young QB with only one WR and a thin OL
- Zorn is learning. He wasn't my choice, but he's no slouch. The assistants are good.
- The draft is a gamble. In 1980, the Jets took Johnny Lam Jones at the top, and the Redskins drafted Art Monk. Nobody thought Monk would be a star. Dexter Manley was a 4th round, and Charles Mann about a 5th. Who knew? Also, the Redskins traded two firsts to move up and draft Desmond Howard.
- OK, this year's team is settling toward an 8 - 8 season, and Campbell is getting better, and Zorn will have learned some things by the end.
- Draft one OL, one DL next year...Thomas and Kelly improve...and maybe they win 11 games.

So bringing Gibbs back and giving him free reign to run football operations was a bad decision?

Heart doesn't even begin to explain it.
All these high paid players talking every week about how they have to step it up and make plays, then go out on Sundays and don't.
No O or D in the 1st quarter.
Horrible management of time outs and poor play calling at the end of the 2nd quarter.
And nothing but an 87 yrd kick return by Cartwright and all for nothing.
I'm not even sure why they bothered coming back out for the second half. What a pathetic and putrid season.

"Fortune Favors The Bold"
A small example of what really irks me about this team was Suisham kicking the ball out of bounds ... AGAIN ... and the little chat he had with Danny Smith and the aw shucks look on his face. I want to see Suisham cursing up a storm and kicking everything in sight while Smith (who needs to be fired) reads him the riot act. I mean that to happen even once is inexcusable and this is, what, at least the third time he's done that?

I did not watch the game, was anyone laughing it up on the sidelines in the closing minutes like last week against Baltimore?
Bruce has the authority. When Bruce makes the decision, it's a Redskins decision.

Gibbs made it to the playoffs twice, which was good, but this was an entirely different NFL than when Gibbs left it. So in the final analysis, no, it wasn't a really bad decision, and that is why I said Snyder has made bad decisions overall, I didn't say all of his decisions have been bad ones.
Do you think hiring Spurrier was a good decision? Do you think firing Norv in the middle of a playoff run was a good decision? Do you think hiring coordinators BEFORE your head coach was a good decsion?
