Smoot is miffed too..

Post by Chris Luva Luva »

Fred Smoot isn’t happy. He embraced the arrival of the new cornerback, knowing it might cut into his time a little bit. But, Sunday night, it did more than that.

Smoot played approximately 15 snaps as the Redskins rarely went to their nickel package because Baltimore didn’t use many three-receiver sets. And the Redskins (7-6) also ran a five-linemen package on at least 10 occasions in the 24-10 loss.

Smoot has to understand one thing... He's not that good. He's the worst CB we have. And this is coming from a Smoot fan... I thought that when he came back, he'd make int's like he used to and he hasn't.

Hall has made more of an impact than everyone else combined... If you shine, you get game-time.

Agreed! Good luck with the Smoot Smack bars amigo, you're not the starter anymore.

So it's OK for the coaching staff to limit Smoot's time because the Ravens ran more i.e. the game dictated it and they felt D.Hall was better prepared...but it's wrong to do the same thing with Portis :hmm:

His lack of playing time had NOTHING to do with preperation. Before signing Hall, Smoot filled in for Springs when he was out. With Hall intercepting passes and locking down WR's, he's been moved ahead of Smoot on the depth chart.

I don't see how this is similar at all.

For me it's that the way the game went it dictated who JZ and the staff wanted on the field...I see your point though.

This team is completely falling apart, and as usual, the fan base is following suit.

Just a few weeks back, some folks were talking about a legitimate playoff run. Now, players are sniping at the coaches, the coaches are making inexplicable personnel decisions, and everything is out of wack.

If the Ravens had went with a 3WR set, they would have put Smoot on the field. He's miffed because he has a sense of entitlement. He and Rogers were already kinda salty when Hall was brought in. Now I'm sure as hell they're really mad because he's outplaying them in such a short amount of time. Heck, QB's are already avoiding throwing to Hall. This is nothing more than a case of envy. Too bad, so sad to Smoot.

Smoot has been solid for us this year but he has to understand that this is a business. If say Chris Paul became free like Hall did and the Wizards had a chance to get him, they should get him despite having Gil. It makes sense to have a talent like that. So Gil would move more to shooting guard. So Smoot moved down a little bit. He should be lucky to still have a job. Then not to mention, his role will be bigger because Springs is done.

It's this simple.

Produce and you'll be a starter. Fail and get smoked by grandpa Toomer early in the game and you're benched.

Jansen won his job back....so could Smoot if he'd just play better.

Smoot is ALL mouth, and no show.
Signing D Hall was the only bright spot in our season, and now he's probably wishing he had have gone elsewhere.

Smoot was smoked on that TD.

Hall actually IS doing more than the rest of our corners. He's catching balls. He's making QBs think twice.

Why is he surprised? He lost his starting gig due to 2 reasons. (1) Deangelo's play (seriously, you've got to get the guy on the field) (2) getting beat by Amani Toomer for the 1st TD of the game two weeks ago. He lost his spot on that play.

I agree with an earlier post, too. Deangelo is the only bright spot of this season as far as personnel moves. I haven't seen him beat or out of position since he joined the Skins. Which is saying something for a guy who had been beaten the 3rd most times in the NFL prior to coming over.

Every corner gets beat sometimes.

Carlos got beat big time against the ravens for a long TD. Should he be benched also?

Though I agree Hall is playing better and deserves the spot. I have always been a Smoot fan, and I can see why he would be pist. He lost his starting job.

He was drafted here. Went to Min and didn't do good. Skins welcomed him back and never doughted his skills. Then he gets benched by a guy who gets beat by T.O. and Romo throws the ball way behind T.O. and Hall just happended to be there. That one should not count, when compairing Hall and Smoot. Because Hall was beat and out of place on that play.

Remember when Springs ran into Hall and made him drop the INT. Everyone blams Springs on that play, but no one is asking why a cover corner, is back in the saftey position all alone on that play. Could the WR done a come back route and left Hall running down field? He might have been way out of position on that play as well.

In today's NFL, the traditional notion of having 2 Starting Corners is outdated. With as many 3, 4, & 5 WR sets. And, the evolution of the TE position each team needs 3 starting Corners.

Smoot is our 3rd starting corner. Baltimore is one of few teams that still runs an old school offense with 2 Wrs, so I don't see what the fuss is about.
SPIT HAPPENS!!

I just reread my posts, and I didn't say anything about anyoen getting benched. I said Hall is our best CB atm. When someone moves up, someone else moves down. Simple to comprehend, really.

is there a play off power poll available for viewing we finish with 10 wins and there will be nickle to play and to win means to have great defense, soooo we need smoot and I think that he is a great tackler too hey he runs so well with these recievers that a littke pressure will get him a pick. or hall, and carlos is solid, #30 is becoming a ball hawk and the fact remains that smooooooot is part of a great group of people and the dbs will be fine.
I love watching and waiting to see what the hecks going on.

Agreed Smoot's a decent nickle back, we need him for depth.. He may not like it but Hall's a better cover man. Hall seems to have a "nose" for the ball, and doesn't drop interceptions like Rodgers does...

That's just crazy talk. Carlos got smoked against the Giants non-stop. He couldn't cover Hixson. When we rolled the safety over to give him help so he could press cover him, Smoot got beat deep for a TD. If your players don't make plays to allow you play the defense the way you want to then you have to make changes. Name one time since Hall ahas been a Skin that he's been beat long? Granted Smoot has been playing great, and he's a great nickel option, but you have to get Hall on the field.

As far as who's playing better Hall or Carlos. I have one stat that tells the whole story. Since Hall came over to the Skins, he has 3 takeaways in 4 games.

In addition, he uses him hands for catching. Unlike Carlos, whose sole use for his hands is to make sure his watch doesn't slide off his wrist.
