Gibbs4Life wrote:Watching the Ravens game... things that stands out
(oline)Jason's first INT; Terrell Suggs treats Chris Samuels like a red headed step child and gets to the ball while Jason is throwing...IS SAMUELS DONE?
(dline) Second thing: Ravens first td, after a crossing route to Mason, the just plow right through the middle of our line with a FB McClain, #55 #96 #94 got blown up and Fletch went wide left to cover McGehee.
(oline) second posession, 3rd down and 6, ravens give exotic look like they're blitzing 6, they only send 4 and they get to campell
Third posession: MY DADS FAVORITE NFL RULE QUOTE: "The Ground Cannot Force A Fumble" He says it all the time, watching this play where portis suppossedly "fumbles" I can tell if the game was in Fedex it would be ruled down but because we had some homer refs the turf was allowed to force a fumble, yes ed reed swiped at it, but the ball was secure in CP's arm until his elbow hit the ground. THATS A BS CALL!
Cartwright hears whistle Still Going! Fourth posession run right stuffed, run left stuffed, 3rd and 9, ravens send 6 Jason NICE AVOID RESET THROW to devin thomas first down! Jason took it on the chin from ray ray, //// run right, stuffed, 8 yrd pass to moss, nice throw, Swing to sellers the hurtle! Delay of GAME? on first down?! then a timeout wow. 2nd down illegal shift two men moving prior to the snap did not reset. And on third down they overload the left and samuels and Sellers get abused on the way to 17
The first quarter told the story... 1.Suggs Beats Samuels 2.Dline is knifed through the middle by a FB 3.Oline can't stop a 4 man rush 4.Refs hose us for a td 5. We move the ball well then the left side of our line gets overloaded and Jason still takes 7 step drop and gets jacked up.
Sorry your dad is wrong it was a fumble and yes the ground can cause a fumble!

I thought the ground could not cause a fumble. If your in control of the ball and your elbow hits but the ball squirts out after contact with the ground, that's not a fumble... but if you don't have control of the ball before the elbow hits and it comes out, that is a fumble? Right?

What if you hit the ground as a result of falling...not being tackled...

That would be a fumble because you are not being downed by the opposing player.
So only when you're being tackled can the ground not cause a fumble.
Sure it can. If you're being tackled and you are holding the ball in your hand it could hit the ground w/o your knees, back or elbows hitting the ground and it's a fumble.
The "ground can't cause a fumble" is a reference to that when you hit the ground and are down and immediately fumble it isn't. The ground can cause a fumble when you're not down.

Did anyone see the last interception when Reed went down and no one touched him. ARE ran up and snagged the ball while he was holding it up and they called the play dead. I thought that should've been legal.
On one of the sacks, JC actually fumbled before he was down and that would've been Ravens ball if they challenged, 6 if the refs called it right.

I did see it. Did you see the Ref announce on the intercom after the play that since the whistle blew it was not reviewable?

When you slide you're considered "down"

OK, granted the quote had two situations in it. But I was referring to the other one. I should have cut out the other one.

I believe the "slide rule" was implemented for quarterbacks only, can't find anything on it though.

the ball needs to leave the players body because the ground causes the fumble. or it is still being cradeled and as long as a running back can'tswitch hands after taking posession of the handoff then they could not carry the ball in the preffered hand, because they could not switch.
or they may trip in the middle of switching the ball get touched on the way down on the arm never losing the football from the body and arm or hand, because the body and the hand is what they switch the football with , so that when they land the ball is removed from the cradeled position and fumbled.....
when reed pulled the ball it moved, so that, clinton who was falling to his back had his arm under neath it. the ball never was removed from the runner, until the ground caused the ball to pop up from his body, so as long as the ball was pulled or pushed by the defense and never seperated from the ruuner until the ground moved the ball fom the runner then the runner was holding a football that had moved but was never seperated until the ground caused it to be seperated . THEREFORE TO CONTROL A BALL WHILE RUNNING IT AND THEN TO HAVE IT DISLODGED AWAY FROM THE RUNNER WHEN HE HIT THE GROUND IS NOT A FUMBLE.
IF PORTIS WAS MAKING A RECEPTION THEN OKAY HE NEVER MAINTAINED CONTROL OF THE FOOTBALL BUT ATLEAST REED ALMOST FORCED A FUMBLED.
I love watching and waiting to see what the hecks going on.
god blessed us with # 59 ... go skins

Can the ground cause a fumble if you slide?
HMMMM...My guess it would default to being down or not.
Speaking of the ground causing a fumble it happened in the game the Ravens running back fumbled but it was overtunrned by a (stupid IMO) challege by Zorn...he gain 4 yards. He's lucky there wasn't a close play on that drive before the 2 min mark!!

he's not and won't be, so we won't be good
By Portis playing 5 weeks ago against the Steelers set this freefall in motion. If he would have taken the week to rest, he would have been at full strength for these games. Instead, he hasn't practiced for 5 weeks, and we expect the team to play in a rythem. I agree with the call to bench him tonight. Should have been done long ago.
Exactly, Portis should have sat out that game and been 100% for the following games. It's selfishness.
Jason Taylor did the same thing earlier this season, and probably cost us the game. There is no "I" in team.
