Shawn Springs re-injured his calf during Sunday’s game and his status is day to day, Jim Zorn said.
Springs has missed five games this season due to the injury, which he suffered before the Redskins’ season opener.
“It keeps him from allowing him to burst,” Zorn said. “It continues to re-occur, so it doesn’t have the strength and stamina that he needs--and we need--for him to be out there.”
Springs has 24 tackles, one sack and one interception this season.
I don't believe Springs will be wearing a Redskins uniform next season. He has an expensive contract and he's missed far too many games over the past few seasons, due to endless injuries, to sustain such a large contract or to simply retain his services. And I doubt he'll restructure his contract, based on the recent history of his unwillingness to renegotiate. The addition of Hall, who has in just three games, already made an impact with two INT's, makes Springs expendable.

I agree with you. I like him when he's healthy, but those days are few and far between. I wish him well, but I don't think he can be an asset to the team anymore.

The National Anthem sucks.
What a useless piece of propagandist rhetoric that is.
Like I said in some other thread, Hall will be our #1 DB next year. He will get paid before Rogers. That will piss Rogers off, but he needs to get mad at his hands. Smoot will be jealous but he's proven to be no more than a #2 DB at best. He's best in the slot.
Springs will be forced to take a pay cut. He will be back.

I don't think he will be back. We have two starters and Smoot who can fill in. We need a good dime back for next year. It would be nice to retain Springs for nickel/dime/safety, but I don't see him taking a paycut and in his current fragile state (looking at hte past two years), I seriously don't see paying him the money he's contractually obligated next year.

Agreed. His age, proneness to injury and the money he'll demand will most likely get him a pink slip. He may reconsider his stubbornness to redo his contract, but I find it hard to see that the Skins will extend him a contract of any size due to the amount of games missed for endless injuries.
3/3/2004: Signed a six-year, $30 million contract. The deal included a $10 million signing bonus. 2008: $5 million, 2009: $6 million, 2010: Free Agent. Cap charges: $7.475 million (2008), $8.475 million (2009).

I certainly agree the odds are he won't be back. If I understand his contract right, and admittedly in that regard I'm no 1niksder, we can cut him for under $2M in cap since he's going into the last year. The only way I see him staying is since he's a DC area native if he doesn't get much interest in the market, doesn't want to retire yet and is willing to play for a far, far lower salary. I love his skills when he's healthy, he's just healthy so rarely anymore we can't tie up cap in him. I think that's why we wanted Hall here and why he came anyway.

Maybe he'll come to his senses. Hall's signing (and performance so far) should be the writing on the wall for Springs. I'd love to have him retire a Redskin, providing he's smart about it.

Teeter, what happened was Shawn didn't see #23 but only the 2 portion of it and he thought it was Los (#22) that was gonna catch it.. which Shawn and us for that matter knows damn well Los would've dropped it. Had he noticed it was Hall he would've ran in front of him to block for him instead.
They should get something done with Hall as soon as possible! If its feasible to re-do Rogers' deal at the same time, go for it. It would be really nice to have that position locked up for a while.

Springs career is in the latter stage. I think he would consider restructuring. No guarantees but I think he would consider it.
Hall is the obvious choice for starter next year, barring any unforeseen events.
I am sure he wants to win a Super Bowl before he retires. With that in mind what better way to go out then with the team he has spent the last four years with?
I agree. It doesn't seem likely that Springs will be with the Redskins next year. It's a shame that he's hurt again because that 4-headed CB monster of Rogers, Smoot, Hall, and Springs looks excellent on paper. Too bad.
If anything I see Springs taking a pay cut and moving to a safety position.
Otherwise, yeah I think he's gone. Most likely to the Raiders since Al Davis would be the only one dumb enough to pay him what he thinks he's worth.
I can't remember the last time I saw him complete a full season without being dogged by injuries and missing nearly half the games.
He has practically dared the Redskins to cut him each year when they ask him to restructure and I think this year they'll take him up on it.
I hate to see it happen to the guy with what he is still going through with his dad and all, but there comes a time where the team has to move on; with or without him.

This makes me think he'll go to Dallas. They'll need him more and will be willing to pay him more. Plus his bestfriend is there.
