There was no way a dinged Portis was going to run against the Giants today--not with the huge gap in talent between our anemic OL and their terrific DL. What happened was predictable. It was also clear we weren't going to succeed passing with Campbell holding onto the ball too long, our miserable line blocking, and ARE and Thrash as WR's.

I took shots for saying this before the game but I'll say it again now: We should have had Portis on the bench recovering for next week and used Collins to throw to Moss, ey, Kelly, Thomas, Sellers, and Betts on a whole batch of tricky stuff. Zorn should have stepped up. Misdirection was the only direction, today.

Portis looks further damaged to me. If so, goodbye playoffs.

You're right, Portis should have stayed on the sidelines.
As for the playoffs.....we aren't worthy and even if we did eek in, we'd get blown out in the first round. Let a team WAY better then us get into the playoffs. At least they have a chance.

I think just like the first game we were outcoached again on both sides of the ball. Blache came in thinking they would run 1000 times and they came out passing.

We did not do anything new on offense other then the reverse...and guess what it was a touchdown. Yes a gadget play but if it worked we need more, you gotta do what you can do to score and win games.

JCam is not reading the defense and picking the right targets at the right time and our receivers are not getting much separation because the opposing teams know what routes we are going to run.

I thought our oline didn't do a bad job today and protected decent enough but sometimes Campbell has to roll out to give himself more time and room to pass the ball.

I'm done with the Redskins players talking about playing medium we need to play with some urgency every drive. Playing medium has gotten us average or below play while the other team is playing with urgency to win the game.

You cannot blame the defense for allowing 23 points to a team that is averaging 30 points per game all year, when your offense is as pathetic as ours. 3 and out, 3 and out, 6 and out, 5 and out, 4 and out, 3 and out, and so forth. So why not direct the criticism where it belongs, because even if the defense held the Giants to 8 points, we still would have lost.

We're right back to square one, the same place we've been time and again. Be it Al Saunders or Jim Zorn's offense, Jason Campbell is not a play maker. Sure, blame the game on three dropped passes, or not being able to sack Manning 5 times, but YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BEAT GOOD TEAMS WITH 7 POINTS.

Throwing short to ARE when he has double coverage beat deep.....throwing into triple coverage to CC (there has got to be someone open when your freaking TE has three defenders hanging on him ) to the dirt balls on a simple slant, to throwing short 4 yarders on 3rd and 12, this clown HAS GOT TO GO. He is T. Jackson (benched) K. Boller (benched) V. Young (benched). He is the worst QB of the division of Manning, Romo, McNabb, and the Redskins are going to continue to bring up the rear offensively as long as this incompetence at QB continues.

It's not good enough to have flashes. It's not acceptable to throw 3 TD passes in 7 games.

Campbell is a loser, and so is the Redskin offense with this clown driving the bus.

Crazyhorse: Portis of course should have played if he said he was ready to play. You HAVE to trust your players (your best one in this case). If you lose that, you've lost the locker room. No case in sitting him.

Having said that, this team is one BIG question mark each and every week. What team will show up? Scizophrenic I tell you. And exasperating.

I agree the OL needs to be upgraged along with other positions, but you can't blame all of JC's lack of production or play on the OL. He holds the ball to long and still has a slow release. We can not continue to to use the new system excuse for the lack of scoring/production. There are two rookies that seem to getting the job done in Baltimore and Atlanta that are playing in new systems with less pro experience. JC needs to have an all-pro OL to be good (difficult with a salary cap and free agency) or he will be average at best. There were open receivers downfield today when he threw short and had time. Mark Rypien and Doug Williams were the same type of QB's, but had a superior OL blocking for them. Mark Rypien rarely got his pants dirty in 91/92. A QB with a quick release and good pocket awareness makes the OL better. We will need to draft a LT (high) and through free agency or the draft find a RT and G for JC to be successful as the current group is either injury prone or just old.

Hands down the 3 most annoying plays of this game were:

to me it was anytime the Giants faced 3rd down....seemed like they made it all day.

You are singing my song! I was saying this all day. To me, 3rd down is THE most important down in football. On defense, it sets the tone, and on offense it can be a moral breaker for the opposing defense.

If the receivers don't know how to run past the marker then i guess its execution.but i would think zorn has a hand in it.

These 2 rookies don't have to just learn a new system, they have to learn a new game along with that and they are both having a better year than Jason. Stat wise, Heck, even Shaun Hill has almost the same amount of TD passes as JC and Hill has only played 4 or 5 games this year! I am trying my best to keep faith with Jason but a part of me is also starting to beleive that JC is nothing but an average QB...

I am starting to doubt JC myself especially since he is due for an extension and if he does not work out we'd be stuck with him. But more of a problem to me is the lack of heart this team has - Portis, Sellers, ey - notwithstanding. To have a game, at home versus one of your biggest rivals and induct a fallen teamate into the Ring of Honor and come out and score 7 points (on a trick play no less) is just inexcusable. Couple this with the fact that you're playing a team who will have at least two of its best players arrested tomorrow and that team played with heart? I can take losing but I can't stand a lack of heart.

One other thing and I hate to admit it but Eli is damn good.

I know our defense is not even close to perfect, but I've seen teams with worse defenses than our's win SBs. Even with the problems we have on D, they're still good enough to keep the opponent from scoring so many points that even a mediocre offense would give us a good chance of winning many of the games we're currently losing. You don't see our D giving up many 30s, or even high 20s points per game. Most of the time they only allow low 20s or even teens. That's a pretty good D in my book. Is it unreasonable to expect our offense to score in the 30s or even the high 20s once in a while? Heck, even crappy teams do it on occasion. Not the Redskins. In fact if anything, they haven't even been scoring in the teens lately, so I'd say this offense has regressed instead of progressed. Here's what needs to happen in order for our offense to start producing. It starts with the O line. One like the Giants have would be preferable. Then we need receivers who can run routes to get open and actually catch the ball. They aren't much good if they can't catch. We need a QB who can read Ds faster and has a quicker release. He holds onto the ball way too long. Lastly, we need a kicker. Squeezem sucks. He misses way too many easy FGs and his kick-offs are way too short. Being able to generate a pass rush on D and having safeties and corners who can catch would also help tremendously. I don't know how many INTs we could've had this year if our secondary could catch. Until these changes occur, we are going to see the same type of play game after game, year after year.

One other thing and I hate to admit it but Eli is damn good.

Eli has an OL. Jason does not.

We knew we needed help on offense at the OL and on defense inside at the DT positions. They should have brought in free agents at those positions. EVERYBODY except the Front Office agreed with this asessment.

It is VERY difficult to win games when they are lost in the trenches. Redskin football has ALWAYS been about dominating in the trenches on offesne and on defense. We are losing the battles in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

Hey guys, REMEMBER, we had NO EXPECTATIONS of success for this season. PLEASE do not start asking for the head of Zorn. He will be a GREAT coach. Consider the fact that Zorn has to win in spite of the collective "efforts" of the "Front Office".

Doc Walker (a man whose opinion I increasingly admire) said a big chunk of this game came down to two drops (Randle-E -- no shocker there -- and Kelly) and I agree. It's not THE reason for anything but man did they ever come at bad times.
