I truly believe that Iffy has the right to keep his number although Portis is a good pick up. The reason being, Iffy has worked hard for everything given to him since he has been here with the redskins and for him to just up and give it up because we get a good running back is not a good idea. I like Clinton Portis but he should really just focus on running the ball and collecting that new paycheck.

The first player that acquired the number should have first rights to the number, in my opinion. If Ohalete really wants to keep it, he should be able to do so.
With the contract he signed, I think Portis can afford to find a new number...if need be.

Iffy definitely deserves the number. I think if you have the number longer, regardless of how long a certain player has been on a team (Portis---2 months officially and Iffy--- almost 3 years). Iffy has shown a lot of pride in the fact that he can't be bought. I think another reason he won't give up the number to Portis is that if he does, Chad will be pissed!
As you all know, Chad tried to get the number from Iffy last year.

Iffy is called Iffy for a good reason - he's iffy on almost every play. The hardest hit he landed last season was on a Redskin - actually trying to make a tackle. Seriously, he should have given up the number immediately - and shown he's a team player. If he's cut, as he should be - no other team is going to break their necks picking him up. He can wear whatever number he wants playing in Arena league or bowling with his buddies. Portis should wear whatever number he wants - including 44 :0)
Iffy
Hey, if you want to talk about "iffy" safeties, I'll mention Stanley Richard, now there was an iffy tackler. Our Iffy and Bowen are both good, young, talented and with potential. Can't blame Portis for trying, but after Iffy says "No" for the third time, he needs to just pick another number and get on with playing football. and I think he will soon. Maybe he could pick #24 so all those people with Champ jerseys can keep on wearing them!!!

What? So Iffy should show that he's the "team player" by giving in to the whims of the new superstar in town? Since Iffy had it first, why can't he keep his number and let Portis wear whatever number he wants bowling etc. Maybe then Portis could show that he's a "team player"---which he is doing, by the by. It seems like this contraversy has died down somewhat (like this thread should have. . .I'm just making it worse now).

Springs is wearing #24
God bless our troops and Joe Gibbs.
We'll miss you, Joe.
#21 gone, but never forgotten.

The team's karma??? No way. You don't take from a Redskin that has been around longer to improve karma dude. Exactly the opposite. Iffy has that number. And I'm glad most here agree with me that he should keep it as long as he wants it! You guys forget this guy deserves a chance with a decent coach, the exact same way that Ramsey does!

Yeah, and you wouldn't want to engage Chad in a cat fight; he'd take his purse (with compact mirror, eyeshadow and all) and slap you across the head and all.
Don't hate my comment. The man is a bit pretty.

Fast as lightning, but still a little TOO pretty.
Back and better than ever!
I understand what you all are saying, but everyone here is comming in with a new start and a new chance to show something and prove something. In all the years I have played ball the starters have had first crack at the #'s offensive first. To me if you are a starter you deserve that respect. we have 30 new additions to this team and it is most likely that a good majority of them will be a starter should they not get a shot at a number because a player was here before them. That does not seem fair to me it is open competition and everyone should be starting from ground zero no matter who you are! If the player were Todd Franz or Rashad Bauman would you feel the same. I don't think so! I like iffy but come on he's been here for 3 years so what! Who is more likely to be a team captain in this year or next year Iffy or Portis. I think we all know that answer.
HAIL!!!!
I hate to mention KWII anymore, but he is asking for #80 and it is a very similar situation to Portis, where the guy who has #80 is a decent player but not necessarily a full-time starter.
—TE Kellen Winslow, Jr. wants to wear the number "80" that his father wore in San Diego, but Aaron Shea has that number. Word is the starting price was $25,000, and Winslow agreed to pay $20,000 — but not until training camp. For minicamp, Winslow wore 11.
