What, you think it's a bit premature to judge a draft based upon 7 games?

Me too.

Of course, this is the same guy who said we'd go 4-12 this season, of course.

Anybody who watched today's game...and the rest of the season for that matter has to put JT in the "Bust" column. Especially, as we may have just seen half of his Redskins career in the first 8 games of the season, or a quarter if he decides to "honor" us with another year. He was getting manhandled by the 2nd string tackle on the worst team in the NFL, never even getting close to the QB. Through 8 games, he has 9 tackles and has been a liability against the run...and that's not hyperbole.

I'll decide when I put him in the "Bust" column... it may happen, but not while he is still recovering.

He has played the last 2 games with blood leaking out of his calf muscle.

If you feel the need to put someone on bust status, try Erasmus James

Taylor played the majority of the game from the opposite side today, Im assuming to compensate for his injury

Give this team til after the bye week and see where we are, we have had the longest pre-season, toughest schedudule, 9th week bye and were 6-2.
Old guys like Taylor are doing good just to be out there right now

You can't say that Erasmus James is a bust when we pay him a minimum salary. You CAN say that Taylor is a bust when we pay him a huge salary. If he is ineffective because of his injury then he should sit until he is healthy. I'd rather have Wilson or Jackson in there to find out what they can do. Taylor gets no pressure on the QB and is a liability against the run. Maybe that will change down the stretch if he's 100% but for now I'd rather see what someone else can do.

Didnt we have to honor his contract? If were gonna pay the money, Id rather have him play than, pay him the same amount to sit the bench. We're paying James the minimum, which is still a ridiculous sum of money,to do nothing. Taylor is contributing, not as much as he could, Ill give you that, he's always been a liability against the run, we knew that going in. Lets wait til he's healthy and see what happens on the stretch run. We havent had a pass rush with our front four for a few years now, is one injured player who is up in years really going to make a difference? We dont have anyone here that wasnt here last year to look at. Anyone who works as hard as Taylor has is bound to make an impact at some point

If you want to blame someone for Taylor's lack of production blame Blache since he is the one that isn't using him properly. Taylor, at his weight, isn't a guy that should be playing with his hand down on every play, especially on the strong side. During his last few seasons with the Dolphins he spend a lot of time playing linebacker in a 3-4 defense and they moved him all over the field to take advantage of match ups. The Skins have yet to do anything creative with Taylor.

Read today an article in the Post about Taylor.

Basically he said, and I'm paraphrasing here, "I'm playing hurt and I can only move in a straight line, my injury does not allow me to move laterally or in a curve-live fashion".

Then why the heck is he playing????

My guess is that he wants to contribute and he wants to win. But what do I know...

And what if he never recovers and we've got another Archuleta on our hands? Erasmus James looked better than him today and he's just as banged up, if not more. The guy has had two substantial injuries in 8 games, this can't be good for his long term prospects...and by long term prospects, I mean the rest of the year.

The two situations are completely different:

Archuleta: The Redskins signed him in 2006 to a 6-year, $30 million deal with $10 million in guarantees. The deal made him the highest paid safety in the league at the time even though he had just shown the ability to be a relatively solid player -- nothing more. He underachieved and was shipped out of Washington after just a year to the Bears for a late-round pick.

Taylor: The Redskins traded a 2nd-round pick in 2009 and a 6th-round pick in 2010 for Taylor. He makes around $8 million this season and will make a little more next season, I believe -- he already said he'd fulfill his contract which goes through 2009. Taylor is also the active leader in career sacks among active players, not to mention the fact that the Redskins were $9 million under the cap before the trade, which made Taylor a logical replacement for the injured Daniels.

Look, it's unfortunate that Taylor isn't playing the way that every Redskins fan wants him to, but don't compare him to Archuleta. Archuleta was healthy in Washington, but he didn't play well and didn't fit into the defensive scheme. Taylor isn't even close to being 100%, but he's still giving his all each week and has still managed to contribute by tipping some passes at the line.

Should he sit out if he's not helping the team? Maybe. But the defense is playing very well right now and Taylor has at least added something to that.

The Redskins aren't hurt by the move, and while it sucks to lose a 2nd-round pick, the deal could have been much more lopsided looking at a trade like the one the Cowboys made for Roy Williams.

Hopefully Taylor can get healthy soon...

My reference to Archuleta had nothing to do with whether he was hurt or not. The book on Archuleta prior to his arrival in DC was that he was a shadow of the player that he was 2 years prior and that he had left it all out on the field with the Rams. In the NFL, it's amazing how fast players go from "best in the league" to "get him off your team as soon as possible". Be it Shaun Alexander, Priest Holmes, Whenever a team is looking to get rid of a Pro Bowl player ASAP, my radar goes up. When it's Bill Parcells, it really goes up. I think he knew that Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor were nearing the end of their elite play and, although they were going to be serviceable, were never going to be the same. My fear is that these last two injuries did nothing more than expedite JT's fall to mediocrity. I do take the point from a previous post that says that Blache is not using him correctly. I agree with this...which even bolsters my point from a previous thread stating that this was a Cerrato/Snyder superstar pick (a la Deion, Carrier, Bruce Smith, and Jeff George), rather than a bonafide need that fit into our system. I like JT, want him to be good, I just have questioned the move from Day 1.

With London Fletcher, Fred Smoot, Rock McIntosh, and Carlos Rogers playing unbelievably, I just wonder what these guys could do with a decent pass rush.

I agree that he should be on the opposite side. He was never known for stopping the run so why is he playing the strong side. He should be used the same way Demarcus Ware is used. All though this defense lines up in a 4-3 most of time. I would like to see a third down 3-4 package installed. Both Taylor and Carter can play outside linebackers on third down and long.

Still as far as QB pressure goes , this team is lacking in the sack department. The Linebackers and Secondary are playing at a very high level right now. The Defensive line is very good at stopping the run but we still need a sack specialist to step up. Overall I am happy with the team.

The Cowboys got a pro bowl receiver who is still in his prime. He has already contributed to a win in Dallas.

Lets be real we brought Jason Taylor here to get Sacks. Plain and simple he is being paid to get to the QB. We gave up a second round pick and gave him a huge salary to do one thing. Get to the QB.

I hope he gets healthy because if he already is healthy then that just sucks. I also think he should be playing the opposite side. Why are we playing him primarily on the strong side??

For one Carter did a good job on the strong side last year. Carter produced on the strong side last year. Jason Taylor has always played the weak side.

Blache has done a fantastic job this year but this move I just dont get. Carter did fine at the strong side so let Taylor play where he has always played. Taylor made the pro bowl many times playing the weak side. Really does not make any sense.

Any time I've paid attention, Carter played weak side last year; Daniels played strong. In 3rd down packages, Daniels moved inside to DT and then Washington was on the strong end.
...any given Sunday....

We've been through this charade before. Guys don't magically suck when they step into the B&G. There's a reason and most of the time it has something to do with the team and not the individual.

- Jason is banged up and has NOT been healthy since coming here, thats the individual aspect.

- The team aspect as that he's playing out of position at time. Maybe swapping him is getting him out of rythym.

- Another team aspect is that we aren't getting a rush from our DT's and making teams pay for chipping/doubling him.

The only thing I see changing is him healing... That'd go a long way to him improving.

I'm with Chris. Give the guy at least a full season before you call him a bust. He is playing hurt and out of his normal spot. Noone's gashing us for big runs, so I say no he isn't a bust thus far.

I don't see how anyone can say he's not contributing, again yesterday i saw him knock down a pass and cause some disruption. We'd all like for him to have 10 sacks by now but because he doesn't hardly seems like an argument to say he hasn't contributed. Even when not healthy he has disrupted several plays for the opposing offenses. I'd like to see them give him a couple weeks rest or whatever it takes so we have him at full strength. Perhaps sit him out this week and then the bye will be enough. I'm still counting on JT to help us when it matters most!

well, it looks like he'll be out for a while... Another surgery on his leg. I hope he gets healthy, put this season on hold big guy, heal and get better first.

"Redskins coach Jim Zorn confirmed in his Monday press conference that defensive end Jason Taylor underwent a second procedure on his injured leg on Monday, and is unlikely to play in the Redskins’ next game (next Monday night against the Steelers)."

Doesn't bother me one bit. He looked horrid yesterday. I'm not saying he played bad but he didn't look himself, he looked slow and was moving gingerly. Keep him out until he's healed.
