Springs always seems to be hurt these days. I surely hope we address CB in the next off-season. Smoot is hurt a lot as well. This is the first I've heard of Rogers injury; it must not be that bad.
...any given Sunday....
RIP #21 Sean Taylor. You will be loved and adored by Redskins fans forever!!!!!

What a useless piece of propagandist rhetoric that is.

It's been stated numerous times that his weakness is the quick, agile DEs coming around hte end. I still think he's a better RT than Heyer due to his contribution to the run game, which is what we're relying most heavily on. If Heyer was a solid book end, I'd say put Jansen back on the bench, but Heyer's not anywhere near where I believe his peak is and I believe Jansen's still the best option.

I have to disagree. He's been terrible in pass protection. Whether it's been "communication" problems or completely missing a guy as he runs around him. He has been a better run blocker, but Heyer's not bad there either. But JC has had to side-step Jansen's man so many times the past 3 weeks, I think that hurts the offense more than his run blocking helps it...

-Well, Zorn did state that the pass blocking was out of wack last week and it wasn't all on Jansen. People were picking up men they weren't supposed to, etc. It was a group failure.
-Jason still holds onto the ball a bit too much and did so last week.
-Jansen isn't as agile as he used to be but he's far from terrible.
You're focusing way too much on Jansen for issues that aren't entirely his fault. I think of the play where you see Jansens man sack Jason Campbell and you automatically think it's his fault. When they replayed it, you could see the RB blocking the wrong person. Jon was to slide inside and let the DE get picked up by the RB. But most people only see Jon making contact and then sliding off to another man and his intial man running free to the QB.

Vinny Cerrato on his radio show said that Portis, Horton, Taylor and Rogers will all play. He said that Smoot is 50-50 to play and that Springs is the furthest away from playing. He did not mention Samuels, but I assume he will play also. He said that with some of those guys that they have been held out as a precautionary measure.
I sure hope Springs plays along with everyone else. I have accepted the fact that Smoot is probably out.

According to Vinny, yes Springs has less of a chance then playing then Smoot. It will be interesting to see who practices today in full, limited and not at all. I am very worried about Sunday. It is ridiculous how are whole secondary is dinged up.
Springs has already missed 3 games and got hurt in the 3rd quarter of the Dallas game. It makes me so frustrated. When he is on the field he is a shutdown corner. Why cant this guy stay healthy? Given his age and fragile status I do not think that Springs should ever practice.

Heyer is NOT good at run-blocking. His pad level is too high so he rarely moves his man off his spot. He's also not good in space. He's better at pass pro than JJ because he has quicker feet, but there's a reason CP has busted out these past 3 games in rushing yardage.
Go back and look at the play-by-play of the first 3 games, and tell me how many yds CP got going to the right.

I know what you mean, especially when Sellers picked up the end instead of the blitzer (although it looked like the end was going to beat Jansen anyway so maybe that's why Sellers did it) but those seem to be happening a lot on that side of the line... like the first offensive play in the Dallas game, when Jansen double teamed the inside guy while 2 blitzers came free and Portis could only pick up one guy... maybe that also was a communication or scheme problem, but it wasn't disguised and it didn't make sense what Jansen did... that should have been an easy adjustment.
Whatever the reason, there's been a lot of protection issues there... hopefully everyone's on the same page this week...

Wow. The thought of Torrence being the other starting CB is pretty scary. If Springs and Smoot are both out, who is the nickel CB, Tryon?

After cornerback Shawn Springs (calf) sat out practice yesterday, Redskins Coach Jim Zorn said Springs would be a game-time decision Sunday against the Cleveland Browns at FedEx Field.
"He couldn't practice today because he had some tightness in his calf," Zorn said of Springs, who participated fully in practice Thursday. "That'll be a game-time deal. He says he wants to play, I don't know if he'll be fit to play, but we'll see."
With the exception of Springs, the Redskins had full participation in practice, Zorn said.
Running back Clinton Portis (hip), tackle Chris Samuels (ankle), safety Chris Horton (ankle), cornerback Carlos Rogers (calf), cornerback Fred Smoot (groin), linebacker Khary Campbell (calf), guard Pete Kendall (knee) and defensive end Jason Taylor (calf) are expected to play against the Browns.
"I watched those guys move around, and I felt like they moved around pretty good," Zorn said. "Now, there's some tenderness there that we've got to watch. But we've still got two more days to rest and get treatment."

I hope we sit SPrings and let him get healthy, it's so very nice having CRogers and Fsmoot on tap, not much depth but very serviceable duo, if the O dominates the clock like usual, they won't even need to get a breather
