If the Redskins wanted Mason, they could just take him off of the Ravens' practice squad. I didn't know if you were aware of that or not.

Practice squad players are not protected at all, so, as long as the team that signs them puts them on the active roster, they can take any PS guy they want from any team in the NFL. You can't take a guy off of someone's practice squad and put them on your own PS, but if the Redskins had wanted to bring Mason in with the injury to Betts, there was nothing to stop them from doing so.

Obviously it might not mean as much with the Skins signing Alexander today, but I just thought that I would throw out that rule for anyone that might not know it...

If you want to talk about the Alexander signing, we have a thread here:

As for Mason, doesn't look like he's going to be the one filling Betts' shoes...

Maybe he does.. But you have to realize that there is a reason why Mason isn't on any NFL team's 53-man roster right now (the same can be said about Alexander). But with Ladell hurting the Skins need depth at RB and obviously Shaun showed something in his tryout that impressed the Skins.
Pete Kendall is a MAN and a half..

I thought 'what I was saying' was fairly laid out in the post.

We didn't sign Mason off the PS, and as Hill66 astutely pointed out - neither has anyone else in the NFL.

I get that people think he has 'upside', but at the present moment, nobody in the NFL thinks there is enough to pull him over to their active roster.

What I AM saying is that people just don't seem to understand that Mason didn't disappear down some magical NFL hole... he's there for the picking if ANY team wants him - and yet there he sits...

There's a thread for thoughts on Alexander, please put your thoughts on him there:

I gotta agree with Boss and Hill. There's something more than meets the eye here. I think that Mason did show a lot of upside during the pre-season but he ended up being the odd man out, not even being offered a spot on our PS. In fact, isn't Broughton on our PS???
If you're mad at your kid, you can either raise him to be a nose tackle or send him out to play on the freeway. It's about the same. ~Bob Golic

Broughton is on our practice squad.

I was also curious as to why we didn't try to get Mason. He had a great preseason, but I understand that there were some issues with his ability to get the playbook down (correct me if I am wrong on that -- that is what I remember but may be incorrect). He is a small back, though, and it appears that JZ's offense prefers heavier backs.

There is a radio show this friday where you can ask the man directly. Feel free to call into Vinny's radio show and I'm sure he will tell you why.

No, you're wrong. Clearly, there is an NFL-wide conspiracy against Marcus Mason.
