Skins Sign Plackemeier
If you've been following the Durant Brooks thread, obviously it took a considerable turn today.
Please put your thoughts on the Redskins signing of punter Ryan Plackemeier here.

Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

I am not fan of this move, this guy has sucked and underachieved in Seattle since he was drafted by the Seahawks in 2006. He is a Ray Guy Award winner as was Brooks and he was released after just one game with Seattle this year. I do not feel he is an upgrade over Brooks. I think both Brooks and Ryan P suck. I would have rather us signed the proven veteran Josh Miller. I have a feeling we only signed Ryan P because he is young and because of the Zorn Seattle Connection.

When not the only the fans but the PLAYERS themselves welcome you to the sidelines screaming obscenities at you after a shank punt after another when the team is in the middles of darn battle, it is time to GO!!! You can only screw this team over so many times with bad field position.
The punting position has been a constant weakness this season. Nervousness for a while is fine but you cannot cost games to your team and expect to stay around.
I expect the new guy to become an improvement but not necessarily a permanent fix.

Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

and why all of a sudden is there some unwritten law that says the punter must be the holder now? Wouldnt it serve better to have like Randel El or Collins do it, just for options sake. Even if this guy is a better punter, Swishy has a new holder...... again.

Seriously we need him back. He was awesome in 04.
Since that's unfortunately not an option, Plackemeier can't be that bad.
I was happy to see someone not named Frost punting for us this season and I had supported Brooks fully until Sunday. He turned into Frost 2.0 for me unfortunately.
I was hoping we would get Jon Ryan, the punter the Pack cut for Frost. We tried to sign Ryan a couple years ago and he had a 48 yard average last season.
Edit... Just saw that Ryan is ironically on the Seahawks... damn it.

I hear we are going to put Brooks on IR rather than waive him...if I'm reading the news correctly. I wonder if this is to keep his rights as he works out the kinks for next season? I'm sure somebody probably whispered in his ear: "Take the MRI, act like you're hurt and we'll keep you around 'til next year. Nobody's going to pick you up after your performance so far."
Tom Tupa was the show also.

I'd love that. I tried to give him a chance, he's a kid out of college. But we can't sacrifice our season to do it. I'd love to let him spend a year on NFL punting and give him a shot next year. He's obviously got the skills to be an NFL punter.

He kills the ball in the absence of pressure. If he ever gets his head on straight, he is the kind of punter who can change games.

I hope so. I actually really like Brooks. No doubt his punting has sucked and cost the team, but I do hope they find a way to keep the kid around and work with him. I'm just wondering why he was good in preseaon and in practice but absolutely blew in games. Maybe the nerves got the better of him and played with his head, effectively causing a major loss in confidence. Anyway, I sure hope he gets another chance and takes advantage of it.
As far as Plackemeier is concerned, he better not suck or start shanking punts, especially after what Skins fans have just been through with Brooks.

Yes, and that's a lot different then Frost because Frost has been around plenty long to demonstrate he's NOT going to EVER get his head screwed on straight. Brooks has played 6 games, it's still TBD. There have been a lot of very good punters like every other position who didn't set the NFL on fire until they had some experience under their belt. Too bad he couldn't just come in and punt well enough to keep going, but we couldn't take the disadvantage he kept giving us anymore, I agree with those arguing that.

Happens with punters and kickers all the time... ummm... didn't David Akers wear a 'Skins uni for a bit? Kinda sucked when he was with us? Stuff happens. Got his head on straight, became a pretty good kicker...

Brooks had a very bad game against the rams. His average from that game was 41.

Don't sound like and upgrade at all. He's sounding more like a downgrade.
Plackemeier opened the 2008 season with the Buffalo Bills, and he had 11 punts for a 40.9-yard average. He was released by the Bills after Week 1.

I firmly believe the Patriots are the antichrist.
Punters
I think it's important to be a little patient with these young punters, as it will take time for them to develop the mental toughness to succeed. Remember, they are only on the field a few times a game.
With Brooks' injury, we have Plackemeier now. At least he has some more NFL experience, although not a stellar record. We are in "make- the-best-of-it" mode for the rest of the season.
Given Frost has struggled with the Packers, it is not clear that we made an incorrect decision to go with Brooks over Frost. The main issue is we don't have a proven, veteran punter at this point in the team's history.
Given we made the choice to go with a rookie punter, I hope they put Brooks on IR and work with him through the offseason to help develop him before jettisoning him. One reason could be if Plackemeier has success (he's another young punter). Another would be if Brooks just does not progress.
