Browns fan coming to the game this Sunday

Post by ColumbusDawg »

Hopefully we'll somehow take care of the Giants for you guys tonight! I'm getting ready to head over to my tailgate area right after I submit this.

Anyhow, I'm coming into town for Skins/Browns game this coming Sunday with my girlfriend (who IS a Skins fan, originally from Fairfax though she's never been to a game before) and I've got a Couple of questions:
1. Where is a SAFE place to tailgate? I know there are places in Cleveland I would NOT send opposing teams fans too, but there are others where visiting teams fans can have some fun with at most good natured ribbing going on, which I fully expect! Any tailgaters there that welcome (possibly reluctantly) other teams fans?
2. Any hotel recommendations that might still have availability? I got these tix at the last minute and would like to stay near the stadium.
3. Should I drive to the stadium or take the train (if that is possible)?

Any other suggestions greatly appreciated (other than don't show up :) )!

Thanks!

I'll buy you a beer if you guys beat NY tonight. Two if you knock Burress out for a few weeks.

I don't think you'll have any problems tailgating around Fedex. This isn't Philly! Skins fans will give you a hard time no doubt, but mostly good people out there.

Enjoy the game, and apologies in advance for whipping your team and ruining your trip. :)

You don't have anything to worry about. Skins fans are classy for the most part. The train is about a half mile away (someone will correct me if I am wrong).

I'd suggest that you look for the Hogs Net tent. That's us.

Overall, the worst Redskin fans do is tease and joke with opposing fans. Washington is definitely NOT Philadelphia or the Meadowlands.

I took my brother who is a GIants fan and we tailgated in the back of my truck. There was the fun ribbing, but nothing bad happened. I think you 2 should be cool no matter where you go at FedEx.

For the most part I agree with the rest of the fans here. Unfortunately, I want to be completely honest. There are a few fans who can get downright mean, especially when they get hammered. I have seen and heard several fans shouting obscenities at opposing fans. The worst was at my first game. This was in the 2005 season. Maybe it is just worse in a division game, but A Skins fan shouted several obscenities, including the f-- word in the face of a child of about 9-10 years of age as he walked past him. The child was wearing an Eli Manning jersey. It was truly classless, and I am sure all his father could do to keep from kicking the crap out of him, which is what I would have done. That is the only thing that makes the games unpleasant for me. I think we could all go without the language. I have been to 3 games, all division games, and will be at the Eagles game this year.

That being said, enjoy getting your butts kicked!! :D

There are always singles out there. It's hard to guarantee that there are 93,000 polite people in any setting, whether it be a football game or the pope's appearance. I think the general consensus is that it is relatively safe for the majority of the visiting fans.

I just got back from our whoopin of the Giants; can't say I expected that! Thanks for the advice everyone. I know every team has it's share of bad fans; heck, Cleveland has quite a few.

Where is the Hogs Net Tent located at? I might stop by and say hi. Based on the responses to my message, this board seems filled with classy people and I'd' like to share a beer with some of you before the game.

Thanks!

Hi ColumbusHawg

As an Aussie who has to travel a little to get to home games I have a few tips that might help

I stayed at the Comfort Inn at Fed-Ex = its about half an hour walk to the stadium, at a reasonable price. (i booked thru hotels.com)

Hogs.net tailgate in sect A75 green lot. I am sure they will be happy to see you there (especially after beating the Giants). When I went there were 2 Seahawk fans in the mob. The hogettes made a guest appearance in full regalia but I dont know if this a regular thing

Enjoy your visit but not too much ;)

I can't speak for THN but A75 is still a great place for tailgating...it's where the Hogettes TG. As for the fans this is by far and away the worst season I've witness...it's crazy because it's Skins fans on Skins fans???

We must have had secrurity in our section a dozen times???

We were down in A72 and there was a brawl in the parking lot. I plan to blog about it, but there were 8 guys jumping 1 guy, then people jumped in to try to break it up and there ended up being like four guys bleeding, one of which had to be treated by EMT's and a couple of nurses who, luckily for the one guy, were close by, before being ambulanced out to PG County Hospital. It was dispicable. I was thoroughly disgusted by it. There was a guy who tried to break it up that ended up getting pummelled in front of his kid, who was bawling. I had to explain to my 7 year old son why people act like that at a frickin' football game, why you should drink responsibly or not at all, why the guy wasn't moving, why the kids were crying, etc.

I don't hate often, but I hate those bastards for acting like Philly fans.

As far as the THN tailgate is concerned, there really isn't one this season. With BossHog being out of commission and my being overloaded at work while moving, there just wasn't any time to plan it. We'll see about putting something together later in the season or perhaps one big THN-fest Tailgate blow-out or something like that. Maybe for the Dallas game. In the meantime, as DE eluded to, the Hogettes are always friendly to Skins fan and others alike. You could do worse than to pull up your party alongside them and hang out with them a bit.

i was at the game sunday and every one seemed pretty nice and well behaved. except for these couple of guys who were standing in the ally of Section 212, they were obviously drunk and kept yellin curse words and pushing their luck with the FedEx Field Employer. besides that everything was good.

ColumbusHawg - I have been fortunate enough to enjoy the THN tailgate a couple of times and meeting some of the THN guys - a bit of an eye opener but always very friendly and seeing JansenFan with his son Jackson is a treat - sorry its not available but the conditions are apparently not right at this time

I would say that no matter where you are you are going to have a great experience and you just have to try and avoid the louts - they are everywhere these days but this stadium is not nearly as bad as a lot of others.

The FedEx experience is expensive but there is nothing like it if there is decent weather ....... and the Redskis are playing like they have been in the previous 4 games

those seats are pretty decent too
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

hey Columbus, how do you guys feel about Braylon Edwards...

I am not a Brown's fan but last night, man. He was off sides, and he comes up to the giants CB, and had a lil laugh at it. Then a few plays later he lets the ball slip thru the hands and hit his helmet, LMAO. He tore it up afterwards. I know he's a pro-bowl caliber reciever but man, your a reciever, you jump off sides, then you go up to the opposing team's CB and have a lil laugh? That must drive his coaches crazy.

He's a Jekyll/Hyde. Just like he was at Michigan; he'll make amazing catches on balls that shouldn't even be possible to be caught, then miss an easy one right through his hands. He's had a real bad case of the dropsies all this season after last years breakout. Yesterday was his first good game catching the ball, though he seems to lose concentration a lot leading to drops and dumb penalties.

Thanks again for all of the advice from everyone - feel free to chime in with any additional comments! I ended up getting a hotel that says it is about 1 mile from the stadium (Radison) so I should be able to walk there. Since I won't have a vehcile at the tailgate, hopefully I'll be able to find someone who will let us hang out with them for a little while before the game.

We too have many Browns on Browns fights along with fights with other teams fans in the lot where I tailgate at our stadium. It is really disturbing, as 90% of the people are good but the other 10% give the fans a bad name. Hopefully I'll be able to avoid those; I fully expect to get good natured verbal jabs my way, but when it gets physical and vulgar is when it crosses the line.
