Seattle misses the Z man...!!!

Post by tribeofjudah »

....and well they should...!

Steve Kelley's column in the Seattle Times this morning, which muses about how the Seahawks missed the boat by letting Jim Zorn go, might be the most positive thing that's yet been written about the Z Man. To start 4-1 is one thing, but to be the subject of "we miss you!!!!!" hosannas is something else entirely. Kelly writes:

Last year Zorn was the Seahawks' quarterbacks coach. He was Matt Hasselbeck's muse, a bundle of kinetic energy and sound coaching principles. After seven seasons as a Seahawks assistant, he was ready to become a head coach. And it could have happened here.

Instead, Zorn, a Washington outsider, has become the ultimate Beltway insider. He has won the hearts and minds of fans there, not an easy task....

Losing makes a town feel whimsical. And no city in America feels more pain and knows more about losing in 2008 than Seattle. And now losing Zorn hurts as much as losing games.

Fans there are talking about throwing more money at Zorn to bring him back after he fine tunes as an HC.... no chance, we'll keep him here.

This just cements to me how special Jim Zorn is.
"It's almost like, you play a kid's game for a king's ransom," he said. "And if you don't take it serious enough, eventually one day you're going to say, 'Oh, I could have done this, I could have done that."

Isn't it great to read how we owned another team and they're jealous of us? Heck, we haven't had a good enough team for years where anyone covets what we have. Zorn was a super pickup for us.

For all the Dan Snyder detractors, admit it, he's actually done a nice job over the past few years. I think it took him awhile to learn how to be a good owner. YOu must say, at least Danny doesn't end up on the sidelines in the 4th quarter of our games acting like a jerk, like Jerry "facelift" Jones does.

I'll admit right here -- I was wayyyy wrong about Vinny and am really glad I was wrong. I really liked the way he stood pat with our players from last year, didn't sign expensive free agents and went after a full draft. Consistency and building through the draft is key in the NFL.

Yes, and who was at that draft? Zorn himself.

Thanks for the link. That was pretty funny to see how they are obsessing over Zorn. Jeez, move on. If they think they're going to buy anything away from Little Dan, they are delusional.

We're only five games into the season, so I'm only allowing myself a subtle fist-pump at this point.

If we get through this stretch of "should win" games I will definitely start getting animated.

It really is a shame that they get so little attention being isolated out in the Pacific Northwest. They were good for a bunch of years, and hardly anybody even knew it. In the last 5-10 years they've gotten a tiny fraction of the attention that a team like Dallas has gotten, despite Seattle winning four playoff games since rejoining the NFC in 2002 to Dallas' zero playoff wins.

At any rate, now they have bled out most of their on-field and sideline talent and they are coming up on a coaching change. We'll see where they go.

Seattle is going to "buy back" Zorn from who now?

The Redskins?

ROTFALMAO

Yeah, Snyder will certainly play cheapskate and let someone outbid him for Zorn. Sure. It could happen. Not for at least the next couple of years as he's under contract.

too funny...

Nice quote here from Comcast:

Snyder gets credit, though, for spotting Zorn's potential. When Zorn speaks, he is engaging, upbeat and confident -- a surefire combination for winning over a millionaire owner in a job interview or a diverse roster of 53 athletes. And, unlike other star athletes who have struggled to make the move to coaching, Zorn feels his long path from undrafted castoff to Seattle Seahawks icon helps him identify with those in his charge.

"I always felt like I had to overachieve and just play relentless if I wanted to keep up with the good players," Zorn said. "I never looked at myself as one of these elite, top players. I felt like everything I was going to get, I had to earn. That's why I want my players, whether they're elite or not, I want them to fight to earn everything they can possibly get. That's the attitude I'm trying to bring to this team."

Thank you for the warm welcome from all of you. I did read the rules, but did I break one already with my first post? If so, let me know.

Very happy to be here. I've been lurking for a while and find this site to be a step above that "other" site in rationality and civility.

Let's get all over those Rams this week! Wish I could be there...

No rules broken. Just wanted to welcome you and made sure that you are aware of all THN has to offer.

Again, happy posting.

LMAO, good stuff, again this is why I love having Danny as the owner. Yah he sometimes buys the wrong players, and coaches it looks like. But he does BUY, he has money and not afraid to USE it. It's only a mattter of time until he gets the right combo, and it looks as if that time is now.
