I have been an ardent Durant Brooks supporter through the early part of the schedule, but, after today, the guy has got to go.

I believed coming into today that this was the biggest game on the Skins' schedule of the year. To watch how they played early in the game and the adjustments they made, I began to believe that this team was for real. When the score was 14-9, the thought came into my head that they very well may lose as a result of a punt return for a TD off another poor punt.

But great defensive and offensive adjustments again helped the Skins get and retain the lead. The Skins played well enough to keep the Eagles on a long field. In the second half after a drive stalled near mid-field, Durant had a chance to pin the Eagles deep. Durant unleashed a 29 yd punt that didn't even put them inside the 20. This was as criminal as the PR for a TD.

There were few major mistakes in this game: ARE dropping passes, Carlos and Horton not touching the receiver down, and Durant's punting. You live with the mistakes of ARE, Carlos, and Horton 'cause they consistently make plays. Durant's over the first 5 weeks nearly cost them 2 games.

Danny Smith has been one of the real good Special Teams coaches in the NFL and this performance cannot sit well with him. I would be shocked if he was the punter next week.

ST has been horrible this year. Two PR for TD in 5 weeks. Danny Smith's ST has been the weak link of the Skins.

Keep in mind, people - Brooks is also the holder on FGs. As crucial as FGs have been in the last two victories, do they really want to change the FG holder in mid-season? Can't see that happening unless Brooks really, really screws up, unless they're actively training someone else to hold right now. I say Brooks finishes the season.

I'm sure Collins in his extensive back up career has been a holder SOMEWHERE. It's also not too tough to train someone up while they look for a new punter (if that's the case). Never say never...

It sounds easy, but then, look at the Cowgirls a few years back. The holder sure mattered that time...
Re Brooks, is anyone out there that's really better? Frost got signed, right? So who is there to get? I still think Brooks stays at least for this season.

You mean the Packers?

Depends on the week. I'd take Frost over Brooks this week, but in other weeks Packers' games have reminded me of why we let him go.

Really, how many punts has Frost had returned for TDs this year? The answer is 0. On 13 punts, returners have only gotten 76 yds. Durant on the other hand has 11 punts returned for 161 yds.

Durant has produced more Fair Catches and Frost did have the ball slip through his hands for a safety, I'll give you that one.

It's really a false choice though....Frost or Brooks. It isn't like these are the last two guys available who have ever punted a football before. Where's Rohn Stark when you need him?

BTW, Frost is playing for the Packers.

Brooks is a rookie with a lot to learn. He'll get better. Frost has no upside.

It's not like there's a steep learning curve...hike ball...punt ball...

The kid has a bleak future here in my opinion.

Really? So, when you were punting for ANY pro team, what was your average hang time?

One of you who is even more of an NFL nerd than I am must have a list of possible free agent punters we could add that would be better............

My question is why I can see college and HS kickers weakly kick just as well or just a bit less as well as NFL guys, but the NFL guys still have jobs.

I don't know why not all NFL kickers get it atleast to the endzone when like a third of high school kickers can get it through the end zone.

Are we talking punters or kickers here? The pros kick from the 30, college, the 35, and HS used to be the 40, not sure if they moved it to the 35, too.

Brooks (our punter), was the Ray Guy award winner. We know he can punt. Calm down everyone; the kid will get it. I'm just glad we are good enough to let him break in on the fly.

If we are debating the quality of a rookie punter, then the team is pretty good and I'm happy.

The size of the ball has to have something to do with it, too. Not to mention the wind-up steps that high schoolers and college kickers can get away with. Not in the NFL.

Don't get rid of Brooks....

If we still have Swishy then Brooks has nothing to worry about. Swishy has burnt us in the past and is still inconsistent. He's improving though.

Why not give Brooks the same chances?
