Money or Redskins?

Post by Gibbs4Life »

I need help.

I took a look at my work schedule this week and I am scheduled 9am-6pm on sunday. That would mean missing WSH vs PHI which at this point is almost unfathomable and unacceptable.

This is my first week on the job working for Home Depot, if you knew me you'd know how ridiculous it is for me to even be working there since I know zilch about that junk but they offered good $ per hr so I said ok, anyway I have to figure out what to do and here are the factors...

1. I don't miss Redskins games, I can't remember the last one I missed
and we're talking in years.

2. I make about 90 dollars a day and I could really really use the $$

3. I doubt I'll be at Home Depot long, I'll be Skins fan for life.

What's the right move?

DVR.

This is what I plan on doing. I go in at 4pm, but may go in earlier. Trick is to avoid all media/discussions about the game till you get home to watch the Skins whup the iggles ass.

Work is always more important than football. You run the risk of creating bad karma for yourself and your future jobs which may be more satisfactory to you. Go to work.

If it is your first week, your best bet is to go to work. Especially if you need money

You're exactly right. Jobs are temporary, being a Redskins fan is for life.

Go to work, the Redskins will still be here.

Lose your job and you may find it hard to find another one, miss this week's game and there will still be 11 more before this season is over.

Only an idiot would think you are less of a fan because you had "responsibilities."

Do you have DVR? How about a VCR? A friend with either? Seems like catching the Redskins game wouldn't be as hard as trying to explain yourself if you skipped work.

Good advice from everyone - go to work, because your job has to come first (especially in this economy). Heck, I already missed the Saints game because I was on a train heading to Newark for my job. I wasn't happy about it (both missing the game and going to Newark!), but that's life. There will be other games.

Skip work, get a case of beer, invite a few friends over and watch the game. Move in with your Mom and Dad if you have to. Priorities, it's all about priorities.

Just get another job at the other Home Depot down the street. Tell them you you can't work Sunday's because you volunteer at your church, are the church youth group leader, and Sunday afternoons are when you and your youth group volunteer time to help build homes for the needy... using Home Depot products of course.

Okay, maybe going to work is the responsible thing to do... <sigh>

yeah, I hear ya about missing a game man, but you probably should go. The previously mentioned idea of recording the game and avoiding outlets or people who would divulge the score has worked for me in the past.

Go Skins!!

I have to coach a game @1 and my son plays @ 3. I will TiVo the game unfortunately our stadium announcer (as are most of the parents) is a big beagle fan and he loves to announce the scores. They all know what a big Skins fan I am… so if I don’t hear him announce the score I’ll know we are winning!! :D

Go to work!!

Gotta go to work, dude. I don't know where you live so I don't know how difficult it might be to avoid any mention of the game result should you tape/DVR it, but no matter the difficulty it can still be done. Hell, wear earplugs all day for crying out loud, and read customers' lips.

Go to work, earn the $ - Missing a game for stuff like that doesn't mean you are any less of a fan. I miss most of them being in the UK but I still love them as much as my fellow Hogs :D

The last job I worked at closed early for the Super Bowl.

I don't believe that, McDonald's never closes early.

man that sux, the right thingto do is to go to werk.... Will you be trapped at a register? or are you roaming the floor? If your at a register, just borrow a small TV and set it up. If your roaming the floor, there are outlets everywhere there, best place to set up is the cabinets section, you know where they design stuff, plug and play there and watch the game. =)

The fact that you even have to discuss the situation says you have a lot to learn.

Two of the last three Super Bowl Sundays, I've been on a plane for work. Luckily, I get some say over the times of my flights, so I was in my hotel room for the games, but still, it means I missed my brother-in-law's annual SB party, which is a great way to close out the football season. Watching the SB alone in a hotel room isn't nearly as much fun.

someone should pase this on the Eagles fan site. These morons would all gladly fall over a cliff like a bunch of lemurs than think for themselves. They'd rather lose their job to "support" thier team beacause their momma told them that they are special and they took that to mean that they have some control over the game.

Wow thanks for all the advice it seems like the general thought is go to work.

I own a tivo BUT I live in Nashville and the Fox station here is showing (get this) Paid Programming. Believe that? Paid mother trucking programming instead of Washington @ Philly, I don't understand it. I think it goes back to people in the media generally either not caring or despising the Redskins. If it we're Phi @ Dal there would be no issue.

The best sounding post was call out get beer & friends and watch football but I do have that need for $. This may end up being a gameday decision, they can't fire me for being "sick". I made a $800 sale today that outta by a brother a sunday.

Can't say I was expecting the responsible response but thanks guys!

The Titans are playing opposite the game on CBS, so your local market FOX affiliate can't show the 'Skins game, hence the paid programming.
