simply ridiculous...
There are times when it worth the fine to make a point. Heyer won't have any trouble coming up with the cash... I wouldn't be surprized if it didn't magically appear out of Portis' checking account.

From the Post article:
Stephon Heyer was fined $5,000 today by the NFL for unnecessary roughness -- unnecessarily striking an opponent away from the play, according to a source with knowledge of the situation -- in the Washington Redskins' victory Sunday over the Arizona Cardinals.

Still not clear that is for the specific play he was flagged for. Sounds like they watched the tape of the game, and they could've fined him for something else. I suppose this is part of the emphasis announced the week prior against unnecessary roughness. If it was for the flagged play, I can't believe he was fined, it still doesn't even seem like a penalty for me.

It's pretty clear to me ... I mean I recognize it doesn't say that specific play but I'd be surprised if it were anything else.
RIP Sean Taylor
Glad he did it
Kudos to Heyer for sticking up for Clinton. Dockett had that coming whether it was Stephon or any teammate...
Goes to show you at least a couple of players on this year's team are playing with some pride.

That's not the point. They are emasculating the game when they start fining guys for physical play. Sweet boneless Jesus, league office -- it's FOOTBALL! A certain amount of pushing, shoving, and YES, hitting is supposed to take place.
I don't know. I remember reading John Underwood's "The Death of an American Game" years ago, in which he prophesied the eventual end of gridiron football, citing athletes who were getting progressively bigger, stronger and faster than was safe for the equipment they were using. Maybe that's what is behind these ever more ridiculous (in my mind) attempts to protect players from injury...
SB 17 - 22 - 26 - ??
I agree with the fine, sadly, it was uncalled for at that particular moment... If the guy was playing dirty, then get him back within the rhythm of the play. It looks bad and reflects on everyone in the team if the shot took place out of the play and worst of all took away points off the board. Heyer needs to learn to be a bit more "slick" about it and pop him within the play, not after when the guy wasn't even looking. This is not how we do things, at least I hope not. CP would've gotten his lick in eventually if the guy broke free and had CP "chipping" on him. Although CP's chips aren't exactly chips, they are more like KO shots LoL.

The Skins should have fined him for making such a bonehead play. Dirty...no. Stupid...yes. Why chance it? The guy was no where near the play.
A 68 yd TD was called back due to this play. Hopefully, Devin Thomas doesn't have any performance riders that have been affected by this play.
And Dockett wouldn't gone away for the rest of the game if that TD would have counted.

Wahoo clearly misses the point.
