INFO ON SOME REDSKIN UNDRAFTED FREE AGENTS

Post by SKINS#1 »

Ryan Boschetti, DL, UCLA
Position: DT
Class: Sr
School: UCLA
Conference: Pac-10
Ht., Wt.: 6'4½, 306
40 Time: 5.18
Grade: 3.18
BIO: Junior-college transfer that started the past season and one half at
UCLA. Posted career highs of 43/8/2.5 as a senior after 23/5/7 the previous
year.
POSITIVES: Wide-bodied, run defender best up the field. Plays with good
lean, pad level and flashes explosion. Gets underneath blockers and tough to
move off the point. Displays the skill to bulrush opponents up the field.
Hustles and gives good effort.
NEGATIVES: Does not play with great balance and lacks the quick change of
direction. Must develop more moves and keep blockers away.
ANALYSIS: Boschetti improved significantly as a senior becoming much more
reliable and productive. Offers growth potential and a good fit as a
run-stuffer in the NFL.
PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent

> # Rufus Brown, CB, Florida State
Position: CB
Class: Sr
School: Florida St.
Conference: ACC
Ht., Wt.: 5'9, 187
40 Time: 4.41
Grade: 3.41
BIO: Three-year starter who posted 22/1/6 as a senior after 31/2/8 the prior
season and 29/0/3 as a sophomore.
POSITIVES: Nice-sized corner that could project to several spots in the
defensive secondary. Gets off the line with solid footwork, loses nothing in
transition and displays an adequate burst to the ball. Tough, throws his
body around the field and displays good hands for the interception. Comes up
the field to support the run.
NEGATIVES: Not always properly positioned to make a play on the ball and
gets turned. Lacks recovery speed and not quick locating the pass in the
air.
ANALYSIS: Though a solid prospect, Brown has not shown great improvement the
past three seasons or always lived up to expectations. Projects as a nickel
back while some feel he is best suited for safety. At the very least his
athletic skills give him a chance to make a final roster.
PROJECTION: Early Sixth Round

> # Quinn Christensen, OL, BYU
Position: OG
Class:
School: BYU
Conference: MWC
Ht., Wt.: 6'6, 312
40 Time: 5.35
Grade: 3.34
BIO: Two-year starter that's played both guard and tackle.
POSITIVES: Smart, competitive blocker with both size and growth potential.
Patient, efficient and uses outstanding body positioning as well as blocking
angles to keep defenders from the action. Quick in his head, immediately
picks up stunts or twists and works hard. Good hand combat, strength and
adequate blocking for the run.
NEGATIVES: Not explosive off the snap or effective on the move. Gets tall
the longer he must sustain blocks.
ANALYSIS: Efficient in all aspects, Christensen plays with an excellent feel
for the game. Improved his game the past two seasons and the versatility to
be used at several spots could help him slide into the late rounds.
PROJECTION: Early Sixth Round

> # Norman Heuer, DL, Michigan
Position: DT
Class: Sr
School: Michigan
Conference: Big Ten
Ht., Wt.: 6'4, 285
40 Time: 5.13
Grade: 3
BIO: Three-year starter that posted 16/3/1 after 31/9/5 the prior year.
POSITIVES: Hard-working lineman with the frame to add bulk and strength to
his body. Quick off the snap, plays with leverage and good pad level. Gets
push up the field and competes hard to make the play.
NEGATIVES: Lacks balance, handled in one-on-one blocking situations and
neutralized at the point. Lacks speed to the flanks and the ability to
quickly close on the ball handler.
ANALYSIS: A prospect that must get bigger and stronger, Heuer must blossom
into a space eater on the inside to have a shot.
PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent

> # William Strother, LB, New Mexico
Position: OLB
Class: Sr
School: New Mexico
Conference: MWC
Ht., Wt.: 6'0, 241
40 Time: 4.68
Grade: 3.32
BIO: Posted 100/13/6 as a senior after being named MWC Defensive Newcomer of
the Year in '02 when he totaled 89/14/5.
POSITIVES: Thinly built linebacker who's made major strides the past two
years. Immediately alters his angle of attack, displays good speed to the
flanks and the ability to make plays in any direction. Takes good angles to
the action and has a burst of speed. Disciplined, stays with pass-cover
assignments and reads the quarterback.
NEGATIVES: Undersized and gets caught up in the trash moving laterally or
slow shedding blocks once engaged at the point. Not strong and has tackles
broken. May be a little aloof.
ANALYSIS: A fine athlete, Strother could be used on the outside in a
three-four defense where he is allowed to freely flow to the action or
possibly as a weak-side linebacker in a conventional system. Must start
making more plays when the ball's in the air.
PROJECTION: Late Seventh Round

> # Jafar Williams, WR, Maryland
Position: WR
Class: Sr
School: Maryland
Conference: ACC
Ht., Wt.: 6'1, 196
40 Time: 4.51
Grade: 3.09
BIO: Part-time starter the past three seasons who totaled 14/201/3 as a
senior. Started five games as a junior posting 28/562/2 after nine starts
the prior season when he registered 39/425/2.
POSITIVES: Nice-sized receiver that's displayed flashes of ability
throughout college. Extends and displays good eye-hand coordination, getting
vertical to grabs the pass out of the air. Adjusts to the errant throw or
catches the ball in stride.
NEGATIVES: Never showed much consistency in college, nor did he ever take
his game to the next level. Not a burner that stretches defenses deep.
ANALYSIS: Williams has the size and physical skill to play at the next level
but needs to pull the pieces together and show he's capable of doing it over
the long haul. A free agent that must light it up next summer to have a
chance of sticking.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping the Redskin wuold sign Jason Peters, the 330 pound tight end (I think from Arkansas). He runs a fast forty too, figured he'd be great blocker alongside the new hogs.
Touchdown, Washington Redskins...

I guess it goes without saying that he'll be converted to being an offensive lineman. That leaves a good bit of possibility for an out pattern on third and goal by the tackle.

He got snagged within an hour of the rookie free agent signing period. Not sure by whom, but I saw it on the NFL network. Might have been Carolina...
