When T.O. scored a TD today he went down in a sprinters pose and was flagged for excessive celebration.
The guys in the booth said that by touching the ground during his celebration it was a mandatory penalty.
So if a guy scores an runs around like an idiot high stepping around it's okay but if a guy quietly takes a knee in the endzone after a score it's a penalty?
Has anyone else heard of this rule?

Celebration rules?

the celebration rule in general is just stupid. its not hurting the game at all, as long as it doesnt get too out of hand. like when chad ocho cinco proposed to the cheer leader, thats when it gets crazy. but stuff portis, and steve smith even TO did were just fun and made the game a lil more entertaining. and its busch league that the team gets penalized 15 yards now for some one havin fun. they're trying to make everyone look like marvin harrison and art monk when in they really arent. just let the kids have fun IMO

Anytime you touch the ground or use the ball for a prop, its automatic. Its why my favorite celebration in now a penalty, that being when ARE ran into the goal post and slid down. Good times.

Isn't ARE's celebration grandfathered in since he only scores a TD every 3 years or so?

They also said that this celebration was based on Owens' boast that he could beat Usain Bolt in a 40 yard dash

If Owens really said that, he should be immediately tested for every perception-altering drug in existence...

Watching the Vikings-Packers game brought up this question for me: Why isn't the Lambeau Leap illegal under the celebration rules? Often it is more than one player, and it is definitely choreographed. So why the exception?
