Archuleta agrees with Raiders, to switch positions

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Archuleta agrees with Raiders, to switch positions

Adam Archuleta agreed to a one-year, $730,000 contract with the Oakland Raiders and plans to start his career anew.

Selected by the St. Louis Rams as a safety in the first round of the 2001 draft, Archuleta plans to try to make the Raiders as an outside linebacker. For more than a month, Archuleta had been talking to the Tennessee Titans about being a weakside linebacker.

Some of his best days in the NFL were in St. Louis when he played for defensive coordinator Lovie Smith, who built a defense around Archuleta's speed and play-making ability as a safety-linebacker.

At UCLA, Archuleta was a 210-pound linebacker with great speed and a great workout ethic. His hope in signing with the Raiders is resurrecting his career.

The Raiders will be his fourth stop in the NFL. He played for the Rams from 2001 through 2005. He joined the Washington Redskins in 2006, but he was traded to the Chicago Bears the next season. He played in 15 games as a Bear, starting 10 as a safety and having 61 total tackles and two sacks.

He hopes that his change in positions will spark new things for his career.

210-pound linebacker

that's extremely light for LB.

When I read the thread title, I thought I was going to read that they were trying at fullback, for some reason. I mean, it's fairly easy - run there and block that guy/any guy that gets in your way (no offense to Mike Sellers).

210? That's not what I'm hearing, I heard he spent his time this off-season buffing up and trying to salvage his career converting to linebacker. I even read somewhere he did something like 38 reps of 225 lb, and his 40 time wasn't too shabby at 4.55. Who knows, he could do well.

Maybe he'll be an OK linebacker, but it's hard to see that we someone missed the opportunity to have a good one on our roster and we weren't paying for an OK backup linebacker.

Wiki and NFL sites both have him at 215. I couldnt' get the Raiders site up this morning for some reason. That's still light for a typical LB. I'm not saying he can't get it done, but it's still light. He won't be able to run anyone over, he's got to run around them.

AA has great speed, but he has no ability to move laterally. As a weakside linebacker, that may be an issue...

What are you all smoking?

As I recall, Archumama had trouble covering AND tackling.

Oh boy, just what every team needs. A 215 lb LB that can't cover or tackle.

Perhaps the Raiders could use a 233 lb QB that can't score points too?
