TOUGH AS NAILS......

Post by tribeofjudah »

Man, Laron got smoked by Jacobs last night. It looked like whiplash, hit by a freight train. But to Landry's credit, he shook it off and came back to tackle Jacobs a few more times during the game....but was smarter by tackling low.

I hope everything is ok with LL ....we can't afford to have him playing hurt. Any know the report on Landry?

He wasn't the only one. Jacobs sent Doughty sailing three yards and spun around too. That guy is a freaking truck.

Doughty 6'1'' 209 lbs
Landry 6'2'' 213 lbs

Jacobs 6-4 264

Our safeties give up 55 and 51 lbs respectively. Jacobs is bigger than all but ONE of our DEs, and James is only 266. What else would you expect trying to go toe to toe with Jacobs ?

I have to say though, LL has guts. He knew it wasn't gonna be good, but so be it! He offered his body anyway, Helluva player. Sometimes you get the bull, sometimes the bull gets you.

That's the best part of that hit brutha, he stopped the td... *sigh*.. If dat was our fallen dude ST.. oh boy, that hit, whatever the outcome, would've been on the top 10 of all time; either for Jacobs or ST or maybe even both.

Plax would've been hurt in this game if ST was playing... Such a big target and doing curls in front of the safety... :P

When a DB tries to make a tackle downfield, only one thing matters...getting the ballcarriers to the ground. Pretty be damned. Technique goes out the window. Get him down, no matter how ugly it may look (or penalties you may get for that matter). Mission accomplished by both, but, man, that must of hurt!!!!

ST would have still given up ~40lbs... that's still a big disadvantage.

True... but ST understood how to play with leverage... he understood the mechanics of making every pound count. Jacobs would have been rocked to his soul. ST would have felt it, too, but no one would have known...

Jacobs couldn't handle ST, here's a friendly reminder.....
http://www.nypost.com/seven/10092006/sp ... hwartz.htm
Jacobs could also be seen howling at Washington safety Sean Taylor. Jacobs said after the game Taylor warned him, "You'd better protect yourself" the next time they tangled.

"He throws his whole body out there like he's got another one in the closet," Jacobs said. "I don't see myself taking one of those hits. I respect his game. The NFL needs safeties like him, the way he hits, it sets the tone. Me, myself, I'm not going to allow the tone to get set by him hitting me like that."

Sean Taylor is no longer playing free safety for the Washington Redskins.
It is time to let it go.
LaRon Landry is playing the position.
LaRon Landry made the play.
Discussion of Sean Taylor playing the position and what Sean Taylor would or would not do is now officially fantasy, not reality.
Some of us would like to stop living in the past. It's too painful reliving what could have been or what should have been in every thread.

THN put together an excellent thread dedicated to Sean Taylor for those who want to continue to relive what could have, what should have, and what might have been. This isn't it.

Now then, LaRon Landry did exactly what he is supposed to do, he made the play.
The way he made the play, he's lucky he didn't end up with a concussion or a neck injury. Landry rather obviously figured out that was a bad idea and adjusted his technique. It's good to know that someone in the Redskins secondary can adjust their tackling technique. Clearly, not every Redskins player is adept at textbook tackling.

My 2 cents

I said it in another thread, but it bears repeating. ST changes Jacobs' demeanor entirely in this game. Even before he mashed LL he was getting cocky. Slapping Marcus' helmet after the incomplete pass. Bull, bush-league stuff. Why? Because he thought he was tough.

Right. That fool would have had his head on a swivel the entire game if #21 is back there waiting for him to bust into the secondary, or even try to bounce one outside on a stretch run. Sean probably wouldn't have knocked him out, as some have said...but he most definitely would've knocked him ON HIS ASS. And that right quick -

ST changes Jacobs' demeanor entirely in this game.

Unfortunately, ST doesn't change anything anymore. It's nice to remember the good points, but we're talking about the game last Thursday, and ST wasn't in it.

You may not like it, but Taylor established the standard for toughness, and physicality, against which all future Redskins Safeties will be measured. That is a simple fact. People will continue to make the comparisons.

Your smug reply did little but minimize the valid and cogent points you made in the second half of your post.

Actually the point I was getting at in this thread about Jacobs being so tough is that he got punked every game when ST was playing. What is truly painful is reading you argue every point in every thread!
