Which Current Skins DB Could Play WR?

Post by Gibbs4Life »

Just read where one of our rivals has a certain high profile DB coming off a year long suspension whom they are planning to play as a WR. It made me wonder, obviously in a pinch we would move Cooley out to WR and use FreddyD as TE but after that which DB on the Skins roster would make the best WR?

Good gosh its amazing how many people are either panicking or making crazy inquiries right now. THE SEASON HAS NOT STARTED YET, WE HAVE NOT LOST ANYTHING THAT COUNTS. I know there's a big question mark out there about how things will turn out, giving up huge plays on D the past two weeks and a far from spectacular first team offense (not to mention a rookie coach) but please keep in mind FIRST of all that zorn's playcalling is a very mild version of what it will be in a real game. You know how we do when it comes to preseason offense. Zorn may be inexperienced but you do have to start somewhere, right? Have there not been head coaches that came from limited experience, but had the swagger, drive, and determination (not to mention new and creative ideas) to lead their team to success? I know, I know. We only have 5 wideouts! Yeah, that was a bad choice, but it doesn't mean we should immediately turn to other positions for help. Besides, when is the last time you saw the skins put 5WRs on the field? We'll use four a lot under Zorn I'm sure. But this thread should wait until AFTER the season starts, not to mention until another wideout is hurt. Maybe they were wrong about their speculation of Kelly, perhaps he will be back sooner than they thought.
There are only two teams I root for in the NFL. The Skins, and whoever is playing Dallas.

It's okay that we drafted a Landry. After this season, the crygirls will have a new association with that name.

hey man i really dont think anyone is freakin out already. its just a lil fun to think about that. no ones trying to turn Landry into a receiver ha. id have to agree that landry would probably be the best. hes the best athlete out of the bunch. plus didnt he run like a 4.3 40? thats freakin fast
R.I.P. Sean Taylor

Relax, I think this is all for fun.

I'd pick Tryon. He knows how to beat an NFL DB...

Chill Bro, I wasn't trying to make any statement on the state of our WR's. Thankfully we have 89 the great, and Antwaan (Broke hand but I'm still doing it) Randle El, James (Ol reliable) Thrash and two rookies who should get better as we go...I think we'll be fine. I really would've liked to see what Sean Taylor would have been like as a wideout, nothing short of great I'm sure. But as it is I agree with the sentiment that Landry would be the easiest to convert because of his athletic ability. I can't wait to see him LAY OUT plaxico burress on thurs. night!

lol you guys are right. Just for fun. I think I took it out of context and probably just let loose after seeing many other panicky and hopeless posts.

I'd agree, if it would be anyone, it would be Landry. He has the speed and playmaking ability to fit the bill. It'd be fun to imagine Portis lining up as a wideout as well.

LaRon Landry 1st
Leigh Torrence 2nd

Both are bigger and faster than Santana Moss. I'd line all three, Moss, Landry and Torrence on the same side and laugh at anyone trying to cover them.

Actually, such discussions aren't just for fun, and certainly aren't panicky. We only have 5 WRs on the roster right now, and two of those are already injured (Randel-el and Kelly), one's a rookie who hasn't looked so hot yet (Thomas), and one has a history of injury (Moss). That leaves Thrash as the only sure bet out of 5 WRs. At least we're pretty set at TE.

I'd have to say Fred Smoot.

We have 3 TEs that can catch the ball. Granted Yoder is our blocking TE, but he can still catch the ball when it's asked of him. That's five healthy pass catchers that we have RIGHT NOW. It's already been said that Colley will be in on some of the 3 and 4 receiver sets.
Don't forget, Thrash had a high ankle sprain the only time he was called on for any length of time, so wouldn't that dictate him to be just as injury prone as Moss? I wouldn't deem either one injury prone, I think some people like to play chicken little.
...any given Sunday....

RIP #21 Sean Taylor. You will be loved and adored by Redskins fans forever!!!!!

I know this is off subject(sort of)

Id like to Mike Sellers in a pass rush. He would be ripping off QBs heads.

And I Portis, would be killing people the way he likes to hit. Of course, he might only be able to hit one person cause he would hurt himself in the process. But still.
I firmly believe the Patriots are the antichrist.

Landry hands down. He is one of the few in the secondary that can actually catch a pass thrown in his direction.

Maybe move Thomas to CB. He sure knows how to deflect passes.

Dang! I'm still going the wrong direction, Offence to defense instead of defense to offense.

Who can catch? I know, I know...

We move Cooley to the X WR and make Davis the TE.

Oh wait that is offense to offense.

Springs can catch. And I'm sure with his experience he would know where the holes are in defenses. I would think he would have good route running skills as well only he might not have the speed now.

Smoot I think is fast enough and has good enough hands, just don't know if he is disciplined enough to run good routes.

The only other person would be Landry. Only problem is, I think he would always want to hit whoever is defending him.

Landry running route"I'm going, I'm open." Catch, " I got the ball, I'm running". Hit! Bam! "now who’s talking!" "Oh, I dropped the ball, oops I should have still been running huh? Dang".
I firmly believe the Patriots are the antichrist.

who called COOLEY??? he lined up as a wideout in our abysmal offensive performance (not his fault anyway)

Landry would be a great downfield blocking reciever, if there is such a thing... Line him up same side with moss, have moss delay his release off the line, give landry a sec to get in front, then have landry clear the way. Kinda like a screen but with a lot more speed.
#21 (36) This IS and will always be the High watermark where all new DB's are measured.
