PFW Quote on Molinaro

Post by Rayskins69 »

I found this to be an interesting quote about our sixth round pick.

"The Redskins may have got the most value in Notre Dame’s Jim Molinaro — a very athletic converted defensive lineman who made big strides last season."

6-6, 301-pound Jim Molinaro from Notre Dame

Molinaro was a defensive tackle for two seasons before switching to offensive tackle as a junior to get more playing time.

:?: He's bigger than most of our DTs :?:

Help me understand, does it make sense for a player to go from DE to OT and back to DE. I would love to see Molinaro move to DE. Does anyone think he has the talent for this position? If this happens the Grade goes up to A++

No, he is not good enough to be a D-Lineman.
I mean, he sat the bench in college as a D-Lineman cause he wasn't good enough so he definately would not make it in the NFL as a D-Lineman.

In college he wanted more playing time so they moved him to O-Line and it actually worked out.
The guy has a lot of UPSIDE, due to his size and Bugel will work on him for the next year or two and try his best to turn him into a starter.

Sporting News actually had this guy ranked a little higher than Mark Wilson (the other OT we drafted in round 5)

I stated when we drafted him that I liked this pick more than Wilson myself.

The guy only played offensive line for two seasons and managed to man the left tackle spot at Notre Dame... pretty good. he has excellent physical skills. I have been digging up some stuff on him to do an article for you guys, but you'll have to wait a day or so. :-)
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

Not to mention he made Julius Jones look good enough to get drafted in the 2nd round by the Cows...now, lets just hope that it was his blocking more than Jone's running :)

Rich, weren't we talking about sticking this guy in the DL just cause he is a HOUSE! Or was I just talking to myself again? Must have the Precious . . .

My friend's a huge ND fan. I'm sure he'll be excited to hear the Skins signed a member of the fightin'irish. I don't know much about him, but I like the name.

While it may seem like a good idea to switch him from OT to DT, I'm not sure we're THAT desperate...

I'd look at it at least - wouldn't be the first time someone switched positions in the NFL... but I think he'll probably stay at OT.

Not enough experience - even if he did switch over, it would be a TOTAL education experience... he doesn't really know any moves or tricks if he never really played the position much
