Say what you will about Gregg Williams, he still Loves the Redskins.

Williams spoke before the start of training camp about his lingering relationships in Washington, his feelings for Snyder and executive vice president Vinny Cerrato (praising both) and his desire to be a head coach again, possibly even with the Redskins.

I'm a little surprised to read that. Nice to see Williams taking the high road.

I'm not sure GW would want to stay for a new guy; Russ Grimm left Pittsburgh in a similar situation (favorite to win the job, and then left when they hired Tomlin iirc).
I wouldn't want to stay in his shoes...that's gotta sting the pride.
I believed the front office dealt with him the fairest way possible. I think he reflects that in his comments about being willing to come back someday.
I think he wanted the HC job, or his out-right release so he might find another one.
As soon as the Redskins were sure he wasn't their guy, they fired him in a manner that allowed him to pick up another job and at least be able to coach somewhere for the season.

I tend to think the issue was that GW didn't want to be told that his OC would be Jim Zorn or anyone else. I think GW wanted Al Saunders, who had already been asked to leave. I think when GW found out that Al Suanders was not an option, he decided he didn't want the job. I think GW made the decision, not DS and VC, and that is why GW says nothing but positive things about the Redskins FO.
I don't think "fired" is the correct word. I think "Released from his contractual obligations through early termination" is more accurate.

I think the media rumor mill starts these "So and So doesn't get along with So and So" rumors. I don't know for a fact, but thinking about it logically, how often would the OC and the DC speak directly to each other? Not often at all, it would seem. It would seem that the rare conversations that needed to take place between coordinators or coaching staff would go through the HC. That seeming logical, how could they not like each other? What GW probably didn't like was the way AS's offense was always leaving it on his defense to hold onto small leads. But all evidence points to that being on JG, not on AS.
I remember Buddy Ryan as DC, taking a swing at the OC for Houston, I think it was Kevin Gilbride. I'm sure in practice they confer about what is going to take place in scrimmages.
