He's not trying to win he just wants to get his starters out there for a series or two.

I can't blame him for wanting that. His offensive players need to see that his system works. Based on their performance versus the Panthers, you'd be hard pressed to believe in the offense.

Zorn stated that he wants the starters to get a drive going, a feat they were unable to accomplish last week in Carolina.

Blache on the other hand is sitting all of his starters.

I think this guy is reading a little too much into what JZ was trying to do.

No, he is reading a LOT too much into it.

I don't know what the reasoning is, but I think Mosley is right on. Jax isn't going to play their starters on Thurs, so the Skins aren't proving anything by playing either way.

Keep the starters healthy. Don't be an idiot.

He wants to get them in back in sync. Don't be surprised if Landry sees a few snaps just to get him ready for a real game.

Even if the Redskins' starters go out and hang three touchdowns on the Jaguars, it won't matter. It's high time someone finally admitted that the preseason isn't about setting any sort of tempo. It's about keeping everyone in one piece.

So far, the Redskins have come up short in that area.

:-s So the Skins are the only team to suffer some injuries in the preseason? We did lose a bunch of guys for the season, right?

I disagree that preseason "isn't about setting any sort of tempo". Much to the contrary. They called last week a "dress rehearsal" for every NFL team and it wasn't to see how they looked in their uniforms. Preseason is just as much about mental preparation as it is about physical conditioning. I think Zorn wants the offense to sustain a drive to regain their confidence heading into the season. Confidence goes a long way in any sport. Zorn never said anything about wanting to win the game.

There are so many things wrong here:

1) It's ESPN.
2) It's a blog.

I could list a dozen others but why bother? It is crystal clear Mosley didn't do any research or even read this morning's Redskins articles, such as the one I posted earlier explaining, in detail, why Zorn is playing the offensive starters, and that Blache is not playing the defensive starters. Mosley has no idea what he's talking about.

The offensive line definitely needs to be out there, all day and night until the season starts. That run blocking, and pass protection was horrific!!!

Also worth noting with anything Mosely writes about the Redskins: he is an admitted and unabashed Cowboys fan. Probably not relevant in this instance (I'm not going to bother giving ESPN the traffic) but it is worth remembering.

Zorn wont make a mistake by doing this. I think that putting our starters on both sides of the ball in for a little while after the way they played last week wouldnt be a bad thing

Sorry, don´t agree, Hero.

You play to win when it COUNTS. I.E.: See preseason records of various Gibbs SuperBowl teams.

The D had a nasty scare last week when Taylor was injured. Tho offense should do the same thing and learn from that. Keep your starters out.

There´s nothing to prove until the first snap of the Giants game.

I'll second that. HUAW

If you train half-way, you play half-way.
Read Greg Williams comments on Sean Taylor. One that stands out is that Sean was all football, all the time. He went full speed in training camp, OTA's, scrimmages, preseason games, and regular season games. I think we all agree ST played the way we would like every Redskins player to play.

My 2 cents

I must have missed the memo...when did LaRon Landry become the best player on the defense? Statistically, London Fletcher was the best player on defense. After I read that bit of information I immediately knew Mosely was full of it. It's clear this guy just read the story online and commented about it making him look less than credible.

EVERY team has gotten injuries, ask the Giants. I'm more concerned with making the offense mesh and be productive. More specifically the O-line. If the O-line doesn't function well, then NOTHING ON OFFENSE WILL. You can't get any yards on the ground, it's almost impossible to complete a pass and you have NO TEMPO NO RHYTHM. Maybe nobody remembers the glory years of the Redskins, our O-line had a nickname which some of you might be familiar with. That didn't happen by accident, they built the team through the draft (but that's for another thread).

Having the offensive starters play a series or two doesn't translate into them trying to win the game. It's about a new head coach trying to get his offense to get that bad taste out of their mouths after the "Turd Sandwich" they ate in Carolina and enter the regular season with some confidence. If they come out and play hard and take care of business, I don't think anyone will get hurt. The minute you play not to get hurt...YOU GET HURT. The keys will be INTENSITY, DETERMINATION, TEMPO and RHYTHM.

Landry is a bright, talented, young safety who will be a staple of whatever defense he's a part of. Fletcher may have had the best stats last year, but Landry has the potential to be a guy you can build your defense around.

He is a good player, I give you that. But you don't build a defense from the back to the front. You have to have a good D-line. A good D-line will make good DBs great, and great DBs hall of famers.

I guess that they DIDN'T plan around ST's strengths last year. What was I thinking :hmm:

And what would that accomplish with Jacksonville playing its second string? College teams don't play any preseason games and don't have a problem with it. The players don't need to score points against a second string defense to know whether or not the offense can work. They can see if it works or doesn't every day during practice. Just imagine if CP or Campbell get hurt during this game.

Landry will become the leader of our defense - while it might be impossible to replace a talent like Taylor, the bigger loss, in my opinion, was that we never got to see Taylor playing at his best under Landry's leadership. This guy is going to be a defensive leader - he may never be as talented a safety as Taylor but in my opinion this guy is going to end up in the HOF.

If the coaches think he or anyone needs some playing time they will do it - this game is more important for the marginal players than the starters.

mark my words - Landry is a big time player
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

And the Steelers certainly don't plan their defense around Troy Polamalu, or the Ravens around Ed Reed. Or to keep it closer to the Skins, the Eagles haven't planned their entire defense for the past 10 years around Brian Dawkins.

Nope.

I think the Ravens' defense is built around Ray Lewis, and has been for 10 years now.

From what I understand from reading the BoMo Sun (a horrible paper, unfortunately), the defense in Baltimore has shifted, and the focus has been Reed for the last couple of seasons as Lewis slowed down.

your right that fletcher did have the better stats, but landry is by far the most talented player on the D. he was plaing SS last year which limited his INTs and he was playing next to Sean Taylor which definitely took away some of the stats
