Jason Taylor Falls Down
At the risk of being laughed, has anyone noticed that JT is getting pushed around by everyone on the offensive side of the ball. Has he been told not to run at full speed?
Anyone see NYG last nite? Their defensive front seems very energized and I can see JC on his back a lot. As much as I love Randy Thomas and know what I ve seen him do, he is aslo looking awkward.lvdnTTu.idfei Thanks for readking and give me some hope for our DL front four.

Jason Taylor has more quarterback sacks than any other active player in the league. He didn't forget how to rush the passer while he was learning to dance. I suspect we won't see the real JT until the Giants game.

well, maybe what he said...but I have noticed that our front four have yet to put any kind of pressure on an opposing QB. Still seems like unless we send a blitz our guys aren't getting there. It is pre-season though and I won't rush to judgement or worry about it unitl the season starts. But, to answer the question in the original post, I have noticed JT getting knocked off the line pretty easy and I haven't seen much pressure applied to Favre, Edwards or Sorgi in the games when I was watching. From the Right end position Taylor does look a little awkward in his attack to the QB, hopefully by season's start we will see our guys harassing the qb's.

I'm going to reserve judgement on JT. His career stats warrant that much.
I'll second the notion that our front four is not getting any pressure and everytime I watch an interview with Blache it makes me miss Gregg Williams. Gregg was that leader, that general and Blache was a great leutenant (how do u spell leutinant?) any way Blache was a great Dline coach, but as a D-coordinator he's not really bringing anything new, he's just simplifying what Gregg did.
It kind of stinks that another team has Gregg Williams at the same position we had him at, your not suppossed to lose a coach without a promotion. For the record he didn't resign he was fired right? I think this year we are just counting on our defensive personnel instead of personnel plus scheme.
I think Erasmus James has a great opportunity to re-establish himself.

Well he is playing at around 240 lbs, which is very small for a defensive end. And in Miami he wasn't an every down DE the last few years. He played lb in the 3-4 and was moved around a lot to maximize his pass rushing skills. Hopefully our defensive staff is creative end to find ways to move him around and not just play him with his hand on the ground every down.
Suck and Luck
I haven't seen any pressure.
But in their defense,
I saw an interview with Carter, and he stated, that you have to play against a person a little while to learn their tendencies.
Or to find a flaw in they’re blocking. And you can't really do that in one series. You have to try different things to see what will get you past the block. Some guys are good at blocking the speed rusher, others are good a blocking the power rusher, and some are not good at blocking the spin move, some linemen can't move sideways quick, some can't block after a bitch slap. The list goes on and on with different ways to get around a block.
It makes sense to me. Considering 12 sacks a year is good, thats less than one a game. So there must be some truth in that, because if it was that easy to get a sack there would be much more.

not denying anything in the previous post but I would like to see our D-line perform the way the Giants did against Cleveland. It didn't seem to take several drives for their D-lineman to figure out the Browns o-lineman's tactics. And in SF, their d-line dominated Green Bay and had 4 sacks of Aaron Rodgers. Again, not rushing to any judgement here but I do notice that JT has been stood up at the line of scrimmage while being blocked one on one and with AC and JT supposed to be getting attention I haven't seen much of a push from our inside guys....YET. Hopefully it will be there once the season starts but I'd like to see it against Carolina.

Is this common for preseason? I'd kind of expect that in preseason games, the defense would usually be up to speed and looking sharp before the offense.
I've watched a few preseason games though this year, and most of the offenses have been moving the ball pretty easily on those early drives.

Our defense has been very vanilla in pre-season. If you don't expect our front 4 to get pressure on the QB with JT on one side and Carter on the other you're nuts. These 2 ends may provide us with the best pass rush since Charles Mann.
Can't believe that you guys can't see that.

Why are we nuts? For pointing out that SO far there hasn't been much of a pass rush. And since when does a vanilla defense have much to do with rushing the QB from the end position? Granted they aren't doing stunts or anything but a one on one rush is basic and so far nobody has created much of a pass rush and I have seen JT knocked off the ball quite a few times but that doesn't mean I all of the sudden think he can't play. Anyways, nobody wrote them off for the season or said they wouldn't provide a great pass rush, it's just a discussion about JT so far in pre-season and was taken a bit further into our pass rush as a whole. I agree with you that our defense should provide a good pass rush this season and that our team is not game planning and for the most part is running a base "vanilla" defense.

Good point, although the giants front 4 didn't get pressure either.
Everyone is talking about our front 4. If you pay attention to the giants highlights, they did not get pressure with 4 either. Anytime they got pressure or sacks, they were rushing 6-7 guys. Their LBs are like DEs. When they rush with the line, they are hard to block.
Marqus is great with his speed, but if he gets blocked, you don't see him get passed the block. I don't think Fletcher is much of a pass rusher.
What the giants have, would be equal to us putting in James and Jackson in at LB, and having them rush. And the way Jackson has done in preseason, that would be hard to block.

I firmly believe the Patriots are the antichrist.
