So what's the deal with Chris Samuels?
So why isn't this guy going to renegotiate his contract? The conversation with the Sports Reporters today (sportstalk 980) gave the indication that they thought the two later draft picks were a clear indication that Samuels is gonna be released June 1st.
Then some guy called in and said the recent skins day had his and Rod Gardner's $75 dollar Jerseys on sale for 10 bucks.
This would be a shame if its true. Any insights anyone?

Samuels is smart not to renegotiate his contract. He had a bad year and will be paid for the rest of his contract based on his performence that year. No he will rise his stock have a good year under Bugel and than get paid what he deserves. Its not being selfish its called being paid what you deserve. Right now he is not getting it becasue of his two bad years, but the Redskins deserve it for hiring a bad coach and setting him up (and the rest of the offensive line) for failure. He is under contract renegiotated it already he has no obligation to restructure his deal.

I agree with what you are saying but you can see the writing on the wall
Drafted 2 Tackles......Price of Jersey not dropping but plummetting.....all the rumors
he might be getting paid what he deserves somewhere else
if he's no already gone he'll be gone next years if he doesnt redo the deal
If that happens ....it maybe our loss

Honestly, I'm OK if Samuels can hold off a year to renegotiate. My concern is that the skins will cut him. That would really be poor tidings I think, as I agree he can be lots better than what he recently has shown.
Just reading the tea leaves, we get a left handed QB and two tackles in the draft has GOT to put pressure on Chris to renegotiate now. Seein his Jersey drop may just be one of those not-so-subtle messages...

The reason that his and Rod Gardner's jerseys were down so much were because they were overstocked. There were too many ordered so they had to get rid of them somehow. The jerseys don't mean a thing.

You cant look at jersey prices and have the translate to a players standing with the team. ITs highly doubtful that they are going to cut samuels since they would probaly go about handling it they same way the dealt with trotter. Plus buges has done nothing but rave about the possibilities of coaching samuels. This sounds like something similar to the draft day scenario of samules going to oakland. Its not going to happen.

Yeah Right!! Daniel Snyder dont give "S" away unless it means something.
I can name more than 10 people who jersys dropped before they were on the "C YA" bus. I own atleast five of them.

it would be a major cap hit if we did - his acclerated signing bonus would be 9.588 million. Divided by 2 after June 1st would be 4.794 million. Since the salary we would save would be 5.132 million this year... we would end up with only a net savings of a whopping 338K this year and still have to subtract 4.794 mil next year from our salary cap numbers.
I would see him being cut next year if ever. It would severely reduce the hit we would be taking.
Just my opinion

That sounds like a pretty good opinion. You've sold me. Now I don't think the skins will dump him this year. I'm guessing Buges will clean up any issue with the guy's form AND determination. Hopefully we will see the Chris Samuels we were expecting this year.

the problem with renegotiation is that it keeps tacking on, it doesn't often reduce. It will lengthen the contract due to the Skins wanting to reduce the signing bonus hit over several years, but it will be backloaded even worse than what we see here.
you think 8,9,10 million hits are bad now - if he renegotiates, his latter years hits will be monstrous.

to some, renegotiation means he'll take a cut in pay. To my mind, it is similar to congressional budgets - a cut is a smaller increase.
We'll pay him a signing bonus for him to make a smaller cap splash for the next few years, but in the latter part of the new contract, he could be making HUGE bucks... and thus be unaffordable. And worse - almost uncuttable.
If we pay him - oh - say 20 mil on a new signing bonus for say 5-6 years, it would be worse cap hits if we cut him in 4 years than if we cut him next year. Cutting him after Jun 1 next year would reduce the hit to 2.5 or 3 mil a year. If we renegotiate and cut him when his salary accelerates, we could be looking at 4-5 mil a year for two years.

they wont straightout cut samuels (at least this year) he has too much value as trade bait, I do hope we try and get a quality passrusher from a reciever needy team by giving away Gardner, also Gibbs is not going to be depend on 2 tackles drafted in the late rounds to be an immediate replacement for samuels,
