2nd String QB

Am I reading too much into all the attention Colt is getting so far and how little (or no) postivie comments we're hearing out of camp about Todd Collins?

Zorn apparently is switching the two of them tonight vs. the Bills, and Colt will replace Jason and Todd will be #3.

Has anyone ever heard Zorn say anything positive about Todd?

Pitts. needs a backup QB now that Batch is hurt, maybe we can make a trade to get another LB -- they play a 3-4 and have plenty of LBs. The one position I'm worried about on our team is depth at LB. Rocky is coming back form an injury, Marcus has been hurt a lot the past few years, Fletcher isn't young, Blades was hurt earlier in camp, Campbell is a ST player and I don't know anything about Sinclair, other than he can fight! All of that worries me.

The way I read it was that Zorn wanted to see how all the QBs do across the board, not just JC with starters, TC with 2nd, Colt with 3rd, ect. I think you're reading too far into it.

As for LB, I think we're good. Sinclair is coming along nicely from what I saw last week (I know it's only 1 week). In addition, that new guy FIncher was around the ball a lot last week, too. He was cut from the Lions, so he's not an immediate starter,but who knows how he's going to pan out.

Collins will be the number two QB becuase he knows the most about the game. I read a few articles and saw Colt talking about how the coaches go and ask collins questions about football. He will be the backup solely based on this and being on the sideline helping out Jason C. No matter how bad he looks he will be the main clip board carrier.

Everyone knows who will and who will not make the QB roster and in what order. You know it. I know it. And the American People know it. The only question is whether or not Devine will make the practice squad.

No way a rookie QB wins the back-up job, no matter how well he plays. Unless it's late in the season, and the season is lost.

I would be surprised if Colt becomes the backup. Only because he is a rookie. Then again these Qbs are all rookies considering this is the first year in Zorns system.

The only way Colt plays before Collins is if Zorn has a stroke or if JC's injured, it's late in the season and we're completely out of the playoff race as in dead and buried.

After a special perfomance on a national stage we would be fools not to see how Brennan does against better defenders. If we are sitting on a future franchise QB then we're better off knowing it. Collins lost my support in Seattle, no mobility and just didn't have a clutch victory in him.

I think Zorn just wants to see these guys in different game scenarios. Collins is the short term solution at back-up QB, but while just having drafted Colt, as well as being hand selected by Zorn, bets are that he is being looked at for the long term.

Brennan and the team will be better served by having Colt sit and learn this year. Whether he is relegated to the practice squad or is an active 3rd stringer, really makes no difference, he'll be holding a clip board regardless.

But there's no doubt Colt has been impressive thus far. And I'd like to add that it's not uncommon for rookies to be 2nd string back-ups in this league. The Packers just traded Favre, so they have Rogers starting, and 2 rookies in Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn as back-ups. Even though the Dolphins have Josh McCown on the roster, chances are John Beck could be the starter with rookie Chad Henne as the back-up. Baltimore has a similar situation at QB.

Unless some team suffers and injury at QB and makes a trade offer for Collins too good to pass on, he'll be the number 2 this year. But it's extremely smart coaching on Zorn's behalf, and advantageous to say the least, to get a good look at Brennan and evaluate where you stand with him. Anything could happen and you have to prepare for the worst. I think it goes without saying, Zorn has been the most impressive so far.

We need as many qbs as possible. Giving up a veteran or a guy that could turn into a solid young backup qb would be a mistake

So you're holding one playoff game against Collins, who's a backup, after he got us into the playoffs against real players when it counted, but you're pushing Brennon based on one performance against the guys who REPLACED the first line of scrubs just because it was on national television? Perspective, can I buy a perspective?

The bottom line is that Collins is a backup, not a starter. He did pretty well for a backup. But if JC goes out we're in trouble. There has been NOTHING said about Colt from the coaches that indicates he's more then a project. If we go to Collins we are in trouble but we have a chance, like last year. If we go to Colt this year we're dead, buried, done.

I don't think there is any doubt in my mind, come 9/4 that Collins is the backup. He is the veteran and played well last year. I think elevating him today is to just see him play against a high caliber players, rather than 3rd and 4th stringers, many of which will not make the Colts.

Everyone, especially Zorn has said repeatedly that Colt is still a work in progress. I think tonight's assignment is just part of that progress.

Having watched Colt his entire career at UH I would have to tell you that he is an exciting player to watch. What he lacks in technique he brings in energy and accuracy, and first and foremost he is a winner. He is darn mobile and has the accuracy to be a very good quarterback in this league. He has quite a bit of maturing to do as a QB but his mobility will eventually surplant Collins on the depth chart. Collings only has a few years left..but in this day in age who knows?

I"m a big fan of Collins. I was surprised at how well he played down the stretch last year and he deserves the 2nd string job.

As for the swtiching the quarterback rotation... that is normal. Coaches want to see the difference in tempo in the game with different QB's. It also gives you more options with Colt and his mobility early in the game.

Can't wait to watch the game.

In the article on Redskins.com, Zorn is quoted as saying to not read anything into the switch of rotation of the quarterbacks. He just wants to see them all under certain situations and the best way to do that is to rotate them around.

While I might be okay with trading Collins, I never said I wanted a rookie QB as our backup. I'd propose getting another vet for the backup job. Maybe someone who has played in the west coast offense before and would be okay as the backup (not Garcia for example).

The last thing we need is to rely on a rookie QB if Jason gets hurt again. If we had to do that our playoff hopes are gone!

Agreed and I think Zorn feels that way as well. I think the moving CB up tonight is simply a test against a bit harder competition, thats all.

There´s no way in hell the team will trade Collins somewhere this season. Pitt has just signed Byron Leftwich, so they have their Qb´s set.

Besides, one of the first offseason moves was re-signing Collins, since he would become a FA. It would be highly ilogical to trade a guy you signed just a couple of months ago.

You had me until here. There's no way you keep someone on the roster that you have no intention under any circumstances to play... that's what the PS is for. I think it both went down (God I hope not), Colt will be in there.

If he's on the 53 man roster, then he's got a chance to play. That's what the PS would be for....

I'll tell you what, Collins better step it up. Obviously Zorn has seen more from him in practice, but if Collins continues to struggles... I don't know...I'm not real impressed with Collins right now. He's been the sore spot of the entire offense tonight so far.
