Pissed off about native DC Cowboys fans!

Post by MossIsBoss88 »

I know it's a very common sight to see cowboys fans around DC for some reason, but I was at the Nats game tonight sporting my (sean) taylor jersey and saw a dude decked out in cowboys stuff. He had an Emmitt Smith jersey and a cowboys bucket hat. I went up to him and asked him what he was doing at the game, and he said to me: "DC stands for Dallas Cowboys!". I replied "yeah, thats what they say NOW."

Now, I'm only 20 years old, but I heard that if you mentioned the cowboys to ANYONE in DC during the dynasty years they would laugh at you? When did DC experience this extreme cowboys fan boost where every other person is a cowboys fan? It seems like DC has the biggest cowboys fan base outside of Texas.
There are only two teams I root for in the NFL. The Skins, and whoever is playing Dallas.

It's okay that we drafted a Landry. After this season, the crygirls will have a new association with that name.

same reasoning, why did we see emo kids shopping at hot topic in high school?

some people decide that they're so hip that they won't conform with the redskins fan base and they become cowboys fans as a statement.

either that or they're just idiots.

I agree. When I lived in the DC area I knew a lot of people who'd relocated there who hated the Skins because the Skins were SO covered they got sick of them. That's different though then becoming a fan of our enemy, which is just pettiness and a pathetic grab for attention.

I don't know about worst people in the WORLD, but I do mean mug (glare) at each and every one of them that I see.

Interestingly, Michael Beasley is from the area, a Nationals fan, but is a Cowboys fan. Makes it harder for me to support him as a Heat fan when he continuously professes his love.

Interestingly, I live in Northwest Arkansas, much closer to Dallas than DC, and almost nobody likes the Cowboys down here. I go to DC and every other person it seems like sometimes is a Cowboys fan.

Anyone know if it's the same way in Dallas? A lot of Skins fans there?

Yeah, when I found that out I was really disappointed. How can you represent your hometown when you support their sworn enemy? I'm surprised that there aren't many cowboys fans in arkansas (obviously not a bad thing)... who do they usually root for?

Used to be a Cardinals(Don't ask, I don't know.)fan back in the late nineties when I couldn't care less about pro football and I started turning into a Redskins fans in the early millenium. Probably the first year I truly started following the Redskins was sadly near the end of Spurrier's first year. Because of Jerry Jones(Big time Arkansas booster.), but as I started liking pro football, I just hated Dave Campo which drove me to the Redskins.

Luckily, I had family move to DC in 2003 and since then I have been able to get awesome tickets twice(Club section once and 11th row on the 45 yard line once)for free.

well, you still can't call yourself 'fairweather' because we haven't done jack since 91. the 3 playoff appearances are nice, and more playoff wins than the pukes since the late 90's are good, but they have still done better with overall success since our last big show. our time is coming. i'm hoping. these are trying times.

here in nc, most old skins fans converted when the pussycats arrived on the scene. even the panthers have seen a superbowl since the last time the redskins have. if the old school skins fans didn't convert at first, most did around that time. but you gotta stay strong. i see puke jerseys and stickers everywhere. way more than skins stuff, even though we are only 4 hours from DC. i stand pat. the puke fans are fairweather fans. i see more 'romo' fans than i do actual puke fans. not to take anything away from romo, he has that 'it' that qb's need, but it will pass. our day is coming. just don't jump ship and then want back on when it does happen.

if snyder would just hire an actual GM, and then put forth the resources this team has, we might have something to cheer about. just don't give up. the puke fans will when the skins start and keep on winning. :)

I just do not see how a guy born and bred in D.C. or Virgina could be a Cowboys fan.

Another thing that makes me wanna puke is bandwagon Puke fans. Now I know why we call the cowboys pukes. It is because everytime I think about the fans and how they act they make me wanna puke. LOL I never got it until now.

The Bandwagon cowboy fans, only when they are winning u see jerseys everywhere. Where are they when the teams losing. Now there are some true cowboys fans mostly in Texas. The ones in Cali I give them a test. I ask them to name three players from the 1992 Cowboys team. Or I will ask them what position did Roger STaubach play? Most of the time they say who?

For me to be a true fan means sticking with your team when they are down and when times are good. Not just when they are winnning. I have never met a bandwagon Redskin fan. Or a poser Redskin fan. It just does not happen.

Exactly. I have no faith in this front office. I mean, with the Heat, there was a constant goal. Even in the middle of the season when we traded Shaq and were still on pace to have the worst team in Miami Heat history, I sure as hell knew we'd be a playoff contender this year and might even make it the second round. The stability of that organization is excellent and the goal is constantly built towards. The Heat went from a win now now mode with Shaq to a build for the future mode seamlessly in the middle of the season with no snags.

With the Redskins, we MAKE the playoffs, and I am sitting here expecting a playoff push and a first round exit. I'll admit, the core we have here, IMO, is very good, but I don't know if we'll build on it. The Redskins have a very fragile organization and many people question whether we're in win now mode or are we trying to build for the future? The goal isn't there.

Oh man, welcome to my world. I still catch a gogo band now and then and when I see those cowpunk fans, I get really aggravated. When I see some cowpunk paraphernilia while I'm driving, I stick my middle finger up at them out my window. There's a cowpunk fan that lives down the street from me with a whole bunch of cowpunk stuff on his car, he'll get his eggs soon courtesy of the youngyins in the neighborhood.

Cowboy fans are quick to come out of the woodwork when their team is winning, but as soon as they are losing they say the saem ol' thing;

"I never even really watch football anymore, I just liked them back when they had (insert Superbowl-ring wearing player here)"

It's not just a few bandwagon fans, it seems like their entire fan-base is bandwagon.
