I am tired of hearing him cry that we didn't take him and don't think anyone should regret the decision made. Defense wins Championships!!! and we needed the upgrade on defense. He will regret saying that he will make us pay for not taking him. As a rookie the last thing you want to do is give a team a reason to look for you on the field. Less than 24 hours after the Cleveland Browns selected their marquee client from the 2004 draft, Kellen Winslow, II, the Poston brothers already are puffing their chests and preparing for contentious negotiations with the Browns.



According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Kevin Poston said on Saturday that he'll bargain with the Browns as if Winslow had been taken at any spot among the top six players.



"This was the most intriguing draft I've been around because you had six players who could've gone No. 1 overall," Poston said. "If the Jets had the No. 1 pick, they would've picked Kellen. A lot of teams had him No. 1 on their board."



In contrast, Winslow said he'd be happy with a fair raise over what the sixth overall pick received in 2003. "The way I see it, give me the sixth-pick money," Winslow said. "Look at last year's pick and I'm in camp. That's the way I see it."



Later, Poston sounded a different tune. "Kellen could easily be the LeBron James of the Browns," Poston said. "He's that talented. When you negotiate with top-value guys, to come up with that value is not easy."



Will Poston say that he can get Winslow to training camp on time? "No, I can't. You try to. It takes two to dance. You have to look at who the sixth pick was, who his agent was and other variables. It's not in a vacuum like that.



"Kellen is the top-ranked tight end ever to come out of college," Poston said. "It's in everyone's best interest to get him in on time, but if he gets in on time and doesn't have true value, what's the purpose?"



Poston also dismissed suggestions (which, by the way, originated right here) that the Redskins passed on Winslow at No. 5 because he is represented by the Postons -- who currently are involved in a $6.5 million stare-down with the 'Skins involving the contract of linebacker LaVar Arrington.



"I talked to coach [Joe] Gibbs. Believe me, he's not going to sleep well tonight. Kellen Winslow is the best tight end he's seen in 27 years of football and he was No. 1 on a lot of people's boards."



Gibbs might not have slept well last night, but we have a feeling that Browns coach Butch Davis will be staring at the ceiling on more than a few occasions as July becomes August -- and as Winslow isn't in camp.

I'll take a guy like ey, with the 81st pick, any day. Smart, football smart, has played in a system where he moves from TE to H-back to FB. He blocks, plays special teams (well!), catches everything thrown his way. We don't need a TE who can break 70 yard TD runs, we need a guy who keeps his mouth shut, his head on a swivel and gets us those 3rd down and 10 conversions.

That is quite enough, if Winslow had gone to the Cowboys they would be a stone cold lock to win the NFC East. We should thank God that he didn't somehow end up going to Dallas

That just looks like further evidence that the Poston's are on crack. I'd like to see a spreadsheet put together to see what agents have the highest percentage of holdout for their clients over the past ten years or so. I'd venture to say the Poston's are probably at the top of the list, the way they've worked with Orlando Pace alone would shoot them bamas up to the top (Pace has held out twice that I can think of, and I ain't a Rams fan so I haven't been paying attention...)

Are you now saying because the Browns have Winslow they are going to win their division?? That statement is crazy. We should all know that one or two players do not make the team win by now. Winslow was obviously not promising enough for Gibbs to pick him, regardless of your opinion on the issue. So we have a right to discuss him. Especially if he continues to say bad things about our team and coach!

NikiH- You make it sound like it was an easy choice for Gibbs to take Taylor over Winslow! He milled on this for weeks and weeks and went around asking everyone he could find for advice on what to do. Eventually he decided that defense was more important... this does not mean Taylor was an obviously better selection, a LOT of thought went into it.

I do not expect the Browns to be instant contenders now, but had the COWBOYS, a 10 win team with good defense had gotten him I wouldn't have held out much hope for us. Luckily they did not.

See I've never doubted his ability Skinsfan55, I just think a player is an entire package and his attitude is a big factor in that package. I am thankful we didn't draft him because I cannot imagine hearing 2 days after the draft that he isn't going to be in camp. That would not make me a fan of his Redskin or not. And I don't know how Gibbs made this decision but because of his history I trust his decision making. The other factor in this is that we got a good player. Like 74 said we have a team player. That's what is important to me.

I for one love Patrick Ramsey's attitude, but he did the same thing it SEEMS Kellen Winslow is going to do. He hasn't even held out yet!

Winslow is understandably upset that he wasn't drafted by the Redskins, a team who he felt (be it true or not) said would select him. Did you see that NFL draft day hat commercial? He was smiling from ear to ear pretty much wearing that Redskins hat the whole time, and he said the name Redskins probably 4 or 5 times during it...

I would immagine he feels very hurt about all of this, in his opinion he thinks that the Redskins messed up the greatest day of his life. That's not an easy thing to forgive... all this over a miscommunication

I think we should feel pretty bad for Winslow, I mean, if any one of us thought the Redskins had plans to draft/sign us and then it looked like they left us at the altar then we would be upset, and understandably so.

That said, I am happy with the way things turned out. I got one thing to cheer about on draft day, and that was the drafting of Chris ey.

55 I am sure gibbs did not promise him he would be a redskin that is not gibbs style especially with the relationship with his father. I am sure he will get over it when he gets his 7 to 8 million signing bonus. I am just tired of talking about him he is not on the team, and he ran his mouth like a little punk. Whatever. I know two Cowboy fanatics that were wanting us to get Winslow over Taylor. They were not happy when the commisioner announced us drafting Sean Taylor.
