The Official Injury Thread

Post by spudstr04 »

I just thought I'd get it started and we could condense all of these different injuries into one thread. So...

Philip Daniels done for the season with Ligament damage

Alex Buzbee done for season with Achilles damage

Fred Smoot injures ankle, don't know how hurt yet.

Looks like we are about to trade our next year's draft for Jason Taylor and we might look at Lito Sheppard. Anybody know of other trade targets?

A Redskins official denied the team is pursuing Jason Taylor, but expect a strong push to be made this week

http://www.rotoworld.com

From John Clayton saying it's pretty much a done deal, to Redskins saying they have to need. I really wouldn't mind seeing Jason Taylor in burgundy and gold. If he can manage anywhere from 8-12 sacks, he'd be way ahead of the others. Andre Carter could see his sack numbers climb if Taylor is being double-teamed as well. I think it's a safe move if its for a 2nd rounder.

Crazy day one. Wouldn't have taken a thousand to one bet two ends would go down for the year on D-Line.

FO has to do something. Long way to go and Andre Carter,Chris Wilson, and Demtric Evans as your only healthy defebsive ends is not going to fly for the rest of camp.

That's what JLC is reporting everywhere else says "waiting on X-rays"

Defensive tackle Anthony Montgomery broke a bone in his right hand during Saturday's intra-squad scrimmage at Redskins Park.
It's uncertain how long Montgomery will be sidelined due to the injury.

He is expected to be fitted for a cast that covers his entire hand. In time, he could be cleared to play with the protective cast.

"What we'll do is we'll let him rest it and get the swelling out of it," Zorn said. "And then we'll probably put him in one of those casts that look like a boxing glove."

Asked how long Montgomery will be sidelined, Zorn replied: "Depends on his body how his body heals."

Eric Shelton suffered a stinger in yesterday's scrimmage, so he was held out of practice today. That brought the number of guys who didn't participate to 10, and that's not including the two defensive ends who were lost for the season on Day 1 or the two guys who were injured and then subsequently cut. It has been a rough first eight days for this team.

Zorn said he does not expect any of the long list of injured guys - Devin Thomas, Malcolm Kelly, LaRon Landry, Erasmus James, Carlos Rogers, Chris Wilson, Rian Wallace, Kareem Moore, Anthony Montgomery or Anthony Mix - to be back for Monday's practices.

Shelton has a history of getting injured in the NFL. If he can ever get & stay healthy, he could be 1 heck of a pickup.

Agreed. But RBs with injury histories are always sketchy...especially ones who get injured without having carried the ball in the NFL...

UPDATE:

Blades to Have Knee Surgery
Linebacker H.B. Blades, who sprained his left knee in this morning's practice, will undergo arthroscopic surgery this week, according to a Redskins source with knowledge of the situation. The exact nature of the injury is not certain, but the source expects Blades to be out at least two-to-three weeks, returning toward the end of preseason.

The loss of Blades, however briefly, leaves the team thin at linebacker. Blades and Khary Campbell are competing to back up London Fletcher at middle linebacker, essentially the defense's quarterback. Blades is also a special-teams standout. With Washington's starting linebackers no longer performing much special teams duty, the Redskins are looking for capable backups who can also excel on special teams.

Blades will be the fifth Redskin to have surgery since camp began eight days ago. He joins Phillip Daniels, Alex Buzbee, Anthony Montgomery and Rian Wallace

The only other new injury was to running back Eric Shelton, who had been bothered by a shoulder stinger. He was being evaluated for what may be a neck injury.

Terrible news. Arthroscopic knee surgery is something very delicate to any kind of LB. It severly limits his mobility because of the swelling.

SAFETY MATTERS FOR SPRINGS

The Redskins' defensive backfield got some welcome news when Stuart Schweigert and sixth-round draft pick Kareem Moore took part in Tuesday's practices.
That means Shawn Springs can return to playing cornerback. He had moved to safety this training camp when Schweigert, Moore and LaRon Landry went down with injuries.

Will Springs ever go back to safety?

"Depends on what we need," Greg Blache said. "Right now we're short on [safeties]. So you do what you have to do. Shawn Springs is capable of playing safety. If we have a game to play, and we had a safety go down, Shawn would go in and play safety.

"He's still our starting left cornerback. If a need presents itself, we're preparing ourselves."

All training camp so far, Carlos Rogers had bugged the Redskins' athletic trainers to let him increase his practice workload.
He got his wish on Tuesday morning.

Rogers participated in the full practice, getting work in individual drills and competing in 7-on-7 action.

He is coming back from a knee ligament injury that cost him the last nine games of last season.

"It felt pretty good," Rogers said. "I thought I was going to be tired, but actually I'm in better shape than I thought. My knee isn't bothering me. No swelling."

Earlier this offseason, Rogers had targeted the Redskins' regular season opener on Sept. 4 for his return.

Now he thinks he could be available for one or two preseason games.

Even though Rogers appears to be ahead of schedule with his rehab, the team is still cautious with his injury.

"Right now he is just practicing and they're very limited reps," head coach Jim Zorn said. "He is in the mix, but I wouldn't want to see him in a game yet."

Added Rogers: "We're going to see how my knee responds to this. We don't want to push it. They're going to throw me into practice and see how it responds."

From the same site as above:

-- SCHWEIGERT COMPETING
Stuart Schweigert returned to practice on Tuesday after missing a couple of days due to a mild calf strain.

It's important for Schweigert to make an impression, because it appears he does not have a roster spot locked down.

Asked about competition between Reed Doughty and Schweigert, defensive coordinator Greg Blache said: "Reed's our safety. Stuart has to earn a roster spot on this football team."

That's fine with Schweigert.

"Competition is what this league is based on," he said. "Nothing is given to you in this league. You have to work for it in every practice. It's just something you have to take one drill at a time."

Schweigert joined the Redskins in the offseason after four seasons with the Oakland Raiders.

I fully expect Stu to make the team, but it really looks like Reed will start at SS. Makes me happy :)

HB Blades underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee today and will be out four weeks, give or take, Zorn said.
